Southern Railway 630 pulls the 21st Century Steam excursion "The Lexington Limited" between Lexington Kentucky and Onidea Tennessee in early June 2014.
I rode the train to Oneida on Saturday. It was hard getting shots of the train so I am glad you filmed it. Saturday evening, the cops in Lexington ran everyone off before we could get pictures of the steamer. They used two cop cars to push the crowd back. Bad PR for the cops.
The Bridge at Burnside is one of my favourite locations. I saw it at night as I was on a road trip. I hope that 611 and 765 get their turns. 765 in particular hasn't done the Rathole since 1982. I understand that 630 is limited to 7 of those coaches on her own and that 8 is 4501's limit both of the loco require assistance.
HEP in this instance is actually provided by the generator car on the very rear end of the train. The diesels are along for the ride to provide back up in case the steam engine develops a problem (the rathole division is an extremely busy mainline). The diesels also provide dynamic brakes to keep the train under control on the steeps grades in southern Kentucky.

In many of those shots you were not too far away from many of the old tunnels that gave the rathole it's name.

Interesting, are the SD-40's providing HEP for the consist? They sound like they are at more than just idle.
