I really like the traits from this game. I’ve been experimenting with quick character spin ups for voice acting auditions, and this trait table is really good for playing around with different intentions.
@@Nerval-kg9sm In the conversation they had, the question came up 'was he ever king?' which was answered with a 'no'. So yes it is relevant to the conversation they had. Just wanted to prevent misinformation taking hold.
For the final stage of character creation, Training & Practice, I believe according to the rulebook you apply 5 points to Skills, 1 point to a Trait or Passion, and 1 point to STR, SIZ, DEX, CON and APP per year of training as a Squire. So you could repeat this seven times if you wanted to start at age 21.
Looking forward to the next sessions after being able to play a good session of Pendragon at the GCN retreat! Oh, and if Brian is looking for an NFL team, he could do worse than the most storied team in NFL history: the Packers!
We're so lucky to be living in a time where there are so many cool TTRPGs out there to play. I'd love to see a long term campaign of Pendragon on the network (same with Runequest).
It is a great series of games coming up. My most anticipated in years. I mean Pendragon AND Welcome to Night Vale? My next wish would be Chuck Tingle's game, lol
Under the Training & Practice section of character creation it states that you get one of the three choices for each year as a squire. So, with the characters starting at age 21 and becoming a squire at age 14, they should have had 7 choices of the three options listed (skills, trait or passion, or characteristic increase). That is if I read that section correctly.
I feel like Paula earned a bottle cap of some sort for that burn on Joe's character right after the break, that was too good! I've bought this start set after the last stream of this game. It's gathering some dust on the shelf with my Cyberpunk Red book since I'm struggling to schedule my PF sessions as it is, but I hope to one day do a character creation session and one shot for a holiday break or something.
For anyone interested in history in 508 AD (the era of mythical Arthur and Merlin) there were no such things as knights or chivalry. That wouldn't be invented until centuries later along with shining suits of plate armor and two handed broadswords. In 6th century AD Britain small Christian kingdoms of Romanized Britons warred against invading pagan Angles and Saxons which would have resembled the viking Danes and Norse that came a few centuries later. The reason we now think of King Arthur being a medieval king in a castle with knights is because a 15th century author Mallory wrote "Mort d'Arthur" and not knowing or caring about history had the story take place in his own contemporary medieval type setting. So even if it borrows from the entire 1000 year span of medieval history this game is still a fantasy out of time.
Re. "a fantasy out of time"... and all the better for it! The movie "Excalibur" kept this aspect as well rather than trying to portray a realistic 6th century Britain, and it's all the better for it too.
The Training and Practice was done a bit wrong... "For each year of training, select one: [of the three options]", not one each and then done. You could do one in each, but that would be just three years, and there would be another four years to become a 21 year old knight. So the characters here would be 17 year olds, and only very barely qualified to be knights. Also, by 'forcing' everyone to use one pick in the traits/passions rather than being able to use it for skills too, it prevented Paula's character from becoming a knight, too. Also, technically none of them should be knights yet: "To qualify for knighthood, squires must be at least 18 years of age..."
i like character generation videos. It seems that Pendragons binary traits thing could be utilised in other systems favourite fictional king? King Kong
Everyone roll 4d6, plus 100, times 5, plus eighty. Now take the result of that, and for every full 500's, you get to roll again. Why not just roll a D4 to see how many times you roll?
To address the disrespect from the ice breaker. SETTRA THE IMPERISHABLE, KHEMRIKHARA, LORD OF THE GREAT DESERT, KING OF KINGS, THE GREAT UNIFIER, COMMANDER OF THE GOLDEN LEGIONS, BRINGER OF LIGHT, CHOSEN OF PTRA, TAKER OF SOULS, SCION OF NEHEK AND GOD TAMER WAS THE ONLY CORRECT ANSWER YOU COULD HAVE GIVEN. LONG MY HE REIGN IN UNDEATH. I WOULD ASK HIM FOR PITY UPON YOUR SOULS BUT IT SURELY WOULD NOT BE GRANTED.
Please make Pendragon a long term campaign. It would such good emergent storytelling on the network
This would be a great cast as well! I've been hoping they play, Pendragon, Dragonbane or an OSR style game!
just all the things lollll
I agree. :)
Add me to the list! More please!
Skid was robbed on that “high stakes at the Battle of Salisbury” line
Early season Simpsons tier joke.
Oh skid, I am so bummed you got not a single peep for both the Life of Brian reference or the salisbury steak pun. I got them, and I chuckled at both.
Let's do a Monty Python game
I backed that one, it's shipping soon and I can't wait. I'm super tempted to give it to Skid next Gen Con @@boeklo1251
@@noahjaybee a podcast I follow gave it a terrible review, but I'm sure the group can do something fun with it.
Agreed!
I read this comment before watching and still missed the Salisbury reference
Perfect Paula is a low-key star of the GCN.
Pendragon is one of the goat systems. Hope you guys eventually run a longer campaign.
Somehow Joe ended up making Sir Will again.
For Highbury!
I was waiting for this joke the entire session.
Sir Will as played by Rufus Sewell in A Knight's Tale.
this joke didn’t get enough recognition 10/10 😭
Loved this. Totally want a long campaign of this to see the generational aspect of the game
Brian Holland’s return to GCN. Check out his Call of Cthulhu game he ran for GCN at Gen con last year.
Wow, two hours of character creation and IT WAS AWESOME!
Now I can only picture Joe's knight as lord farquad
Awesome ! Just used the code and snagged the hardcover and PDF ! Sweet ! Excited to watch this series ! 🐉
Nice!
Me too.
I'd not heard of this game, but with these players, it will definitely be a lot of fun.
Their game from last year's Gen Con is available here on the GCN channel, it's just under 2h if you want a quick peek at the system :)
More Brian holland pleas
Awesome, the new edition of Pendragon is fantastic! Way to go Glass Cannon!
This was a lot of fun! I love random character generation, especially for short form games. And what a cast!
Its very important that the table is round no?
I expect this to be exactly like the Excalibur (1981) movie
Audio listeners won't get to enjoy seeing Brian's cat in the background
Watching from Ann Arbor - cool to learn I'm in Chaosium's back yard! Must agree that a game at the Big House needs to be on Brian's bucket list.
Hey! My wife and I live in Howell. If you ever need someone to game with, let us know!
Ann Arbor Chaosium Unite!

Favorite fictional king?
*Saber materialized, blinks in surprise and confusion*
"Uh....does she count?"
49:17 Feeling seen as a left-handed ginger. 😂 Thanks Paula!
I'm here for you
We need the spinoff podcast of Joe & Skid trying to help Brian choose an NFL Faction to support. 😂❤
As a Bears fan that lives in Wisconsin, you could do worse than the Lions as a team to support. As long as Brian doesn't choose the Vikings.
Not Skid dropping that History of the World Part 1 reference lmao
So many good references from Skid this show. Castle Anthrax during the chastity talk had me dying.
Somehow I think Noura created Helen of Troy.
I really like the traits from this game. I’ve been experimenting with quick character spin ups for voice acting auditions, and this trait table is really good for playing around with different intentions.
John did become King after Richard died, he signed the magna carta. Kind of famous for that. It was a big deal. 😂
Irrelevant. He wasn't king during the story they referenced.
@@Nerval-kg9sm In the conversation they had, the question came up 'was he ever king?' which was answered with a 'no'. So yes it is relevant to the conversation they had. Just wanted to prevent misinformation taking hold.
Wahay
I've been waiting for this stuff last years stuff was great really looking forward to it guys thanks for putting up on the UA-cam channel
Sir Will rides again
makes me smile watching Brian's reaction to Joe just exploding into his intro....is anyone ever truly ready for that energy
SKID! "They released wroderick".... that flew over the team's head. Well done sir
Pendragon is in my opinion what RPGs should be
This was fantastic ❤. Please let’s see more of this. Love Pendragon and this made me even more excited about it. ❤

I want more of this on GCN please i LOVE THIS.
having to work overtime this weekend, thinking I'll have nothing to fill my mind with, and GCP coming through, thank you 😂
Well I'm hyped! FOR GLORY!
I love this (and everything the GCN does), although as someone who lives in Salisbury the mispronunciation of Salisbury does make me shed a tear
Fun Stream, love the Pendragon game so far.
Joey O! And Noura? and Skid? this is going to be magic.
"Does my horse like me?" -Paula is so funny and cute.
Looking forward to the next sessions after being able to play a good session of Pendragon at the GCN retreat!

The Cymric culture is Welsh. Wales and Welsh are Anglo-Saxon names for Cymru and Cymry.
Waiting for the day that GC plays Warhammer 40k and gets Henry Cavill as a guest.

John was actually King after Richard died, he ruled from 1199 to 1216.
So infamous there has never been another king john in england and his barons were able to force him to sign magna carta
I was pulling for King Ralph in the ice-breaker 😂
It is a great series of games coming up. My most anticipated in years. I mean Pendragon AND Welcome to Night Vale? My next wish would be Chuck Tingle's game, lol

The character building was so entertaining...Paula's character is going to be a hott mess. Very excited to watch the action!
Yaaaaaaasss was looking forward to more Pendragon!!
"courtly love, got to win over Courtney Love" Skid, bahahaha
Not me seeing gen con in the title and thinking I got the dates wrong lol, looking forward to seeing y'all there!

Chaosium games always have the best character creation, as does Paula.
Arthur? Ficticious?! Never say that to a Welshman!
Sir Quegan, Tiny Dancer
Please make this Long term😢
Favorite fictional king: Aragorn.
Joe's inner power gamer is rage flipping a table. Lol
Omg. So excited for next part. ❤
My favorite fictitious king? King Kong.
nice Life of Brian references Skid. .. and there were crickets from your cast mates.... i chuckled.
Skid was on fire --- Courtney Love
Joe constantly looks like he's in pain from his dice lol
A true hero isn't about strength it's about how you bolster the hearts of the strong 🛡🧡
For Highbury?
look at the pretty kitty! 47:00
God damn that opening roll system was overly complicated.
So it begins!!
Salisbury Steaks are a fond memory from childhood. Paula’s character is a pagan hermit- or should be
looking forward to ep 2.....
Joe and Skid giving my Detroit Lions props. Hells yeah #onepride
Oh, Is that the Perfect Paula?
That’s right Joe, Go Birds!
Hahaha... Skid, "courtly love, we have to win over Courtney Love."
Joe's like a short Jamie Lannister
NEED MORE NOW!
Joe's character: short, skinny, beautiful glossy black hair, cruel, selfish.... Mfw Joe is playing Lord Farquad
So good. This makes me want to watch the green knight again.
I have question. Why don't the cast have a NRL or AFL team? I'm sure Brian does.
This jawn is dope
Thats how you spell jon!?! I love it.
Joe's gonna roll...
Joe character sounds like Lord Farquad
Distinctive feature: large codpiece.

Fiona Southpaw :)

The initial sum also served to provide their parents glory :)
Noura sounds like a Joan of Arc archetype
Is Mum-ra a king though?
Courtly love - you gotta win over Courtney Love. Damn it Skid. 😆
YES!!!!! NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS!!!!! ALL THE WAY
Prince John did in fact become king after Richard the Lionheart died. His reign was notable for a little thing called Magna Carta
I was gonna say thats a pretty big moment in British and indeed European history.
Irrelevant.
