Whitlock and Suljović both in the European Tour tomorrow, playing Rydz and Van Den Bergh respectively. A win for either of them would be huge.

Keegan Brown was majorly unlucky to lose his card 2 years ago but won it straight back anyway. Then he (barely) qualified for the Worlds last year but now he's completely out of form and is set to lose his card immediately again.
That wouldn't really be a huge shock even though few would have predicted it when he won back his card, it but it does show the ups and downs most players outside the top 32 usually have, even if they are not as extreme as van Dongen's who was playing out of this world darts last year and is currently arguably the worst player on tour, a bit like Petersen and Durrant in the last few years.
Yup very true, his form from 2022 carried a little bit into 2023 making the QF of the first euro tour but after that he just fell off a cliff. Nowhere near qualifying for pc finals and was extremely lucky just to get to ally pally.
Radek Szaganski suffered a similar fate as Keegan Brown, and while he hasn't been as bad as Keegan or Jules this year he was arguably a top 10 player on tour the last few months of 2023 and this year has been a below average player.
I think he should be fine, but Steve Beaton is another one who could be in a spot of bother unless he improves his PC results (was great seeing him make the semis recently and hopefully he can get a couple more results like that one, to get him in the worlds again)
Whatever happens Beaton won't be on the tour anymore because he's retiring. That's why he's not in the video I think.
He’s retiring end of season and his only objective at this point is to be able to hand his own card in without having it taken off him.

Rowby is a real shame , was once one of the biggest prospects but his daughters health rightfully came first and that meant he wasnt too dialled in , he also changed his darts after his best year on tour which hindered him. Averaged 104 in a close loss to Heta recently so form is improving which is good
Agreed 100%. If I recall correctly, he would've made a grand prix debut in 2022, all he had to do was literally show up to the final euro tour before the cutoff (which he'd qualified for,) but his daughter was very ill and in hospital and as you said rightfully took priority over anything darts related. He is one of my absolute favourite players to watch, he is so entertaining, a big crowd pleaser, and just seems to always have so much fun up on stage. It's unlikely he keeps his card BUT if he has a big upturn in form the next couple months, and gets himself into the worlds and pc finals, with him being in the grand slam as well he does still have a chance.
At the same time, if he does lose his card and doesn't win it right back, I could see it benefitting him, kinda like how it's benefitted Connor Scutt who's having a terrific 2024 off the tour - although Scutt did also have a great final few months on tour in 2023.
Hi Matt, is there a keep website to keep up to date with the prize money as it falls off or as it is about to? At the moment I just try working it out from the calendar from last year and googling the prize money they would of won

As Matt says, Austria getting to the World Cup final gets Rowby-John & Mensur into the Grand Slam. That's a big help. Could draw a girl, a flakey Big Wesley or flakey Christian Kist if one of them wins the Challenge Tour money list, or a lucky qualifier.

Would be Interesting if we get some really tough fights for the tour card, like last year with Lennon and szaganski. Sadly wasn't enough for them but emediately returned to the tour

Honestly Simon losing his card is no surprise. OK world finalist, euro champ... 12 years ago or more. He would have lost it by now if he didn't have two huge reprieve. The world cup of darts that got him into the grandslam and the call up to the grand prix when others had to withdraw. I genuinely don't see him winning it straight back at q school either
I think for King it would be interesting to see what happens if he loses his card, and then fails to gain it back immediately via Q-School. Maybe it would lead to him dropping off completely. Maybe it would push him towards a bigger comeback. Who knows.

King and Whitlock would be great additions to the Seniors Tour. I think Merv still has the ability, but I'm not sure if he has the stamina anymore to have a good run even at Q-School to get his card back.
I agree with you. I try to follow his results, and Merv does still show flashes, has some good games here and there, just doesn't have anywhere near the consistency required to still be competitive on tour. Maybe he has a turnaround and comes back on tour and we see him back qualifying for ally pally in a couple years but I'd kinda rather see him on the senior's tour where I think he could be a legitimate contender for big titles.
He needs to lose some weight
With a solid 32.8 average I thought my card was a done deal.

VDV is in a predicament, not old enough for Seniors yet…..but as you said media. And financially is ok methinks.

not sure Whitlock would go to qschool. Think he would play seniors, modus and local stuff
Question for you matt, do you think it would beneficial to the pdc in general to up the amount of tour cards to expand the sport slightly and/or change the rankings from money won to a points system?
Not until the full 128 are full time pros I don’t think it should ever expand tbh
my name's not matt but I strongly believe that before they can even consider expanding the number of tour cards they need to have prize money for R1 losers at protours so that tc holders have a minimum salary they can rely on for turning up to every floor event of the year.

i'm new to darts, how much prize money do you need to achieve a tour card?
You don’t need any to get it you get through q school to keep it you need about 70k over 2 years
1 player you probably missed out on Matthew is Matt Campbell who won the North American Championship but due to a rule change he's not allowed to take that spot at the World Championship he's going to have to go through the order of merit, but he's in a battle to keep hold of his tour card as it stands at the moment and he's been holding on to the card now since 2022.
Campbell is well safe dude
He's sat at 52 if he doesn't earn another pound this year.
Campbell is comfortably keeping his card this year but if he fails to qualify for the pc finals and the worlds then next year he will be in a fight to keep his card
