I heard of a woman who went from zero to six kids in the span of like two years because of this. If I recall correctly, she’d been trying to get pregnant for a long time, gave up, and applied to adopt. She adopted two or three kids that I think were siblings, then shortly after became pregnant with triplets. Not long after she gave birth she got pregnant again with twins or triplets. It’s funny how these things play out sometimes

Tbh, it’s tough. I sympathize w/Amy & Jake. Took almost a year for my wife & me for child #1, and we’re luckier than a lot of people. We didn’t go quite as scheduling crazy as Amy, but we did calendar it out, and watch what we ate, and I did change to boxers. It was work, but sooo worth it. Love this show & the realism within the humor. Very relatable.
I know of a couple that did all that for literal years to no success and now they have two! As corny as it sounds I think sometimes nature influences us. It’s kind of how like people who don’t want to lead are normally the best to lead. The parents that try and try (in my life experience and opinion) tend to be the best parents. Holt's perfect timing, Rosa and Boyle's crazy baby situation and Jake and Amy's struggling to even have one baby and do it at the right time. The writers of this show are geniuses.

The stress of it all can throw a wrench into the works, yes...but the couples who do this stuff irl aren't just "overthinking it""....in general they have already been more casually "trying" for a year or two, and doctors advise them to be more deliberate and careful. Some of them have already gone through a barrage of tests to determine if all the internal equipment is working correctly (mostly pretty simple if you're a man but some are more challenging and less pleasant as a woman) And it really can be hard for them to jump through all these fiery hoops, and then see other people conceive while barely trying.

For an example of the later, we now know that some of the time, a woman's body will essentially help block pregnancy from occuring because her immune system doesn't like something about his DNA... If so, they will have to boost their chances a lot to get past the goalie. Other times, they're not genetically very compatible, and the rates of pregnancy are lower/chances of early miscarriage are higher,possibly because their chances of producing a child with a series genetic/congenital problem are higher. And if either of them has a series autoimmune issue, it needs to be diagnosed and treated. That can make things a lot harder. But stress can definitely contribute. It's not uncommon for couples who tried very hard for years to conceive later when they're not trying, and the overall stress in their lives is lower... sometimes when they've adopted or are fostering a child!

My experience is the less you try to get pregnant, the more likely it happens. My wife was told that, due to her PCOS, it was unlikely that we would be able to conceive. So we adopted a dog. Then we moved to a new city and bought a house. Then she got pregnant - BAM - just like that and without any warning. Five years later, just as we started the process for adopting a human child (0/10 would NOT recommend), she got pregnant again! So, to recap, my wife couldn't get pregnant, and now we have two children and five grandchildren.

Four weeks ago, she gave birth to my TWIN grandsons. Her doctor said that the PCOS likely contributed to her releasing two eggs simultaneously and both getting fertilized and therefore - fraternal twins. So, no. Don't give up hope. I wish you the best. (And yes, my daughter is deliriously happy. Or that could be the lack of sleep!)

This is a true thing young couples should know. The more the woman gets stressed with conceiving, the harder it can get. So let’s just say this was me for the last 18 months. Scheduling, seeing doctors, avoiding alcohol etc just so i could conceive and it didn’t freaking work😂 I almost thought maybe I wasn’t meant to have kids and kinda just went back to my old habits only for the misses to tell me (just last week) that she’s six weeks pregnant😂😂😂 Imagine, after 18 failed months of stress and frustration, i honestly genuinely get how Amy feels. To make matters worse, everyone around me kept having babies and I’m even the Godparent of a few but thankfully, I’m about to have mine and all i can say is that I’m thankful. Update: She’s 14 weeks and 4 days gone.

Many people are mentioning how it's weird that people trying struggle and those that don't want don't. The main reason is because of age. The older you are, which is typically when people start planning to have kids, the harder it is because fertility rates drop dramatically. Meanwhile the age where most people are the most unstable is ironically the most fertile years of their life. It's one of those things that really point out how different life is in the modern era than they naturally were while we were just starting.

Many people are mentioning how it's weird that people trying struggle and those that don't want don't. The main reason is because of age. The older you are, which is typically when people start planning to have kids, the harder it is because fertility rates drop dramatically. Meanwhile the age where most people are the most unstable is ironically the most fertile years of their life. It's one of those things that really point out how different life is in the modern era than they naturally were while we were just starting.
