Guys I'm here to save anyone watching this video a ton of work. I am having to replace my ac compressor and while looking at everything I see the passenger side motor mount staring at me, 1998 150k miles mounts appear original so I'm like well while I got the compressor out might as well replace the motor mounts. Most of the stuff done in this video is not needed. 1. Jack up car at least the front end enough so you can get to the exhaust manifold bottom flange nuts. 2. Remove the three bottom exhaust manifold nuts from both sides 3. Remove bottom motor mount nuts while you are under there 4. Lower car but make sure you have a jack under the motor to support it/jack it up slightly if needed 5. Remove alternator 6. Remove both exhaust manifolds 7. Take the three bolts and the stud out of the ac compressor so you can move it around 8. Remove the two top nuts from both motor mounts 9. Jack motor ever so slightly to remove pressure from the motor mounts 10. Remove bolts from motor mount brackets to the block both sides 11. Remove both motor mounts and mount to block brackets 12. Reverse the above. No need to mess with intake manifold or any suspension components or the subframe ect. Like a 1.5 hour job....
Good grief Charlie Brown! Chris, I just watched this. All I can say is, you da man. This is something I'm not even going to attemp. When the time comes it's going to the vette specialist here in Gainesville. Learned so much from you. Did enjoy the video.
AWESOME video Chris! I can't believe how much dismantling has to be done to change the motor mounts! Thank you for the inspiration to do it myself... Thoroughly enjoyed it Brother... Thumbs up from me as usual... Stay safe... Rico
I recently acquired a c5 so this is all new to me. I had a c3 pretty much nothing I couldn’t fix. Can you just drop the engine cradle to change the mounts?
Is it just me or did I not see the part where he took the top bolts off I’m swapping my motor and I can’t figure out how to get it out got every other one loose
I feel like it would have been easier to jack the car up and support on fr/rr cradles, remove/unbolt headers from block to gain room and simply support motor with a jack. Keeps you from removing all of your front suspension and then needing alignment. Or a MUCH easier approach I found is here for anyone reading this (not my video): ua-cam.com/video/kaZ8uwg8GUw/v-deo.html
@@mycorvettelife that’s a shame, I went with Hinson polyurethane mounts back in November and mine shook real bad before, the oem mounts seemed almost new which was a surprise but with the new poly mounts no shaking at all, even with my aggressive idle. I went the route of removing the headers off the car and pulling them out from the top, seemed much easier than lowering the frame.
I know I've asked this before and you supplied it..but I was dumb and didn't write it down, now I can't find the video again to copy the info. Could you tell me your wide body and tire rim and breaks setup again? I want to put those on my 02 C5
I need to change my A/C Compressor out in my '99 as it leaks freon out of the body of the compressor. I saw a video here on You Tube where someone claimed they were able to just loosen the passenger side motor mount to jack the motor up enough to get the A/C Compressor out without pulling the water pump. Has anyone else attempted to do that on your C5? Just curious being I planned on doing this job during this cooler weather but have a few other things in the way as of the moment. I read on the Corvette Forum where others said they did the same. I am guessing before I even start the job that I can probably just loosen the bottom nut of the Passenger Side motor mount and stick a piece of 2x4 on a floor jack under the motor and lift it up enough to get the compressor out. Any thoughts by anyone? Being Chris was talking about motor mounts here I thought I would bring this up. Hope you don't mine Chris. Just gave you some thought for another Video. Don't know if you did one on replacing your A/C Compressor in a C5.
im sure youve already done this by now but i was able to remove the compressor by removing the water pump and its pretty simple quick and easy. also i replaced the case orings on my compressor as it leaked there and its been fine ever since,
Nice job on the video Big job

I posted a vid of replacing motor mounts. Similar train of thought.
Your videos have been so helpful for me on my corvette. Thanks.

🤣 I don’t blame you.
Wow, thank you for doing that. Your a brave man. Such patience. There is where I lose. Sure admire your patience. Great job .
Steve
You lost me at doing this myself in the first five minutes 😂. I could, but just don’t want to.
Nice work Chris!!!
🙏🏻
Awesome job man
Much respect for doing that yourself. Great vlog as always!!!

would have been nice to see a before and after of the engine running
Good job, Chris!
Thanks Chris I really appreciate the step by step and since I have 136000 on my C5 I think I should buy a set just in case🤓
would you spend the extra money to get high performance motor mounts?
No
@@mycorvettelife ...I did.......what a pain in the butt to put on....BUT will never go bad.............JB........
Cheers to a great job Chris!
Awesome Chris more information for the c5 library best videos , Thank you
Hey i just got a c5 and mine shafts like this, looks stock. Did you ever find a solution ? Do you have a cam in there ?
Good job ,gracias amigo God Bless you.
Great Video I would have to take mine to a shop but thanks for the info now I would know what to look for if they did a good job or not.
Great info. I think I will give this job to my mechanic but now I at least know what is involved.
Great job, Chris...not looking forward to doing this on my C5, but this certainly helps!
If ever needed I’ll take my Vette to my favorite mechanic and have him call when it’s finished. 👍
Great job, props for tackling this yourself. No way i have the confidence to do this lol

You need to raise the engine off the cradle.
Damn AC Delco...part made in Korea.😑
Not a job for this DIYer. I'd never get the thing put back together right. Great how to once again Chris.
I personally would never attempt that myself, but still get very informative and useful.
Sort of a C5 anatomy class.
Yeah the mechanic is doing that job for me when time comes lol
Is it just me or did I not see the part where he took the top bolts off I’m swapping my motor and I can’t figure out how to get it out got every other one loose
Wondering what else could have been replaced as long as that much disassesmbly was involved.
A lot.....more videos coming soon.
For sure I would have done the oil pressure sending unit relocation and cleaned out the AC condensation drain tube
Just wrap some tape around the rear two bolts so they don't slide back down. And the intake will come right off.

Ha, my buddy just linked me this comment. Thanks for sharing my Video!
So how did the car feel afterwards?
Hey I have an aggressive cam in my C5 and the motor shakes just like yours in the beginning on the video. Did the new OEM mounts make a difference?
No

Everything you need is in the Mods List in the description below the video.

Chris, why remove the fuel rail? My intake comes off without pulling the rail, with no problem.
I suppose you don’t “need” to, just undo the fuel lines.
Looks pretty normal to me
Why do you have to take all that off? Just shove a ratchet down there and loosen them and get them out
The way I drive my 2004 Vette the motor mounts will last the life of the car. Never driven my car to destroy itself. Thanks
OMG that is a terrible procedure... I should have did it when I installed my headers...
