Brother I am really looking forward to this one I've got it saved for lunch time! It looks like a gorgeous sword cannot wait to watch this review! Much love my brother
Hira Zukuri geometry makes Katanas even more ferocious cutting machines. The “weakness” and lack of toughness on Katanas with this grind is so overblown and untrue. Walter Sorrells, a great smith who has been forging Japanese swords for decades demonstrated this in spades.
First thing I noticed with mine was the fitting and overall quality. Their new fittings are outstanding and will be interesting to see what price level they use them for and they have a new copper tsuba as well that is awesome. Good review that I enjoyed and a nice sword.
Thank you for this review! I have been looking at hira-zukuri a lot lately and have really wanted one as my next purchase. I appreciate getting such a thorough look at one.
You are very knowledgeable and a great cutter; fun to watch you do kata as well. I am a bit tempted to buy a Zsey now. If I weren't spending on nihonto I probably would in a heartbeat.
This is truly a real high end piece of cutlery, just beautiful piece Karl, your knowledge in this type of cutlery is just outstanding, I can always know that you're advice in collecting this type of blade is more valuable than the balde itself, a true professional and much respect for the art, fantastic review Karl very well done,

Congrats, that sword is beautiful and cuts like a razor. Extremely nice. Great job with the cutting too, mix of kesagiri, kiriage, and horizontal too (forgot that name).

I haven't looked at a whole lot of swords but what you are showing is very tightly fitted. This was a great video Karl, you got very clear shots of everything.
This was instructional in terms of seeing a 1500 katana vs a 100 katana. I also like the juxtaposition of the traditional garb breathing/ swishing quiet of the dojo vs the ballcap family gathering rooster crowing of the cutting demo.
Oh I re read your comment. I realize now what you were asking. It's called tatami. Or woven grass mats that are rolled up then soaked in water for 24 hrs. They have the same resistance of an arm, leg or neck.
