No, now thats like a feature, like its not ideal lock on target while using radar
It twitches but lock stays in the same place, so its just "graphic feature". Problem, only once Stormer worked as intended, and missile took proper auto lead as IRL, but they decided to fuck it since you didnt need to lead on targets, just aim crosshairs at enemy and darts were taking proper lead at their own. It was hard to miss anything then.
Now it had been nerfed on bogus data, claiming that "producent data are estimated too high".
And yet, producer of Vikhr stated that only 2 can be launched from Ka-50 at once or they will lose beam tracking and fly away wild, but ofc, that info wasnt considered important to them. So it can launch 12 of them at once.

The Stormer is pretty damn good at hitting targets before they even realize they're being shot at. It's also just much easier hitting people at 5-7km than 1km~
A tip for those who have trouble using the stormer: act like the missile is a guided APFSDS (which is basically what it is anyways) instead of your typical SAM
That's actually really helpful advice. I always have trouble hitting stuff with the stormer since the first 1-2 seconds the missile ignores the guidance
Stormer is just a lower br LOSAT
The "flying sticks" are greatly influenced by ping. High ping will makes the Stormer useless.

This is a hidden gem in the SPAA world, mostly because of the IRST lock. You can catch everyone off guard, unless they have a MAWR. I've had 10+ plane kill games with it.
Most of top spaa have IRST locks, ppl just dont use them. You can simply switch to it from radar lock. Simple as that, most of them are 8-10km locks, depends by vehicle.

I grinded so hard to get this, but I live too far away from any of the server regions and never get less than 240 ping, and it's completely unusable. Projectiles just phase through vehicles without hitting them

My favorite AA in the game. Very satisfying to hit things.
It juss very hard to hit at ranges lower than 2 km because it flies too fast. It's my go to vehicle if i have a task for shooting down air targets.

I just picked it up and it is the king of ka50 murder.
You lock them, they shit out their flares, you unlock and fire a missile as they slowly descend assuming they are safe. I also thwacked a drone

@@Foxik58 No it's well and truly nerfed into the ground. After they added missile inertia to the darts, it becomes impossible to hit a target travelling perpendicular to you under 2 km... unless you get VERY lucky like at @1:40
@@Foxik58 had a buddy test it out, first stage missile couldnt even kill an open top, for some reason it acts like a kinetic penetrator instead of exploding now so overpressure literally will never happen

I still have no idea why this doesn't just use a conventional HE warhead, it would be CHEAPER among other things

Because a 3 tungsten penetrators exploding within a target is far more lethal than a surface explosion or proximity explosion
A MANPAD (which is what a starstreak was designed as) can’t have a huge HE/frag warhead and proxy fuse because that would compromise portability.
The exploding submunitions are to maximise lethality without needing a big HE mass, meaning more space for fuel and guidance systems
I kind of get what you're saying, but at the same time, this system is extremely unique and not used anywhere else, cluing in to its possibly-needless complexity.
To be fair, you never said it was superior to traditional MANPAD systems.
I also don't remember hearing that the darts were tungsten penetrators, or guided like they are in WT. Correct me if I'm wrong but I remember being told the darts acted like flechettes out of a shotgun?
EDIT: Regardless, I'd bet Starstreak was an interim 'solution' to increase hit chance with the early, less accurate guidance systems of the time
@@gammafox5431 Ok. Theres a few things there
First off the Starstreak is a very modern piece of kit, it likely is very much superior to a lot of contemporary kit of that type. As such it having unique features isn’t really a sign that its meaninglessly complex unless it does nothing an older system could. An internal explosion after penetration is going to be much more lethal than a proximity blast or surface HE blast just by the nature of how an explosion dissipates its energy. (The blast wave contained within an enemy airframe will transfer much more energy to it vs a blast happening near or outside an airframe)
Keep in mind this system is central the the design and if a large number of engineers and defence personnel decided on it over a conventional warhead its hard to see it offering, at least on paper, no advantage.
The slugs themselves are hollow tungsten darts with an explosive filler and guidance system. 3 detach from the rocket booster once it finishes burning and they follow the laser to impact like an ATGM. Upon impact they penetrate the armour (WT is wrong, these darts have vastly more penetration ability than 50mm, the kinetics make 0 sense) then explode inside the target, producing a blast wave and very high velocity, hard and dense tungsten shrapnel.
I disagree with your final conclusion. Being such a marked departure from conventional MANPADS the darts are clearly central to the missile’s design. The very aerodynamic profile of the darts means more range and speed retention once the booster detaches and the ability to directly hit with any one of 3 darts flying close together has better lethality and retains a margin for error like a proxy fuse would otherwise do. Thats my opinion from public available stuff and my engineering knowledge
@@gammafox5431 When properly deployed it kinda is. Tbh its kinda ahead of its time, when we look on modern battlefield. It uses beam frequency/wavelength that dont alert most LWS and MWS and darts cannot be jammed, or cannot be lured away with thermal or radar decoys. Lets say it simple, its pricey and complicated (training wise), and its very very nasty thing to be shot with since it doesnt really give you any warning and it have enough energy to follow you to it max range making 9G jukes. Also every dart have explosive filler amounted to hand granade, it does the damage well enough ripping cables and destroying the machinery and structural integrity, that targets just fall apart in air being ripped from inside.
But as i said, its a bit ahead of its times.

max BR for Stormer is 9.7, he cant do anything on 10.3, its impossible to kill any plane, he can kill only helicopters
