OBX Shark...Nags Head Fishing Pier (Nags Head, NC)

- With Hurricane Jose sending large surf, wind, and rain into the OBX earlier this week, fishing conditions have been brutal. With hopes of hooking and landing a giant Red Drum looking slim, I decided to try my hand at pier fishing. Needless to say, I never did get my Red Drum, but I did hook a giant 8-10ft Shark and after a 45+ minute battle, I got a memory to last a lifetime.
If any of the You Tube Shark experts know what type it is, be sure to comment.

Thats awesome! Im going down towards the end of the month and was looking at that peir to fish. Really cool channel man! I subbed ya!
wow.. this is so exciting.. how great you got it on video!!! really exciting to watch! Big thumbs up my friend! Great catch!!!
Oh it was real cool...that part you can not see is all the people swimming on the beaches near by :/
I'm 99% sure it was a Sand Tiger Shark, not to be confused with the actual Tiger Shark. I don't want any keyboard warriors thinking I said it was a tiger shark. Sand Tiger Sharks are also known as Grey Nurse Sharks. I noticed in that brief shot where you could see it on your video that it had the pointy snout characteristic of the Sand Tiger/Grey Nurse. Also, I noticed that it's secondary dorsal fin was almost as large as the primary and it also had the longer upper lobe of the tail which are also characteristics of the Sand Tiger. The other main reason I say it's a Sand Tiger is simply because I used to live in the Outer Banks and have done a lot of drum fishing off piers and the beach and I've seen tons of Sand Tigers caught doing exactly what you're doing here. Nice Job!
Wow...thanks for the insight, never fished from a pier before and never caught a shark like that before....I am definitely hooked on sharks now, it was a great fight.
No problem, glad I could help. Good luck in the future.
great video man! i go shark fishing on that same peir all summer long. i caught massive sharks all type off that pier. supprised the drum fishermen werent out there yelling at you like they do me
Glad you liked the video...I am definitely hooked on Shark fishing. It was a great experience and I hope to get back down to the OBX a few times this year. Good luck on the water.
awww that looks like a dolphin
Maaan I love that sound of drag peeling off!... It looked like a healthy black tip... But hard to tell. Im headed to Galveston to do some shark fishing this weekend. Vid coming soon.... Keep up the good vids! Happy fishing!
Good luck out there Sharks are a blast to catch
So You Tube Shark experts...what type of shark do you think this was?
1Cast 1Fish tiger
Nice fight made my arms sore just watching! I subbed. I remember my first OBX fishing trip thinking I was prepared and an avid fisherman. I was put in my place real quick rubbing shoulders at the point with the big boys. 10 foot rod with 3oz weight lmfao that's a pinfish setup.
Dude it was a heck of a fight...biggest rush fishing I have ever had for sure. I hope to go back down there this fall a few times...got some new gear, so I am ready to give it a test. Most important thing I have ever learned at the point....NO BRAID....lol...I thought everyone used braid now days....not there...lol
Awesome video as always we love your channel it’s just amazing and love to see you fish absolutely brilliant what bad luck that was enjoyed the video thanks for sharing 1 mike likeee
Thanks so much....it was sad this one got away, but it was so awesome to feel the power of a big shark on the other end of the line
and i think it was a sand tiger, this time of year we catch lots of them off nags head pier
Nice! Headed there in two weeks.
That's awesome...good luck...hope you catch a big one
I fished today thier was A great day!! Lots of spade fish today!!!💯🔨🎼🏈👍🏻spot crocker
Super jealous....wish I was down there right now. Good luck
Looks like a sand tiger shark. They look scary but they really are pretty much harmless.
Thats what everyone said, still looked crazy though and was fun to fight
great white shark for sure
Lol, not quite, but I did find a great white tooth on the beach

Awesome thank you
They really put up a good fight I normally like it when they come off without having to land them.
This was a big one,I really would have loved to get it to shore and check it out...no way for that to happen though with all the people on the beach
In New Zealand, they use shark for their fish and chips.
It is good white meat.
@@mtrunk8570 never ate shark myself
Definitly a sand tiger, or sometimes known as a ragged tooth shark, they have a very pointed nose, and two dorsal fins around the same size, the top fluke of the tail is also very long compared to the bottom fluke, another characteristic of the sand tiger.
That's what others have said too...I had no idea what it was, it was just an amazing battle....I hope to one day catch another and get it to the shore...I am definitely hooked on sharks. Thanks for checking it out...be sure to hit that subscribe button
I thought you were gonna wimp out. How long did you fight it?
It was easily 45+ minutes total...I will be honest with you I almost wanted to, the drag was all the way tight and that thing kept pulling. My arms were fried afterwards...but so much fun and a awesome fishing memory.
Love it there going soon
That's awesome....are you fishing while there? If so, be sure to post back how you did
1Cast 1Fish ok
I was just fishing and caught a smaller blacktip and they looked the same but wasn’t from pier
That's awesome, so you caught a few while out there, that's cool. I hope I get the chance to make it down there again this fall.
I’m going down for Labor Day but a few weeks ago when I went there a man had caught a sting ray on accident but the let it go
Good luck down there...hope the fish are biting great for you.
I’m going there today hope same luck comes
Awesome....definitely hit the subscribe button and be sure to report back how you did. That pier was really nice IMO and everyone was catching a ton of fish that day....Good Luck
What bait did you use ?
I caught a Croaker about 10” and used it as bait.
How would you have got the shark off the hook if it didn’t break off?
Lipped it like a bass and popped it out....lol....no I most likely would have cut the hook or line depending on where it was hooked. I don't think I would have ever got this monster on the pier anyway. I would have had to work it all the way to the beach, and it was bound to get in the piles and break off I am sure.
Im in this video........
What's the odds? That is so cool and awesome
Avalon pier?
Nags Head Public Pier
1Cast 1Fish oh
It’s a really nice pier, I have been to Avalon too and it was nice as well.
1Cast 1Fish fun fact: avalon actually got destroyed by a hurricane and was rebuilt
Good sand tiger he was probably 6.5 to 7.5
I can tell you it was big by my standards of big...lol The one thing about this was that ever since I have had a big spot in my heart to want to get out and catch some big sharks...have not made it happen yet...but one day.
Great fish never caught a sand tiger I heard they fight like a ray if I came of rude I’m sorry
Oh...definitely did not come off as rude man. You know now that you say that, I would have to agree...I have caught some big rays, and this definitely did remind me of a big ray.
What bait did you use
Bait of choice was Croaker head. I was fishing for Drum when this guy wandered along
1Cast 1Fish thanks, we’re staying here for a week and fishing and all we were catching were rays and mullets and were trying to get on something else
jake mcdowell I have caught some big rays down there before. Did you try using chunks of the mullet? Enjoy your time down there and I hope you have some good luck and catch some nice fish.
I live here
That is awesome...the best area to fish on the East coast imo...I will be going back this fall
1Cast 1Fish actually I’m going fishing today to see if I can catch any thing
@@joshp8210 Good luck...let know how you do.
1Cast 1Fish ok I’m going back to day I got a new pole used some squid fished with a freind caught some silver fish and pig fish
Nice...was anyone catching much else out there? I am waiting till the fall and reports of some redfish moving in to get back down there.
Is that Avalon?
This was Nags Head Pier
1Cast 1Fish oh because I’m in corva rn 4x4 beach
@@povhunterr I was there in Corova...and drove to the pier. I caught some small 2ft sharks right there off the beach .
1Cast 1Fish nice
Let us know if you catch anything
Blacktip
That's what I thought too...but some say Sand Tiger...what ever it really was, I wish I could have got a better look at her...it was a giant for sure. I can't wait to get the chance to do it again
