The Swiss are intensely smart, but it's time for a rethink on these lined streams. They add velocity to the water/sediment by being straight, narrow and smooth. It would be hard to remediate it now, because houses have been built up all around them. But if a catch basin or pond were located ever few hundred yards, it would slow the water, make the sediment recoverable, and smooth out the sudden spikes in flow, which are terrible for wildlife.

Till you spend three and a half hours wages on a 55 minute train trip between Bern and Zurich (minimum wage, like so many of the worker bees earn). Or pay three to five times more for anything than the same thing in Germany or France or Austria. There is no Amazon in Switzerland, no Ebay, and if you try to buy something online cheaper from another neighboring country, they refuse to send it. Everyone thinks the Swiss are rich except the Swiss, who only eat chicken and pork because they can't afford fish or beef or mutton. Most Swiss have never had a rib eye or a T-bone steak. Normally, you get a warning. Same with avelanches. Of course there is always a chance it gets undetected, but since it is well known, extra forests get planted in the riskier hills to prevent this from happening. But after a heavy storm or a wildfire, the protective forest could be too weak until the new trees grow.

It bothers me that the place you are born determines the beauty of the nature around you. And did not choose were you are born. Switzerland looks so beautiful even the mud is perfect.

I'm glad they had that gully to take most of the mud. The soil looks really rich. I'd grab some for my garden if I lived nearby.

That mud looks so fertile I wish I could scoop some up to use here in the USA. I've got freaking Georgia red clay. Nothing grows very well in it.
