  • Bike Packing South Africa : Swartberg Mountain Pass Adventure
    We are so excited to share this epic adventure with you! We set off from Oudtshoorn on our motorbikes to tackel the Swartberg mountain pass. The views along the way were absolutely breathtaking. From high above at the highest point at 1,875 meters above sea level on top of the Cederberg mountains to the Little Karoo valley far down below. We stopped for awesome views at the picnic sites overlooking the Klein Swartberg range, and enjoyed a picnic at the river crossing in the canyon down below. The winding roads through the Swartberg Nature Reserve tested our biking skills, but the sense of freedom riding through the mountains was absolutely priceless. I hope this video inspires you to start your own South African adventure! Hit subscribe and join us each week as we share more motorbike vlogs from around this beautiful country. Lets go!

    Enjoyed watching your video, because we have also just released our video of Swartberg Pass - unreal how different the pass looks doing it the other way around (we started from Prince Albert side). Was a great ride… On Their KTM’s

    considering you have done both now, which pass do you rate better seweweekspoort pass or swartberg pass :?

    • @thetravelingtortoises
      @thetravelingtortoises  Рік тому

      Seweweekspoort is easy, smooth and absolutely beautiful, perfect when you just want to do an easy enjoyable ride. But if you want to do some steep sections and more adrenalin then defenitly do Swartberg Pass (and add Die Hell to it as well, half way through the swartberg pass). But better still is to do them both, they are so close together!

    My fear of heights prevent me of doing passes like that - terrible. Wish I can get rid of it. Well done you two!!

      Just stick to the mountain side and look up. It sometimes are scary but the beauty out weights the fear. If it is really bad dont worry just ride along with us and we will do our best to show you the beauty of the area! 😁

    Choose your seasons before doing the Swartberg pass - it is often closed by snow in the winter. The Swartberg is my favourite pass, but you only had half the fun! Halfway up the Swartberg (or down it) you can turn off to Die Hel and the 30km ride down to the hidden Gamkaskloof valley over an amazing switchback pass. It's a cul-de-sac so you do the same 30km back out again but is equally magnificent in either direction and one of the very best passes in South Africa, suitable only for 4x4s and adventure bikes. Take the opportunity to overnight in one of the original farmhouses built by the pioneers a couple of centuries ago which are fully kitted out for a comfortable stay.

      Oo yes it sure can get cold there as well!! We happy we could do it before all the snow fell now.
