    I am from Palestine
From a city called Nablus ❤️
We are famous for being merchants and for our vast variety of sweets and deserts
Most people know that we are famous for "Kunafeh" , I am sure you’ve tried it
So when I introduce my self I say “I am Nablusyeh like the kunafeh and I am just as sweet” 😅😅 a bit self absorbed but I am joking I promise
We are also known for Nablusi soap
It is olive oil soap, vegan and organic hand made in Nablus in special places called “Masbaneh” it’s also something that makes me proud of where I come from.

It is said that my family is famously known for practicing sorcery even though I've never seen a single member of my family doing that. I don't like when people joke about it because it somehow always carries a negative connotation even as a joke. Apart from that, we have great sites in my village, Malka bordering Palestine and Syria which I highly recommend you to visit. :)

Yeah whenever I talk about someone new to my parents they often ask what they're last name is and from that they can often tell where they are from lol. I think it's an interesting component of Jordanian culture but of course when you take anything like that too seriously it can become toxic.

It's interesting to see how this topic is exotic to you :) I am pretty sure it all stems from the fact that society here is still relatively bond together and there are blurred lines between the small direct family and the extended family, that helps a lot with strengthening the "tribalism" you're referring to. Funny how you said "salty" haha, sweet videos!

One of the things that stands out most for me is that building construction methods, in the vast majority, absolutely fail to account for the bone-chilling cold of winters and the sweltering heat of the spring through fall months! Have they never heard of insulation?? Moreover, usage of insulation would save the average householders a METRIC TON of MONEY!

I'm an American woman who has been married to a Jordanian for almost 15 years (his family is also from Irbid, though he was born & raised in Amman). He's from one of the biggest families in Irbid so he appreciates his family, though he's not nationalistic which I love because neither am I as an American. I can understand appreciating a family but being "proud" of something should require effort imo and no effort of our own goes into determining which family or country we are born into, it's all up to Allah. I agree on the whole though, that Jordanians from the north are less nationalistic generally. Anyway, I love your channel masha'Allah. May Allah put barakat in it insha'Allah.

My dad's family are from a place in Palestine called Al-Malha which was a village just outside Jerusalem (It is now a suburb in west Jerusalem), The traditional trade of my family was stone masonry which my grandfather maintained a business in even after our the family fled to Amman. But sadly this tradition ended with my grandfather (I would put this down to the chaos of becoming refugees and having to adapt to new ways of life after the 6 day war).

My family name is Tawalbeh, right at the north of Jordan, where it feels almost like the clans here in Australia - there are about 10,000 people or so with my surname and sub grouping within the actual surname itself, most Tawalbeh's live in close proximity in the town of Saham or Sa7am (i guess its classified as a town?), I still can't wrap my head around it but the pride attached to my surname among my distant family members is very dramatic, especially with young men; Like if there were a conflict/ disagreement between two people the third party would be very biased in accordance to who is more closely related.
"sho ismac" (whats your name - masculine) is very commonly asked when someone owe's you something, you will be treated accordingly which I dont like to be honest, My surname happens to be quite respectable - but there are instances where people carry prejudice from past experiences with people from your Surname... Doesnt really add up.
I love the fact that i will always belong to my people in the north - that will always stick with me!

    • @MummyinAmman
      @MummyinAmman  5 років тому +1

It’s really interesting hearing this perspective! And reading your comment immediately reminded me of some family names that have some deep prejudice. I guess for everyone who benefits from this system there’s an equal amount of people who suffer!

I am an adnanitie another word for ishmalite my clan is one of the biggest tribes in saudi arabia also in Iraq, Syria etc. Us arabs can trace ourselves all the way back, it also helps to know if your a qahtani ( Noah PBUH descendant ) or an adnanite. Family name means a lot to us arabs it brings us closer as well from wherever we are sometimes theres prejudice but many Arabian tribes are warriors.

Tribal system is the worst anyone can have.. it has so many unfairness that is comes with.
1- You keep the names of your fathers and for fathers, never the mothers..
2-people have un-earned pride for just being born to a family.
3- People have always fought in name of tribe and stood by the wrong that has been done by one of the tribe. you can keep counting. its not a good thing.

well you might find this wired but we as a family they count us as Palestinian origin Jordanians but if we looked back at our family history we're originally kurds from northern Iraq as we've been told by the elders in the family passing on this piece of information form one generation to another what brought them to Palestine was war my family fought with saladin they we're a part of his army as he was a kurdish as well after he concurred Jerusalem my family settled there and never moved until the occupation of Palestine by Israel .

@@leal5049 It's very rare but if you look back at the roots of most families in the middle east i think that the only ones who have almost pure origins or didn't mix with families from outside of their home land are people of the Arab peninsula .

Tribalism can have bad things too.
It allows people to get ahead with or without credentials, it prompts unfairness and injustice for the down-tribed person. And it inhibit national unity.
By the way the example of palestinian_ jourdanians singing ( ana asli falastini) that is an example of national unity song.
I really like you channel and I love jourdan but I don't think tribalism is something great for jourdan in the long run if it maintain as a one and want to be a sovereign country.
