Bro, I had the same thoughts originally about MVP drivers aside from the Wave. But I went for it early this year and they feel great now. I found though that most of their older run stuff just isn't as comfy nor as good. You really need to try the newer stuff in fission. Fission Timelapses absolutely bomb and are pretty reliable in the higher 167g+ weights. Same with the Fission Defy. Fission Octanes, and the Fission Dimensions are nuts if you hit them right. I had to adjust grip a little for the Dimensions but they just go and it honestly feels better for me to throw around that 167-170g weight. I have similar armspeed and spin as you and I find them to beat most of my other discs. With the way you like to hyzer flip you should be able to handle the extra turn and they should all be more reliable than a DD1 anyway. Seriously though, fission is where MVP really shines lately.
Any MVP disc is finicky unless you have that high as fuck spin, making them all a bit more unreliable than anything else. Love MVP, but if I'm feeling off, the gyro drivers are a bit funky
@@luryas626 I'm surprised I haven't heard people say this more often. It really seems to be true where MVP discs will become overstable much quicker if you can't get the rpms up properly. That being said, learning to keep my spin up consistently has improved my game
@@njott1021 I know! Which is so weird since it's WHAT GYRO DOES. It just amplifies the characteristics of "disc speed". So if you can get a putter up to speed, it'll push straight further, if you can't get a driver up to speed, it'll dump and die much quicker 🫣
@@luryas626 It's not just gyro, dome and stiffness have a big factor as well and a lot of the older MVP driver runs are very stiff and flat and take forever to beat in. Most of the new fission stuff is nicely domey which mellows the flight a bit. Combined with a bit lighter weight to get up to speed and increasing the gyro effect slightly with fission pushing even more weight to the rim is why I think all the new run molds are so much better. Even with Neutron they've solved some of the dome and stiffness issues, look at how good the Trails are compared to older molds and look at how good the fizzy Defys are compared to the old neutron runs.
All the “gyro” does is straighten out the flight in theory, but I feel like they lack a lot of glide, and if you’re not good with the hand feels it’s possible it sacrifices some RPMs, which just negates the point of gyro in the first place. Their mids and putters are top tier though
Stiffness of plastic may be your main hindrance to a comfortable hand feel. Compare a first run s line DD1 to a flow c line dd1 and a neutron Zenith. If you like the feel of the s line and not the flow c line or Zenith than you probably like the feel of less stiff plastic.
I lived in Michigan for about 10 years and was caught up in the early gyro craze. I remember when the Envy came out and broke the scene in MI. People claiming that the tech was really noticeable and all this stuff...I don't think it's a gimmick, but I also don't think it makes as big of a difference as people claim it does. Their plastic feels great and I typically like the lower-profile discs, but other than that, they're just another brand that wasn't as popular until they got a big name pro.
Based on dimensions of the DD1 try out the Axiom Wrath and the Streamline Shift! If you like the feel of the Streamline Shift and you don’t like the feel of the Wrath then 1.5 cm non domey rim width disc may be the lowest rim width that feels comfortable to you in a driver disc.
Trace vs DD1 : 2 main dimension difference is rim diameter ratio and height. DD1 Rim diameter ratio is listed at 5.2 while the R.D.R for the Trace is 5.7. DD1 height is listed at 1.5 and the height of the Trace is listed as 1.7.

I scooped a Trail after hearing your praise of it, it's been a SOLID recommendation. For my noodle arm it has been, as OG Brod might have said, "A straight piss missile" total laser beam. Super fun disc on forehands for me especially.
The Trail and Fission Photon are the only ones I've really been able to jam with. The special edition orbital with the space station on it is pretty fun too.
Fission wave helped me break through some distance plateaus, but is now too flippy. It's still in the bag for early round drives, before the arm has woken up and for reliable turnovers. But I've found myself turning to Gstar and Halo Terns for max distance shots (Halo for moderate headwind). I love a lot of MVP/Axiom molds, but I haven't found one that matches the Tern yet. I have a Proton, Nuetron, and Fission Waves in the bag. Nuetron has been nice and straight, but doesn't have the glide of a Tern, and the Proton is more stable.
cosmic neutron wave in a lighter weight. The key to the distance drivers and mvp in general is lighter weights, the rim really helps keep them stable even at the lower weight.

Love mvp putters, mids, and slower fairways, but the faster discs are meh. So flat, usually more overstable than their numbers, questionable glide. Ever since the covid production changes many of their discs lost all dome. I think due to the flatness+gyro the transition from turning/gliding to fading also seems different and harder to predict, get right compared to non-mvp discs. You flip a disc and it doesn't come back, or you don't flip it and it hyzers the whole time, they seem really finicky trying to get the angle and speed right to get a nice flight flip, turn, and fade reliably.
I know you can't / won't try every disc in MVP's lineup, and I understand the hand feel issue ( I don't like 13 speeds and other, and even my Fission Timelapse doesn't feel as good in the hand as some Destroyers). BUT... As said by others, if you like 11 speeds, you need to give a chance to at least a Wave. Because of that spin rate, you need to try an Eclipse Wave, either the OTB one (most stable Wave) or the newer / easier to find Silva Saarinen Eclipse Wave. This could be really close to your beat-in DD1
I think 65mph is fine even for drivers. I have one buddy throws 460-500 with average 67 mph. I bought a tech disc and found out the reason im only maxing at 430 is because my nose angle. mids will fly far even with a positive nose angle. he throws about the same speed as me just his nose angle is down.
Long time MVP user, and their distance drivers have never stayed in the bag. They have poor glide compared to Innova and Trilogy. When a domey Wave is made, I'll return.
So I know you said you won't go past an 11 Driver but for the fans or just for fun would you consider give the other drivers a video even if they feel so bad for the fans? Like the dimension as an example.
You might just be getting older. I used to throw past this one tree a few years ago on a par 4 at my home course. Now a full smack is not even close to reaching the tree. Arthritis is killing my distance.
It took the drivers the longest for me to switch to. If the other brands weren't so damn terrible at their plastics, I would have stayed with DD and Innova significantly earlier. Didn't help that each hardcore local innova player was an asshole or said to only throw only one specific mold per hole.
yeah, they feel like shit and glide like shit. The overmold feels like ass. The only distance mold that feels have way decent is Trail, but if Trail was non overmold it would be their best disc.

Are you allowed to throw streamline? Give some of those drivers a chance
No, Time-lapse or Dimension?
Hard to say. You can throw farther than me with a putter soooooo you prolly don’t even need distance drivers
I thought i saw a video where you destroyed fission dimensions…
Max weight fission defy!!!!
Brod for the love of god, put that rangefinder in feet already
@@ZB11130 that is simply not an option on this range finder🤷🏽♂️
What? Brod is literally outstanding in his field of doing math with his phone. That is quality content.
You might just be getting older. I used to throw past this one tree a few years ago on a par 4 at my home course. Now a full smack is not even close to reaching the tree. Arthritis is killing my distance.
10 speeds are the superior class of disc.
Archer not the arrow. It's you not the disc.
‘I don’t like the MVP drivers’… but… ‘I haven’t really been throwing distance drivers lately’ Ha

It took the drivers the longest for me to switch to. If the other brands weren't so damn terrible at their plastics, I would have stayed with DD and Innova significantly earlier. Didn't help that each hardcore local innova player was an asshole or said to only throw only one specific mold per hole.
360 is not noodle arm distance
Trust me, I've got one and would be ecstatic if I could throw a disc that far
Dimension!
Brod, for mvp you need a fisson photon. Look at james conrads bag. You are correct though, the mvp distance drivers stink overall.
You have to be killing retention with that song over and over.
Nah, my retention is the highest it’s ever been🚀🚀
@@broderic well just me then 😂😂
yeah, they feel like shit and glide like shit. The overmold feels like ass. The only distance mold that feels have way decent is Trail, but if Trail was non overmold it would be their best disc.
You're offending the entire e-disc golf world.... and I love it. 😂 Gyro is trash and now we have evidence from the top 3 players to ever use that rubbish... Eagle, Simon and Brod.
Top 3 babyyyyy🚀🚀🏃🏽♂️🤝
Vanish on crazy hyzer. It goes for days
MVP / Axiom Putters and midrange like the hex, + Innova Drivers = ideal set up
Dont complain about the discs not going far if you do throw fast discs.
@@mikkelisaksenrobinson ok
MVP fanboy life. Guess it gets clicks.
Sooooo many clicks🚀🤝
a bad craftsman blames his tools
Not a fan of mvp
'Farther', not 'further'.
Farther is distance. Further is figurative, metaphorical.
@@JohnBell3 I do not care at all.
@@broderic Using random words that sound like the right similar can be understood if you don't know the difference. Willful ignorance on the other hand... That's just dumb and calls into question any statements you make that rely on critical thinking and subjective thought. Why not just use the word 'facilitate' then. It doesn't mean 'farther' either? But it is a synonym of further and both start with 'F' too!
@@JohnBell3 this is disc golf content man, I think %100 of people who watched this understand what I meant. And again I do not care, at all.
@@JohnBell3if you are going to be obnoxious about grammar you should at least be right! While common usage in American English is trending towards the distinction you made, it is not definitionally so. It may be uncommon, but it is perfectly correct to use further when talking about physical distance.
