my local pool store gave me an estimate of 'around $600' to change out the sand. That didn't include the price of the sand or a replacement O-ring. Your video was simple to follow so I'll do it myself this weekend. Thank you sir for a job well done!
Its soo easy. Just did mine.
Awesome. Thank you for the feedback.
@David Flowers. I would not give that pool store another dime for anything. That is ridiculous. My store quoted my $1000 to install a whole new one unit with sand.
How many sand bag you used
We charge $1080 CAD 😂
This video was so helpful! My dad used to always take care of our pool and he passed away and left me in charge! come to find out when I opened the pool this year the stand pipe for the laterals was broken, watched this video a couple times, got my confidence up and did the whole repair myself! Thanks for sharing:)
I’m glad it helped. Sorry about your dad passing away. Have a good one 😁👍
I have the same problem and this video helped me too
This is one of the best how to videos I have seen! Sincerely sir, thank you.
Straight and to the point. Thanks very helpful
5 years ago and still very helpful. Used your vid today for my filter. Thanks brotha!!!
Can't even describe how much confidence this video gives me. Thanks for a great DIY video.
quick tip when you unscrew the cap at :25 if you turn the cap around it has a built in tool to remove the white insert so you can wash it out from the top
You do a great job explaining and demonstrating this intimidating job.
😁👍 thanks.
Outstanding video. Very informative and helpful in avoiding pitfalls
Thank you for ALL of your advice. Watching your video made it easy for us to do this for the first time... Your Video made it all the way to the Philippines ....
Replacing my sand and ur video came up. Very simple to follow. From this 72 year old man,,,, Thanks.🙂
Thanks for this very informative video. My pool guy said he'll charge me $350 so, thanks to you, looks like I'll save about $250! The use of a shop vac to remove enough sand before dumping out the rest is a great tip for me because I thought I was going to have to hire a young, STRONG handyman to tip the cannister over to remove the 300 pounds of sand. (I'm 67, BTW, so my heavy-hefting days are far behind in the rearview mirror!)
Thank you so much for this video! I was quoted quite a large amount to change my laterals and labor. Cost me less then half the amount to do it myself and your video helped me do it! Minus the almost cutting off a finger 😂 thanks for the video!!!
Perfect post! Exactly what I needed and got me ready for the summer! Thank you!
Thank you very much for this so informative video to the point that made me go and buy the filtering assembly and open the sand filter and do the job so professionally not like before !! Thanks a lot again
Well done Brother! Short, simple, and Spot on!👊Im a do it yourself-er and was a little shocked at the price of the pool sand. Thank you!
Terrific videos that will save me about $300. Two things I might do differently is to replace the O-ring under the valve and to use a union joint on the lines to/from the filter. They are made for this kind of occasional disconnect/reconnect.
👍😁
Worked great for me, especially the water in before the sand. Thanks.
Wow my husband is a pool tec and now I understand him more! He does everything we own a pool co for 17 yrs
Thanks! I’m ready to change the sand, good video.
I’ve been terrified to do this, this is so so helpful! Thank you!!
Explained more clear than a crystal clear pool, you da man thanks!!!!!!
😁👍 I appreciate that
The Valve Body has a seal which can be replaced and also allow debris to pass directly back to the pool. Replace sand when the rough edges of the sand become smooth & don’t “grab” debris.
Thanks! Good video which answers some of the problems I have been having!
Thanks! Your video helped so much! Going to watch more of them.
Thanks so much for sharing. Im changing my sand today!! thanks again
Thank you for the step by step instructions! Now all I need is my husband to be as pleasant as you were when he changes our filter later today 😁
Thank you. I hope he is in good spirits too.. 😀 Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment
thats funny
Hah! That’s hilarious!
Indeed, he was quite calm and polite.
Great reminder for us who often get upset and don’t realize the effect on others.
@@stevebutler812 Well said...we need those reminders in today's world. People get wayyyy too mad at each other quickly and over (sometimes) stupid things! My great grandma 👵 was the sweetest most kind lady EVER so when someone is pushing me to my limits I tend to say to myself "would you speak to Grandma Edie that way?" 🤣😂 Of course I wouldn't so that usually works for me!
Thank you so much for this video!! This was so helpful!!! God bless you guys!!!
Doing mine this weekend. The laterals was the only thing I was worried about but after watching this, will be a piece of cake. Thanks
Very interesting and informative. Been having trouble with the filter and this explains why. I've been working with original sand from many, many years ago. Time for a change!

My filter has the 2 lines goin in the side of it. I’m sure replacin the sand in mine will be done the same way as yours. I just thought that I would throw in the differences in the lines FYI for anyone w/the same line arrangement as mine . Thank You Much For The Tutorial !!!😜!!!

Regarding saving time: unions just make sense. I've had unions on mine for 10 years and they have yet to leak. Original o-rings. I use a little dab of Magic Lube.
Thank you u really helped me. Gotta admit I do love unions though. I havent had a problem with them leaking yet.
I've always wondered about when to replace the sand. Thanks Van !!!
No problem. Share this video with your friends who have pools. Thanks for watching Liz. Have a great weekend
Great video. Thanks. Any sand or pool specific sand?
Thank you your video was very helpful. Ended up saving me close to $400. Much better in my pocket then the pool store service charge.

My pleasure 😃👍
Thanks for sharing this video sir.
Thanks my friend.
Very helpful thanks!
👍😁
Great video. I think I can do this!!
You definitely can. 😁👍
Thanks for sharing!! Now I can get rid of my pool guy.
Most competent people can assemble a union so it won't leak. Alignment and eliminating pipe strain will work wonders. They are, after all, equipped with an o-ring seal. The reason why you need to change the sand every 3-5 years is that the sharp edges of the sand grains will wear down over time and reduce or eliminate the filtering efficiency. This leads to cloudy water that will not seem to clear up no matter how long you run the pump and exorbitant chemical use.
100% true. 👍😁
Great help. Thanks
Glad it helped
followed this yesterday and changed the sand no problem. amazing how the wet/dry vac sucks up that sand! unfortunately the PSI is still close to 30 on my pool so i'm gonna get another gauge, mine might be shot. Pool clears up quicker now though!
Awesome. Glad everything worked out for ya. And those gauges don’t last long at all.
Thanks for this!
👍😁
Great job on the video. Very informative!
I appreciate you 😁👍
Old pool company I used to work for overcharged more than the damn moving companies did! I would go back to their houses after hours and help them with much cheaper (and just as effective) options. From plugging up skimmer pinhole leaks to doing sand changes myself for about $80-100 instead of $600+ on the job. I don't like ripping folks off, especially when I know times are tough. I've come back to this video multiple times for a refresher since I still help some folks with their pools. Glad it's still up.
Thanks it was a big help
👍😁 glad it helped
Awesome video thanks for the help
No problem at all. It was my pleasure. I’m glad it helped you. Thank you for taking the time to comment. I really appreciate it.
