I have a few Adams rifles, an LWRC M6A2, a T91, and recently added a 16" Caracal 816A2 rifle. I've run thousands of rounds through the Adams system both factory built and conversions. At least a thousand through the LWRC, and few hundred through the 816. No reliability issues with any of them. The M6A2 is the heaviest and has an excellent barrel. The 816 is extremely smooth and is my favorite piston gun so far. I think it is a great value for a true service grade weapon. Buy the complete gun.

I have an Adams Arms midlength evo tactical and it’s my go to rifle. The inescapable front heavy piston curse is there though.

Nah, sig is better. I own both. The caracek really feels like a toy, and doesnt shoot as well. Plus my sig isnvhf chrome

That piston looks identical to the gen 2 516. I’m curious about compatibility between the two because Sig never sold replacement parts for it. Maybe Caracal will.

@@gundealsplease compare the two! Check the piston compatibility, specifically the gas rings on the piston. There is no aftermarket option for the 516 from my research.

LWRC IC-A5 series all day long over everything. Ive owned or shot nearly every top tier manufacturer offerings. These come with literally EVERY desirable feature as standard while all others charge extra. Full ambi, folding sights (awesome ones at that), its all there. I might also add that their ambi charging handles are amazing and those are also included. Hold one and you will see the fit and finish is heads and tails above all others. I take that back, dont hold one if you dont have the cash in your pocket or you’re gonna be depressed.
There are only two drawbacks to the ICA5, the proprietary hand guard that doesn’t accommodate mlok and barrel changes have to be done by LWRC. Other than that I’d agree, quality is exceptional.
Good answer, I picked up an IC-A5 “Crabby” blem upper on their website a long time ago. Solid and reliable with any ammo including Tula.

I have a 12.5 piston LMT and have shot my buddies IC-A5 and I found the LWRC to be more punchy than the LMT. Could be because the LMT mono upper is way heavier but the felt recoil was noticeably reduced compared to the LWRC and easier to string together follow up shots quickly
Another reason to pass on them is they refuse to allow civilians access to their armorer courses. Screw them and other companies like them.

PWS for me... I tried out the LWRC, LMT, Sig(AR180 not a AR-15), HK 416, POF all fantastic manufactures. PWS made me a to good to be true offer! I like the Long Stroke because of how it works from. Personally I wish I had the budget, I would take all of them if I could. They are works of art and if you have any of them you are very fortunate person, maybe someday right. Sucks to only be able to pick one 😂
I have the sig, caracel, and the cheaper pws. Im sure the better pws is nice, the entry piston model is trash, but super cheap now
@@jamesstephenson2346 Really? You had issues with the PWS? What problems did you have? Iraq veteran 8888, Did a 3,600 round torture test on full auto with the PWS and it is only 1 of 2 firearms(out of serveral hundred) that mag dumped ALL 3,600 rounds with zero Malfunctions! Hell Neither the SIG MCX nor LWRC Piston were able to do the 3,600 round torture test they both hard broke and failed. LWRC failed at 2460 rounds and the SIG MXC failed 2140. The PWS rifle continued to function after the test... Only 2 guns have passed that test to date, And that was the HK 416 and the PWS Mod 1. Only piston guns to pass the test. PWS also passed SOCOM's torture test with the huxwrx suppressor. It surprises me you had issues with it? Every company can send out a bad build from time to time... so it is not unlikely but PWS has fantastic customer service from what I have heard? Have you contacted them about your issue? I recommend letting them get the chance to make it right.

I have been looking for a piston gun because I now have a plethora of suppressors. I really wish these had the CL/CHF barrels that all the Caracal 816s have outside of the US. I just wish I could find a piston gun that isnt a heavy pig. I think PWS is the lightest, and I've been considering them. I just can't believe how quickly my guns get dirty now that I run suppressed full time. I also switched to the GA Dual-lok system and love it.

LWRC is top tier, but I haven't gotten their piston uppers on the channel yet.

I have a Sig 716 Patrol. Cool gun, it is the piston version and at the time I bought it the 716 was the closest thing to an HK417 you could get on the US Market without piecing one together on HKparts and spending $20,000 or whatever. It has been a great rifle and it is very accurate although it is heavy. I may get my hands on one of the newer Sig 716i variants like Hop has and shoot that some since I am looking to get a new large frame AR sometime this year but first I gotta get myself a suppressor...

Caracal is a Sig 516. The 11.5 is a Gen 3 516. That's why they're not made for US sales anymore. They're now made exclusively for Caracal. Freakin awesome upper. The hand guard is taller cuz' like the 416 it accommodates for the gas block to ride underneath rather than incorporate like the "gen 2" 516. Maybe the best piston upper, but they're all pretty good now.

They have a .308 version! As for favorite piston, so far, adams arms. Ive got tge most rounds on that in .308. 400 rounds. Its not alot, but at a dollar a round, its a little painful. I just wish that AA would sell an 18" 6.5 creedmoor upper to me. Hopefully you can get a .308 version to show off. Theyre 8# .308's wear gloves. The rail has big slots.

Duuude, here’s the kicker: this comes with a quad rail overseas 😭. Can’t get that here, I’ve talked to Caracal USA several times about it.

Looks like those bolts/screws securing the handguard to the barrel nut eliminate a few picatinny slots thereby sacrificing some mounting capability but regardless the weapon looks great.

is piston really worth it? can you mitigate the gas in the face with charging handles gas blocks etc to the point where piston is not really an upgrade? please somone talk me out of a 700$ LMT 16" barrel w/ piston
It's not worth it for most people in most situations.
They are nice if you only shoot suppressed. If not, no. I have an LMT, LWRC, and PWS. LMT all day.
If you want to learn piston, get an Adams piston kit for a fraction of the price and then decide if you want to drop the cash.
Honestly, I put a Superlative Arms bleed off gas block on my di uppers, and I get very little gas in the face when suppressed.

It's just a spring with less tension and a few less coils. The long buffer is the most important part.
I have a LMT, LWRC and a PWS. I would take the LMT if had to choose.

@Peterkass235 I like and use the monolithic rail, and for my need/use, it's the best of the systems, and the softest shooting. But i ONLY shoot suppressed so it might be very different for me. I really also do like my LWRC but because of some very shitty customer service, or lack thereof, I'm done with them and won't suggest.

I'm trying to get an LMT, but all the local stores say they can't get them, or Knights for that matter. What's the trick to finding/ purchasing one?
Apparently from what I’ve seen online, they go for about $1500-$2000 which is….. a helluva lot more affordable than any MR556 that’s for damn sure. Also a decent bit cheaper than the P415.

Living in Washington State has been a sucky experience since the AWB. All I can do is think of builds and stuff that I can't have, while we wait for higher Courts to shove the feet of our GOS and AG's up their own arses.
The wait be a long one though. SCOTUS has yet to grow a pair.

Just FYI if you have the ability to drive/Fly you can purchase the upper out of state since it doesn't need the FFL and bring it back since you own it prior to traveling. It is an option if you go visit family/Friends out of state. Or just feel like taking a road trip on an Upper quest, lol ID is not too far and still has some freedoms. But yeah the Faxon Upper looks pretty awesome I agree.
I want an ARAK too. I got the email recently that they were available. Ever wonder if gun laws are bad because if they were fixed there would be one less issue for candidates to run on? Like the way Trump just sabatoged the best border bill we will ever see because he wants to run on that issue. There is an incentive to not fix the gun laws.

I do think that the SCOTUS Judges play their own brand of politics amongst each other. I think many of them think that Justice Roberts is far too malleable, and subject to caving into political pressure to move one way or the other. I think the Constitutionalist side of the court knows he is a problem and are stalling a definitive answer to provide us all with relief. Either that or some Justices are being pressured to refuse certain 2A cases to forestall the inevitable.
Either way, the "Bundle of carrots" strategy is as old as Human Politics. The grievances of the People, are the very carrots these reprobates use to lead us back to the trough of empty promises and ineptitude.

Weird the Rail seems taller than my Sig 516 and the gas block is shrunken and hidden more under the now M-lok handguard but everything else seems compatible
Very similar, I have both here right now.
The rail and receiver on the car816 have the same profile as the hk416 to allow for the piston system. Interestingly, the 516 did away with this feature and has a standard ar15 profile. HK, Troy, and (I think) Midwest industries all make 416 profile micro-sights for this reason: operators were used to the standard ar-15 iron sight height over bore and head placement, so the shorter sights combined with taller receiver profile allowed one to maintain the same head position.
@@juanoncello86 I think another factor is that the gas block on the Sig 516 has pick rail on top which acts as an extension to the hand guard rail and maybe that helped them lower the deck height

I like this gun but it seems a little too heavy. That's why I like the Adams Arms because it's about the same exact weight of a di AR15 but it's a short stroke piston and very very reliable. I love mine. I also have a pws and pof too. All are great but the AA is the lightest

It is for outside the US only because it is same as sig 516. The sig 516 is much improved from hk416 especially sig526 used ar15 parts not hk only part. The reason C816 is to avoid the US export controls so they make all parts and build at EUA. The the difference is sig USA workers and EUA workers and then it is not difficult to choose.
So the 11.5 sig 516 is the best in this kind in the market.
The Caracal CAR816 utilized some of the same design engineers as the HK416 and the SIG516. The CAR816 is the latest in the engineering lineage of these rifles with the intention to improve upon the earlier platforms. This rifle has been reviewed and evaluated by many experts as being an improvement upon both of those models and highly touted as the best gas piston AR available, particularly at the price point which it is available. The CAR816 rifles sold in the USA are manufactured at their facility in Idaho. A common misconception is that the CAR816 is just a rebranded SIG516 and they are the same. This is not correct.

Useless without a CHF CL barrel. IAR and extra short CQB builds are the only use for piston ARs at this point.
