For short period of time like 2 months for like 15$ it will get the job done pretty good and really apply spray every 2 months isn't really big deal.

Apart from the early failures most of the cheap and mid price sealants seem to have held on which is very fair and reasonable so well done to all those brands that deliver for the customer. Personally I use the seal n shine which is just hanging on after 6 months but I apply every 3 months as is cheap and only takes 10 minutes of pleasure to complete so videos like this give you confidence to buy and knowledge of which ones to avoid like a tsunami. I've been a CarPro Hydro2 user for years, love it, but based on this test there are products that last much longer. Meguairs ceramic wax, Mother's and Griot's 3n1 all in the $18 range and we're the best of the group. The only other two that did as well both cost north of $70. What a joke to spend that much money ($70 vs $18), I mean in order to make the high dollar products just equal to the others, they would have to last 2 years. It would be like seeing two new corvettes next to each other from two dealerships. One dealer sells off the actual sticker price of $69,000, and the other dealer adds it's dealer mark up and brings the price to $210,000.

weird though how the meguiars usually looses to seal and shine in most tests. i think seal and shine got good chemical resistance so always wins in tests but in real life its more prone to abrasian from snow, dirt etc so it probably doesnt perform as well. probably something which bonds is a bit better.

    • @nicksdragon6929
      @nicksdragon6929 3 роки тому +1

@@kingprone7846 yes I know what you mean. That is the one difficulty with this and all tests, none of them are perfect as a daily driver. Some tests like this one, aren't able to show any exposure or how they will react to chemicals contaminating the paint from everyday driving that stay on the surface until the car is washed 7 -14 days later. Chemicals like oil, gas, brake fluid, antifreeze, brake dust, rail dust, sand, salt, grease mixed with dirt, and so many others are normal in the highway environment. So are most cars garaged and not as exposed to climatic weather conditions or are they non-garaged daily drivers or garaged daily drivers and do they live near railroad tracks, drive on roads heavily traveled by 18 wheelers or only in limited areas in town or at or near an airport with heavy kerosene or other jet fuel derivatives? Do they park outside at work or under carport-type lots or in parking garages like I used to? So are they more affected by weather or chemicals. I like the tests where multiple panels of a car are coated on a daily driver that is not garaged. That's what I did to my wife's car. It has TLC2, AMP, TW ceramic spray coat, Ethos DEFY and Resist TW ceramic Pro-Flex Wax and Max Wax, TW SNS, Griots 3 n 1, Pearl Nano SpeedCoat with ceramic, 303 Graphene, Adam's ceramic, and then five coatings, Pearl Nano Pro with base, Armor IX, CarPro UK 3.0, Gyeon Can Coat and Adam's nanographene. I will finish this by April 7.

Next gen comment had me lol. I'd agree with the ones you picked. I just used griot's ceramic wash & coat on my truck that had an old coat of 3 in 1 but I applied it like their poly gloss, after I washed it with griot's brilliant shine. Didn't agitate, just let it dwell & rinsed. It did great, made the truck hydrophobic all over, especially where the 3 in 1 had weakened. I'm hoping to replace using their poly gloss in my washes because the ceramic wash is far cheaper & the benefits are a no brainer. Guess I'll find out how long the effects will last.

Wow. I did something I rarely do last summer and that was buy a ceramic wax/coating without doing any research. It was the Griot's 3 In 1. I was really happy with it last fall. We had an early snow when we took our boy up north Michigan to a hockey tournament. It ended up snowing quite a bit, It did not stick at all and it had been on for at least 3 months with several drive thru washes.
I figured I should probably do a little research to see what to use if I want to offer a ceramic coating like one of these when I detail cars in the warmer months. I was happy to see that Griot's has done quite well with your test and several other's tests. I think it does an excellent job for the price.

Exactly. If that was the absolute truth, Seal n Shine would last longer than diamonds! As we can see though, Griots 3 in 1 Ceramic Wax and Mothers CMX Ceramic Spray Wax and Megs Hybrid Ceramic Waxes out performs SnS in the real world, even if they aren’t nearly as chemically resistant. These are the best tests. This is mechanical resistance which is much more realistic, unless you wash your car in Citrol 266 or Purple Power.

The 3 in 1 spray is so easy to go on/off that I use it on my daily driver as often as possible, even if the paint is not always in perfect condition because it makes washing easier and keeps the cars cleaner longer in between washes - again, talking about daily drivers that are parked outside, not show cars.

My top 3 would #1 Megs Spray #2 Griots 3 in 1 and #3 IGL Premier.
I would call #3 a toss up between CMX and Premier, my biggest complaint with CMX is the "dandruff" which is super annoying and the fact it cant be used as a drying aid. Biggest complaint with Premier is the price, but application is super easy. The 3 in 1 is also a bit pricey compared to the others, but it also does the job of multiple products. Would be great for a "hand wax" type detail package, with added longevity.

    1. Mother's Ceramic Spray
    2. Meguiar's Hybrid Ceramix Wax Spray
    3. Griots 3 in 1 Ceramic
First two purely because of price to performance in this case scenario where the car would likely be well kept and possibly cleaned more than once a month with soaps that are safe to use on coatings. Assuming that the car is well kept and the first two have held up this well after 6 months without losing much performance and what is essentially a best-case scenario for these coatings I would assume a minimum of at least 3 to 4 months if not more in terms of how long it should last in real driving conditions (City, Highway, etc) with even a light wash once a week and a thorough cleaning once a month. If it were to hold up the three that I picked are insanely great value for the price and would pay for themselves over some of the more expensive brands. The other brands even though they perform well after 6 months and are more expensive would have to last a minimum of 2 years to justify the price in my eyes and at that point, you would have to ask yourself if it's more worth just adding a paint protectant film over continuously buying an expensive product if the goal is just to protect the paint.

I've been using the Hybrid Solutions Ceramic Wash and Wax. It has worked surprisingly well after the last wash in Oct and the next in March in PA winter. The beading was still good up top in March (but see later note). I like it because it's easy to apply and seems durable for the ease of application and price. Shame it doesn't foam at all, but it seems to feel lubricious.
However, I have yet to find any product that lasts more than a couple weeks on the lower half of the car even during the rest of the year. Road spray always strips away the products so that they no longer bead when wet. I usually need two goes on those areas with the HSW&W to fully restore the beading.
A static test is fine, but misses the blasting effect of spray.

My monthly or quarterly maintenance clients, I would use TW or Griot's 3 n 1 which is what I use on my own cars, because I top off my cars every quarter when I change the oil and top off fluids. I was also glad to see that your results with TLC2 were similar to mine because I've never been able to get more than 3-4 months and I bought a lot of it. I liked TLC2, but to put it bluntly, I was expecting more out of it after hearing their claims. But I need to use up what I bought, so I will use it only on my maintenance clients. I knew it was too expensive in the first place but I thought using a boutique product would add a little more "Benefit" when clients chose me over others, but I now no better, especially with so many products out there that out perform TLC2 at 1/3 the price or less.
