  • Eco Diesel Water Pump
    In this video I have a 1/2 ton Ram Pick Up with a 3.0 Eco Diesel that has a leaking water pump. Unfortunately this water pump does not look straight forward at all as you can barely see it. I will walk you through this repair, explain how to remove and replace as well as all the torque specs for the job. There is a part that needs to be replaced when removed and I will show you that and explain why. Let's get going so we can get this coolant leak fixed.

      Thank you very much I appreciate that. I started my channel because there were no videos on Eco Diesels. Now there are some but most suck to be honest. Thank you for watching.

    Lately I’ve been doing quite a bit of mechanical work along with the collision work. I’ve learned quite a bit since you began posting videos. I try to be methodical like you but most of all I try to be as thorough as possible so I don’t wind up doing the repair twice. I lay things out instead of just piling things up. I definitely improved since you started and find myself doing more in depth jobs that I used to farm out. Thanks Tone.

    Turbo line seems to be the bigger leak source. How were you able to determine it was the water pump?

      Pressure tested after some disassembly. It was a pain. Within a week I had 2 of these engines with leaking water pumps. Same fleet company. Thanks for watching

    I was pulling a mountain and the check engine light came on and it said low oil pressure and the motor shut off. The coolant was at 280temp but the oil was only at 180. There was coolant coming around the gasket at the water pump. Do you know what would be the problem? The truck also won’t start back up. It only makes one click and stops.

    • @NutsandBoltswithTone
      @NutsandBoltswithTone  7 місяців тому

      Well sounds like the motor seized up. I had one do something very similar. What you need to do is try to turn over the engine by hand with a ratchet on the crank. If you cannot turn it then either the motor seized up or there is something in one of the cylinders or more not allowing engine to turn over. Let me know what you find on instagram. Thank you for watching.

    removing AC lines... Does that mean I will have to mess with recover, vacuum and recharge?

    • @NutsandBoltswithTone
      @NutsandBoltswithTone  11 місяців тому

      Yes you will need an ac machine to perform those. Also all the ones I have done the ac was 1234yf which is newer Freon and more expensive then R1234a. Thanks for watching

    • @ericb.4914

      It is completely "un-necessary" to disconnect or move the AC lines. plenty of space to remove the pump. The fuel line does need to be removed but can be re-used. The trick is to not overtighten.

      I did the water pump on my 2015 Outdoorsman ecodiesel a year ago. You do not need to evacuate the
      A/C at all. There's plenty of room to remove the water pump with the
      A/C lines in place. I didn't replace the HPFP line either and it doesn't leak. (It'll get replaced under the HPFP recall for free anyway). Just make sure you replace the crossover tube and all O-rings, (4 O-rings I think if you buy the new crossover tube which comes with new ones). Also make sure you lubricate the O-rings especially the coolant tube at the back of the water pump. The whole job took a little over 2 hours.

    I unfortunately bought one of these trucks at 88k miles, had the vb1 recall and the dealer put lipstick on the pig and i got it for 21K, it has been in the shop about 10 times under the egr warranty for all kinds of items, now at 125K miles the water pump and the 3 way valve are leaking, the dealer wants $3200.00 to replace them. This truck is the biggest piece of shit I've ever owned. I had an 05 duramax with 350k miles on it , it ran well, but the body and frame rusted out from the crap they put on the roads in the winter here in CT. Going to try to find a rustfree 02 to 06 chevy/gmc 1500 with a 5.3 or a 6.0 or a 2500 with a duramax... good ridance RAM... they should make the engineers who design this actually work on the engine, maybe they would not be so f....up

      @@aroth1211 got to the Ram website and go to recalls, put your VIN number in and check and see if the vb1 recall was done on the truck... if so... look up the recall and it will show you that the truck has a 4 year warranty up to 120000 mile from the date of in service, (when the truck was origianlly sold when new) and it also has a 48 month 48,000 mile warranty from when the recall was done... and it includes a ton of parts and labor... list of those are in the recall paperwork
