Well....before watching your tutorial I was just going to make a V-stitch scarf BUT after now seeing the BEST V-stitch Evvvver tutorial on UA-cam!! YOURS!!! I’m now going to make a scarf, a cowl and a blanket! Thank you so much for simplifying things and for taking your time with us!!!
I'm pretty sure that patterns are written JUST to confuse new people...lol! Tutorials like this are crucial for novices like myself to learn this stuff. It just doesn't always make sense when it's written. So thank you! I think I got it after searching damn patterns and browsing photo tutorials. Sometimes you just need to see it done and the light goes off..."OMG this is SOOO easy!" ;) Thanks again!
Thank you so very much for this easy-to-follow lesson. I have used this stitch in a baby jacket and a matching blanket. Now I am going to use it on a pretty little baby girl's dress as well. Just love the way garments "grow" so fast with this stitch. Best wishes, Susan
I just came for a refresher look at the V stitch....have not used this stitch in awhile but it is one of my absolute favorite stitches....I am going to make a baby blanket for one of the housekeepers here at my facility and I know it will be a lovely blanket because of this stitch....thanks again for the refresher.....
Thank you for helping me review this stitch! I have a friend that’s having ‘twin girls, some time around the end of May!! So now I have two baby blankets to make. I needed something super easy and this way it won’t be too hot on the babies!! Thank you again, NORMA COLLINS FROM TEXAS
I spent hours looking for a decent v stitch pattern. All I wanted was a v stitch poncho type top, something that i could make in panels. This video tutorial was exactly what i needed. Thank you!
I love your videos. I'm not great at following a written pattern so your videos are right up my alley. Down to earth and straight forward. Thank you so much Gwen in Louisiana.
Thank you so much!!! I have never been able to follow directions on patterns. It's just too overwhelming. I stopped crocheting for many years. This was so easy to follow, thank you! I'm starting to love it again!
So easy! Love the chart. I am making 12" squares which will become a blanket to be donated to the Seafarer's Mission. I am new to crocheting. I appreciated the finger blocking tip. That is so much better than what I have been doing.
Thank you so much for the tutorial. My daughter requested a shawl for her to wear in church. She found a pretty yarn that came with a pattern. The pattern called for a V-stitch, so I needed to see how to work that stitch. Thank you for your help!
This is wonderful, thank you. I learnt more in a few minutes by watching this, than I have done browsing over hundreds of confusing written patterns. Thanks again x
Again my thanks Beth for your clear & easy to follow videos. Completed my 1st rectangular shawl using the V-stitch. Finished size 18" X 65" perfect fit for my elderly mom & she liked it.
Thank you so much! Your instructions were spot on and very easy to follow. I just found out that two of my nieces are expecting baby girls within 3 weeks of each other so I am making them each baby blankets using your instructions. Thank you!!!
This will be my next project as I've never done a v stitch. Probably will do a hat and a scarf with the loopy fringe you recently taught. I LOVE simply soft to work with but have yet to make anything for me with it so this can be my Christmas present from me to me thanks for your great tutorials!!
I am very new to crochet and just wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed this video. It is a cold wet day in UK today so will be teaching myself v stitch!!! Love your channel!!
This is so much easier to understand than the pattern I was trying to follow!! I've been trying to figure it out for about a week. I'm making a super thick throw for my dad using 4 strands at a time of different color yarn. Thank you!!
My great grandmother made a blanket with this stitch (it was a treasure growing up) and I am going to attempt to make a blanket with this stitch like she did! Thanks for the video!
I am making a dish cloth with mine because i like light weight dish cloths, Those bulky ones bothers my hands and i really don't usually have big messes to clean up. I want to thank you for this and have completed 3 for myself and now i will go try one after i have my lunch. Thank you again i really enjoyed this and i can whip these up in an instant. Thank you thank you and thank you. Your a Peach,
@Bethintx1 your video on the V stitch was the best because you actually started from the begginning. I am going to try and make a blanket with this stitch for my niece. This stitch was easier than I thought. Thank you for doing this video.
Thank you SO much for this! It was extremely helpful and well explained. I'm a beginner, starting on a more complicated pattern than I'm use to. I will add a pic when I'm done.
Your instructions are easy to understand and in your video your fingers do not block what you are doing. In so many other's videos their hand and fingers get in the way which means that I cannot see the beginning of their work and the last stitches. Thank you.
I've used this stitch to make afghans and it's been a while. thanks for you the easy to follow tutorial which helped refresh my memory ! making another afghan for a gift.
beth, this v-stitch is a new stitch for me; I'm a novice crocheter but began a scarf following your instructions for this v-stitch and it actually is going pretty fast
Thank you! Just learning and am so thankful for UA-cam tutorials. What did we ever do before UA-cam? Trying to make a prayer shawl. I have elderly friends who are shut in because of covid and I wanted to share some love.
Great simple explanation and demonstration! Thank you 😊 I’m working on my baby’s newborn hat & the pattern called for V stitches in the chain one space of the crochet fans I stitched 😍 I had no idea how to do these but now I do thanks to your video.
Thank you so much for the easy to see, understand and follow video. I am making a prayer shawl. I saw this stitch in a book, and was having no luck teaching it to myself from the book. Thank you very much.
Thank you so much!!! I'm a beginner and your explanations and visual teaching are making things so much easier for me! Patterns are so confusing and I've always been a show me kind of girl anyway :)
Thank you for demonstrating this stitch. I am a member of Rush's Prayer Shawl group, and am looking for easy stitches to make these shawls for folks in end of life care.
@debbie8188 In this case the +3 is the turning chain. I forms the first double crochet. Sometimes it counts as spaces and stitches. It depends on the pattern. Here is what it Usually stands for (but not always) +1= sc, +2=hdc or sc & ch 1, +3= dc or hdc & chain 1 or sc & ch 2.
You would make it the same way, but if you want the items to scale wider as well as taller, then skip one more chain per V on the foundation row (adding one more per multiple) and chain 2 in each V.
Hello, Just wanted to tell you I love your videos. I havent made anything for years and you got me started again. I love this V stich. My daughter has never done it and now she is teaching herself with your videos. As for what I am going to make......not sure. I want to make a baby blanket for the new baby my nephew and his wife are having in May. Thank You again.
thanks for the instructions. I made a 4"X60" scarf using your v-stitch video tips and gave it as gift to my sister. I just began making a shawl using multiples of 13 st. +3. The shawl will measure 24" X 66" and will be along the line of a prayer shawl for my elderly mom. The most difficult is starting the chain stitches ex. for the shawl, I made 81 chain stitches to get a shawl width of 24 in.-chain stitches have tendency to curl or turn sideways, so you have to be alert to this.
I love that you showed and explained how to read this pattern! I am self teaching via youtube and there are so many things I want to make but since I can't read a pattern it limits my ability, that you for teaching!
Great instructions!! I'm new to crochet. Watching and learning all I can! I'm planning on making a baby blanket for a friend's granddaughter that's on the way. Thanks again!
I will be learning this pattern for a blanket I’m gifting to my 6year old niece for Christmas this year. I’m pretty much a beginner but this very easy and you explained it very well thank you !
Thank your for showing me V Stitch I plan to make a knee rug using fluffy wool. I think it will be ideal as the open areas will be filled with the strands of fluff. I am also planning to use three different colours.
I used this stitch for a light jacket. Made sleeves in a sweater where the back and front were garter st. also, wide bands of that st. in top of that garter front and back panels . Came out beautiful.
I’m making a scarf for my sister in law! I needed a stitch that had a good drape and good breathability since I’m using such a fuzzy chunky yarn. Thank you!
Thanks for this video. I'd worked this pattern once for a baby blanket but did not know what the multiples was to re-do the pattern in a different size. I'd made the blanket from a pattern and am not great at figuring out the multiples (math-challenged). I'll be making a scarf. I found this is a great stitch for fuzzy/hairy yarns since the "v" is worked in a larger space (as opposed to a chain/loop). Thanks again - much appreciated!
Thanks for helping me get started on this simple stitch. I plan to make a baby blanket for a church project and I needed something pretty and quick. This really fit the bill.
I tell you in the video. It is a multiple of 13 plus three. The number of chains depends on the size you want, the weight of your yarn and the size of your hook. To crochet multiples, count your chains 1-13 until it is the width you want. Then chain 3 more.
Lovely.....I didnt think it was that simple.....actually seeing it being done by you was really great....i am going to try it now and was thinking of crocheting a baby blanky for my grandson (going to be born in February!). Thanks a lot.
Am experimenting with hemp for placemats. The twine I got was too heavy. I think I'll use the V stitch for my 1st attempt. Then move on to filet design ( in my dreams) Your tutorial was relaxingly. Clear, thank u! Happy knotting!a
This was very handy...I have a pattern for a tree skirt for my Christmas tree and it has some v stitches in it. The pattern explains how to do it, but I needed a visual. Thanks!
Thank you!!! I was looking for a new stitch to use to make an afghan with thick yarn. The V stitch is perfect. I learn only by watching and your video was wonderful. Thanks again!!
I am going to make a light scarf for my sister-in-law, using this kinda shimmery yarn I found on Amazon. Berroco Captiva, color is Tidepool. I think because it's thin the V stitches will really show up well and be so pretty! Thanks for your video!
This tutorial is fabulous. Thank you so much for sharing! I've been trying to figure out this stitch from written patterns, and just had that 'Oh!' moment where it finally clicked into place. I'm still learning to crochet, but would like to make a scarf with this stitch.
Thank you for a very clear and detailed video. I learned a lot. I want to use the v stitch for a border to my granny square afghan. Not ready for it, yet, as I am blocking the squares and connecting right now.
@stephanie060905 Make your chain the length you want your throw to be wide, making sure you have a multiple of 13. add 3 more chains for the turning chain. The number depends on your agauge, the weight of the yarn and the size of your hook.
What an excellent and logical explanation of this stitch! Thank you very much! I am so appreciative of videos like this as it is difficult to find this type of education elsewhere especially at my old age.
I was looking for a nice pattern for a scarf for my son and found it here! I love your easy to understand and follow instructions! Getting to work right now! TY:)
Thank you! I was so confused on the pattern as I'm very novice. I am finishing my first scarf with just a basic double crochet and wanted something faster and looser so this is perfect! thank you for making it easy to understand.
Great video. I'm a lefty just learning and found you easy to follow. I'm making a baby blanket that alternates between shell stitch and V-stitch. Unfortunately my teacher missed last day of school. God bless her though. She's a righty attempting to teach 2lefties (:
Thank you for this lovely clear instruction. I've been using a bamboo yarn and have not been able to find any knitted or crochet patterns that I think would look right. I think this one will be perfect. I love the feel of the bamboo yarn but working with it is driving me around the bend!
I'm working through a booklet that teaches you different stitches for each wash cloth. There are 24, this is only my 2nd one - I have a long way to go. Your video was clear and very helpful Thank you
Thank you so much for your easy to follow video! I have a really hard time understanding pattern directions and diagrams, so you've helped me so much! I am making a dishcloth set for my daughter for Christmas. I really hope she likes it. Merry Christmas to you!
You are such a great teacher! Thank you! I plan to use the V stitch to make a blanket. But I'll practice the technique on a roomy cowl first using 2/3 strands of worsted weight ;)
First pair of fingerless wristwarmers, actually needs a crocodile stitch, which seems to use a V Stitch as the base. Your video was very helpful. THANKS
Thank you very much for the great video! I am making a loose, lacy long vest with the V stitch you taught me. I am beginning in the center of the back and working outward in circles so it is almost like a spider's web!
Thank you for solving my ??? after i read this pattern for a BB blanket... i understand the concept but just didnt seem to get it right on the yarn .... plus it took me like the 4th try with you that i finally got to the same pace and understood the V stitch.. It came out very loose and all.. i think i just used the wrong hook....
Thank you sooo much for this video!! I have been crochetting for a while now, but i just go with the basic stitches and then my mom recently learned the shell stitch (which she is using for her first grandbaby blanket) and i already made my baby blanket, but i thought since it was soo plain i wanted to do something else, and this is perfect!! thank you soooo much!!!!!
I found it! The way it is written, I think you should (make a V in the next stitch) twice. If they wanted it the other way, they would have written make 2 v's in the next stitch. I am working out the gauge swatch to double check.
So helpful! I was following a scarf patten in a book but it was telling me to do 2 chs between the dbls instead of 1 ch. I knew it wasn't going to come out right because it looked nothing like their picture. Then I found your video. So far it looks great!
I’m trying to find a stitch that won’t eat up too much yarn for a blanket. I didn’t want to make another granny square Afghan without trying something new and this seems perfect! It looks intricate without being too delicate or difficult. I hope it looks okay with my variegated yarn
Your tutorial was helpful in helping me to learn the v-stitch. I am attempting to make texting mitts from a pattern in a book, with one minor variation; the pattern starts with a foundation singke crochet as the first round then a single crochet, chain 2 single crochet. I can see the v-stitch with the single crochet, it is smalker though. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
brilliant, thankyou, i am making a pram blanket for my 5 week old granddaughter, cant wait to see what it looks like :) dont suppose you have a tutorial for a nice edging for it when it is finished? x
I'm going to make a baby blanket with this stitch. I have several balls of Lion Brand Casey parfait spots yarn. This looks like it will go quickly! Thanks for the video, so easy to follow.
thanks Beth for this video; I've been following you on youtube and have learned from all of your basic vids how to sc, hdc, dc, trc and completed 2 scarves. I think the v-stitch is pretty cool and will try my hook on this new stitch and try to create another scarf; also liked your tutorial on crocheting hats. from Texas a big Thanks

@mom2good absolutely! TJW1963 has a video. Do a you tube search for v stitch summer hat.
Thanks for this video. I'd worked this pattern once for a baby blanket but did not know what the multiples was to re-do the pattern in a different size. thank you!! I am learning how to crochet by internet......no one to teach me. your video was the best and i learned!!

I am making a shawl for my mom for Christmas. I think the V stitch is really pretty, yet easy. Your video is a good tutorial. Thank you. =)
I really enjoyed your video I've never done the V stitch before until I came across your tutorial know I can do it . Super easy.
I'm going to make a scarf for my sister in Auburn football colors. Thank you so much for all off your videos, I have taught myself how to chrochet!
I love watching your videos. It’s like a one to one crochet class! Thank you for your sharings and efforts.

Thank you for a great video - I'm currently using the V-Stitch to make a Scarf... can't wait to finish it.
Love the diagram ! Wish more crocheters kept it simple.
I like this stitch for bulky textured yarns too. You can find the place to put your hook really easily.
Some v-stitches have 2 chains, but they should skip more chs to accommodate that width. they have larger holes.
Thank you for explaining it so well and easy to understand. Cant wait to try this stitch. I struggle with having straight stitches.
Hi, I'm going to make a scarf for my sister in law for Christmas, using the V stitch. Thanks for the clear instructions! :)
I’m trying to find a stitch that won’t eat up too much yarn for a blanket. I didn’t want to make another granny square Afghan without trying something new and this seems perfect! It looks intricate without being too delicate or difficult. I hope it looks okay with my variegated yarn
I'm using the V-switch to make a throw with Bernat Velvet Plus yarn. It's a SUPER lofty plush yarn that needs a loose stitch like this.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
this is easier than i thought. great tutorial. easy instructions. very clear. can't wait to start on my next blanket now. thank you for teaching us
brilliant, thankyou, i am making a pram blanket for my 5 week old granddaughter, cant wait to see what it looks like :) dont suppose you have a tutorial for a nice edging for it when it is finished? x
I'm going to make a baby blanket with this stitch. I have several balls of Lion Brand Casey parfait spots yarn. This looks like it will go quickly! Thanks for the video, so easy to follow.
thank you so much your tutorials are so easy to follow for someone who can not read patterns .thanks again
I found a really cool bat on UA-cam and the wings call for a v stitch in the pattern. Thank for teaching me how to do the v stitch!
thanks Beth for this video; I've been following you on youtube and have learned from all of your basic vids how to sc, hdc, dc, trc and completed 2 scarves. I think the v-stitch is pretty cool and will try my hook on this new stitch and try to create another scarf; also liked your tutorial on crocheting hats. from Texas a big Thanks
@LilMovieBuff The pattern includes that ch-3 in the 'chain 136' instruction. You do not have to add the 3 more chains.
I am going to make a blanket for our granddaughter who will be born in August. Thank you for showing me how. ☺️
The drawing was genius. I instantly got it. Thank you.
