"There was an anomaly when a huge amount of mud came flooding down from the mountains because of hail. People heard the noise 3-4 minutes before, this is why they are waiting, but they were not aware of the amount coming."

Here in Arizona there are deep natural ravines (called washes) and one must be very careful about this.
I’ve lived in Tucson for 20 years and the only people who get caught by washes are people who voluntarily go into them. So it’s not so much careful as just use your brain.
That's one of the reasons I've wanted to visit Arizona/New Mexico. Would be amazing to see the flash floods through those washes in real life! Although this week, Reed Timmer had some awesome footage of them.

I always find it fascinating how some material can flow like a liquid such as rocks/soil but turn back solid once they lose momentum.
Fluid Dynamics is a fascinating subject 💁🏻♂️
You ever made Ooblek? Your head will explode.
It flows like liquid because the dirt is suspended in water when the mud gets deposited on higher ground and the water continues to flow down hill.
That's the difference between fluids and liquids.
Thixotropic (non Newtonian) fluid. That mud is pretty much a Bingham Plastic!

@@jarvisfamily3837 A bit of extra yard work for the guys in the left-hand house - check how their garden gets eviscerated at around 0:38 and their car gets lifted onto the wall(?) - still, a good hose-down and a check-over at the shop for the car, and it'll be fine (Hopefully).
I got a friend who messed her back up pretty bad in one of those
The Swiss are intensely smart, but it's time for a rethink on these lined streams. They add velocity to the water/sediment by being straight, narrow and smooth. It would be hard to remediate it now, because houses have been built up all around them. But if a catch basin or pond were located ever few hundred yards, it would slow the water, make the sediment recoverable, and smooth out the sudden spikes in flow, which are terrible for wildlife.
I've never seen such an accurate and pristine landslide.

Or pay three to five times more for anything than the same thing in Germany or France or Austria. There is no Amazon in Switzerland, no Ebay, and if you try to buy something online cheaper from another neighboring country, they refuse to send it. Do you get a warning for that in Switzerland from the local government? Or did someone see it coming from up mountain and alert the lower towns?
Normally, you get a warning. Same with avelanches. Of course there is always a chance it gets undetected, but since it is well known, extra forests get planted in the riskier hills to prevent this from happening. But after a heavy storm or a wildfire, the protective forest could be too weak until the new trees grow.
