Hey Darren, I just got my X20S yesterday and have been a ton of help. I am totally new to frSky and your videos have been s lot of help. I was wondering where will be a good source of info to learn more about ETHOS, your videos are great, but I really need to study this thing. After 15 years in the hobby I moved out of Jr and spectrum mostly because of the prices on the receivers nowadays frSky are a great option, for the price.
Hi Carlos. The best place to start is the manual on the ETHOS GitHub at the bottom of this page github.com/FrSkyRC/ETHOS-Feedback-Community There may also be some useful information on RC Groups. But to be honest, I find most useful things get buried on there.
I was wondering if it is in your plans to do an instruction on how to match servos on a 4 servo alerons. I am trying to set a 120cc petrol Edge540 and since FrSky is new to me I'm having hard time with this
Hi Carlos. I’ve been thinking about how I can do this. Unfortunately I don’t have any awesome planes like that with 2 servos per aileron. But I may have a solution that will at least be able to let me show how it’s done in ETHOS. I’ll see what I can get done for you 👍🏻
Just received my FrSky X20S and really appreciate all the info you provide on this channel! Just to make sure, if my radio shipped with FW version 1.0.9 FCC, can I follow your instructions and install the latest version, skipping all the previous updates? Appears Ethos is now at Release 1.2.1 RC1. Just making sure I won't miss anything by not downloading any of the previous updates. Also my Internal module is 1.4.0 FW 2.1.9 FCC. Guess I will need to bring that up to date as well. Thank you!
Thanks Brooks. Yes you should update the internal module too. However 1.2.x of ETHOS is currently a Release Candidate, or pre-release. You should stick to the latest stable release, which is 1.1.4. It looks like release candidates have been mislabelled as latest. They should be labelled as pre-release.
Hi, i've just got my X20S and its running firmware version 1.0.19, EU. I've had a look on Github but can't seem to find the updates you mention in the video.
Just use the latest 1.4.3 release. After that you can just use ETHOS Suite to do the update. Follow this process instead ua-cam.com/video/j_iAUkg6wao/v-deo.html
My X20S will go into Bootloader but when I plug in to my computers (Win 7 or Win 10) the X20s flashes between bootloader and usb plugged and will not show up on either computer ....help !
@@keiffy that will be a driver issue. In that case. I don’t know if a driver was or will be released. Official support for windows 7 ended over 2 years ago, when it was already over 10 years old. With the free upgrade path to Windows 10, a lot of companies don’t make drivers for Windows 7 for new products.
For the new transmitter modules? Not yet. To be honest, I don’t have any modules that would use those scripts currently. My Crossfire is full size. But hope to sort something out soon to make a video on these.
I'm very new to frsky and ethos. tried to update my firmware and bootloader on my x20 with no success. After trying for about 3 hours the radio can't be powered up! Battery is fully charged. when I press the power button nothing happens! The radio simply doesn't power up. Would you by chance know what happened? I've contacted Horus support team and still awaiting for their response. Appreciate your input. Thanks.
Hi Dennis. Sorry to hear about this. Unfortunately I don’t know what could have happened here. Maybe a bad flash of the bootloader? I hope HorusRC can get this fixed for you.
@@MrD I’ve fixed the problem thanks to your video. But now that everything’s up and about. I’m having issues with binding. My internal module is updated. The binding process is smooth and successful. But when I move the sticks nothing happens! I went to “outputs” to check movement. Nothing happening there too. So what do you think I’m missing? I’ve installed the latest version for my TD R10 receiver onto the radio. But I don’t know how to update the receiver from there. Someone said you can update the receiver from the radio. How? Thanks.
Awesome. I’m glad that problem is fixed. If there is no movement in the outputs, it sounds like the mixer is not set up correctly. If this is for a standard airplane, you should have mixes for ailerons, elevator, throttle, and rudder. Inside each of those, at the bottom, they should be mapped to an output channel. In this video, I show how to set up a basic model on ETHOS. So yo may spot what is missing there. ua-cam.com/video/Eq6JLaCkjP8/v-deo.html
Thanks for the help. On another topic. I don't know if this issue with the SR6 receiver has been discussed. I found the the gyro calibration 2 of the 6 steps are incorrect. I found that when instructed to place the receiver with the writing facing up the gyro would fail to calibrate. Also if the receiver was placed with the wring upside down it would fail to calibrate. I recalibrated the gyro having inverted the recommended receiver placement. When asked to place the receiver with the writing facing up I reversed it. With the wring placed upside down I reversed it. Calibration was successful. Has anyone else experienced this issue ? thanks
I’ve not tried the SR6 to be honest. I know with the R9 STAB the label is upside down compared to the SxR, SR8, and SR10 receivers. Maybe the SR6 is the same. The key is the side the pwm ports are on a the label.
I updated my X20 from 1.0.19 to 1.1.4 but did NOT download the audio file from 1.1.1. Everything seems normal, no missing sounds that I'm aware of but should I got back and put the new audio file on the SD card?
Hi Darren, I've just ordered my X20s and should arrive in the next few days. I see that version 1.1.1 is now out (23.2.22) will I need to download the items you highlighted in this video and install them once my x20s arrives? Also what SD card do you recommend as an upgrade from the one supplied? Enjoying your channel very much and glad I found it just brilliant information. I've also just become a patreon 😉
Hi Stu, yes, it will likely ship with an older version of ETHOS. So it would be worth updating. You may want to check the version of the RF module too, as there may be a newer version of that firmware. Thank you for the support on Patreon. It means a great deal.
Hi. Im totally confused. There is a new version on github 1.2.8. It is totally different to how its described on your video on what to download?? There is no Tandem sd card download and I am at a loss of what to download in order to update?? Can you help please. I have multiple radios but he only has the x20s as well do i. LIke wtf why cant i just do the 1.4.5 and do it without ethos suite ?Why have to put 5 different firmwares on just to get the latest makes no sense at all logically speaking.
Because you need a recent bootloader for it to work with ETHOS Suite. Your firmware is ancient, to be fair. It’s not even on GitHub anymore. ETHOS Suite didn’t exist until 1.2.0. You can install 1.4.15, then install the latest bootloader you can find, manually (luckily also 1.4.15). After that, you can use ETHOS Suite to do updates automatically. Make sure to take a backup before updating.

No worries. 1.1 is pretty nice. I still need to play with the LUA stuff though.
