When I look at Tramaine, I just get tears in my eyes. I loved her voice and when I was a little girl I would just stare at the album cover with her picture and I so admired her. We all know "our" history, no one seemed to appreciate us brown and chocolate sisters, so I looked up to her, I thought she was so beautiful and talented and she inspired me
Holy cow! That organ! Lynette with those eyelashes! What a woman! I was in LOVE with the Lynette and Tramaine for years. They gave so many of us Gospel singers something to look up too. Great memories.
Walter Hawkins music and his family has been my favorite for years and it's so inspiring and up lifting. I wish they could have did more songs. I still listen to it today. I love their music
I do too...I love there music ..my mom had the albums..an I would love to listen to them...the song when I think about ..I love that song but didn't understand it until I got older
I'm not sure if this live appearance of the Hawkins is a rare one or not but I LOVE seeing them singing some of my favorite gospel songs, in living color. They will always be among my favorite ministers of song.
This was a TOTAL treat...hearing the interview with Hugh Downs and Rev. Walter Hawkins..hearing Tramaine and Lynette sing their leads so beautifully...I admit my MOST favorite part was hearing Dr. Edwin play that introduction to "Be Grateful" especially when the camera panned in to watch those masterful fingers on Piano!! Thanks again Trevon...R.I.P. Dr. Edwin Reuben Hawkins 1943-2018 ♪♫♥♫♪♥
My top 5 artist and my #1 favorite female gospel singer- anointed, appointed, beautiful, and a fashion plate...Looooove her. Love the Hawkins Family group and the Hawkins Singers (I Happy Day, In my Father's House, etc) but I must admit I went to their concerts just to hear her and I always left encouraged not just only by her singing but her smile.
Hugh Downs before 20/20. Recognized the voice but took me a minute to remember... Haven’t heard Be Grateful for a while, it is so beautiful and different sounding
God morning,, I learned "He Brought Me" and sang it at our church " The New Holy Jerusalem Freeway Kingdom of Christ" with my brother and sisters in the 1970's. They're phenomenal.
I want to take this time and opportunity to thank the Lord for bringing me from a mighty long way. From the dungeons of 2 boys homes, then in the early eighties it was hard for me to keep and job. All through my twenties I had big gaps of employment. I did not go to college. But in 1989, after repenting of sin, then being baptized in Jesus name, then being filled with the precious Holy Ghost and speaking in tongues, I got on my knees and prayed to the Lord. I first went into courts with praise and thanksgiving, then, I asked the Lord to please have mercy on me and to please allow me to get a job. This would have to be a miracle because no one was calling me after filling out applications. But the Lord in his Mercy placed it on a managers heart of a governmental agency that I had applied to about 8 months earlier, to hire me. I have since retired from that job with a pension. I am so grateful and forever will Praise God continually for blessing me, for it was truly more than I could ask or think. Praise God!
I noticed they didn’t do any of their usual growling in their songs. Do you think it’s because of the older, white audience? Maybe they had to tone it down. I also noticed no drums.
The white man always finds a way to bring in politics etc you see how he strays from the gospel if Jesus Christ and the talents and platform God has given to this family for spreading Jesus through music. Obviously this family had a solid upbringing and is raising their children im the love of God. God told us not to worry... It is written... " WE ARE IN THE WORLD BUT NOT OF THE WORLD... PRAY for discernment.. Pray for racist pastors pray for the USA...
It was something to see the ascendancy of Walter as spokesman and leader. Despite his obvious youth he was so very articulate and thoughtful. Big ups to him as a precursor to what he would become. To have so much talent in one family and to add the mega star voice of Tramaine; wow!! Ministerially, Walter all ready was developing a more inclusive understanding of humanity; in particular humanity that was not in the church. He and Edwin are so, so missed. SHALOM
My mother always loved Tramaine Hawkins and thought she was one of the most beautiful women she has ever seen. She absolutely loved Tramaine's voice and could never get enough of hearing her sing gospel.
@2:34...Coincidentally Walter Hawkins and Hugh Downs died almost exactly 10 years apart in July. Walter passed 10 years before at age 61, and Hugh died a decade later at age 99, outliving Walter by 38 years. One can never knows how life would end or who will go first based on youth or apparent health.
Walter and Edwin both used relaxers back in the day and touched up with curling irons. Walter was also a hair stylist so they all had superb haircuts first then layering and feathering with a vent brush with a blow dryer was all the rage back then. They were always stylish and on top of fashion trends in every decade.
Tramaine personified black beauty.

This had to be taped in 1979. Walter mentioned The "Live" Recording in February. Indeed the Live Recording was taped Feb. 14-15th, 1980
This clip is directly from the television station so the year is accurate 1978 I cite my sources thanks.

Play Edwin!!!
Church women dressed so differently then
They dressed period....
@@divaslm1
Good thing they dressed. Otherwise, they'd be naked.
7:31 the answer to the question "why do bad things happen to good people?"
That is one fine chocolate sister..........
Sing Lynette
Interviewer was a weirdo...
Robyn Davis WEIRDO!!!!
I noticed they didn’t do any of their usual growling in their songs. Do you think it’s because of the older, white audience? Maybe they had to tone it down. I also noticed no drums.
Agreed. They definitely knew their audience and they enjoyed it as well.
No drums was still very common in most churches in those.

BMWDRE10 😆 He kinda looks like he could be on this clip, shoot Tremaine looks Indian
Lolololol
What did they use in their hair
Walter and Edwin both used relaxers back in the day and touched up with curling irons.
