My name is Matt Male, I live in the UK, in north Warwickshire, not too far from Bosworth.
This is a channel devoted to wargaming of all kinds, from smaller games like Bolt Action and Barons War, to the larger battles of Hail Caesar and Black Powder.
I'm interested in lots of periods, Wars of the Roses, Early Medieval, WWII, Franco-Prussian War and Napoleonics.
Expect rules discussions, painting and modelling, and possibly some battle reports (although I'm a bit lax with those).
Please like and subscribe.

Project Review: The Wars of the Roses armies. What's in the boxes...?
I was just wondering how much stuff I had for The Wars of the Roses, how many bases, models and retinues and for which Lords. After the last video I decided to get them all out and have a look, partly because I'd forgotten, but also so I can add a bit more this year, what with Warlord's new supplement coming out and a renewed interest.

Hobby Update: The last project of 2024. Romano-British for Midgard or Hail Caesar.
Переглядів 23212 годин тому
My Victrix Roman-British built for either Midgard or Hail Caesar or any other early medieval rule sets. I completed these at the end of the week before last, so they were my last project for 2024. I do quote from Mark Morris' book - The Anglo-Saxons. I didn't make that clear in the video www.amazon.co.uk/Anglo-Saxons-History-Beginnings-England/dp/152915698X?crid=4QMFSMA7TT4H&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.oe...
Hobby Update: Projects for 2025 and a quick tour of the BattleMatt hobby space

Hi everyone, Happy New Year. I'm as nosey as the next person and I love seeing how others organise their hobby and hobby spaces, so I thought I'd do a tour of my room before we start getting into 2025. Hope you enjoy!
Something different: Warhammer 40K 10th Edition

Something different from me, a palate cleanser after the Greeks and Persians. Some Warhammer Salamanders from the Leviathan box that came out last year (I think).

Ancient Wargaming: Greeks and Persians

So here are the poster boys of the ancient Greek world, the Spartans. Not historically accurate modelling, but I like the way they look this way. Plus some missile support, Greek slingers and Thracian Peltasts.
Ancient Wargaming: Corinthian Greeks for Greek-Persian Wars.
Переглядів 813 місяці тому
A few more Greeks from Victrix. This time I did some Corinthians. I've used a slightly different helment just to differentiate them from the Athenians and painted them blue because the symbol of Corinth is a white pegasus on a light blue background. Good for the Corinthian Wars against Athens and also for Greek-Persian Wars.
Project Update: Victrix Romans and Celts, ancient armies.

I just thought I'd lay out my Roman and Celt/Britons intended for wars in the 2nd and 3rd century AD in ancient Britain and let you take a look at them. I did these a few months ago and mainly used them for historical Warlords of Erehwon, Barons' War and some SAGA, but not really done a full pitched battle yet. All are Victrix 28mm, which are my favourite manufacturer of Romans and Celts in pla...

I've done a few more Hoplites, decided on Athens at first with a mixture of colours and shield designs. Next step will be some Corintians and some Spartans and add auxilery troops. #wargaming #hailcaesar #history
Project Update: The Greek-Persian Wars, starting my Victrix Hoplites
Переглядів 3986 місяців тому
So... after 'finishing' my Austrians, we leap back in time to the Greeks and their arguments with the Persians, taking advantage of a massive army deal I bought into from Victrix a couple of years ago and which I was waiting for an opportunity to start. This will run through the summer, amongst other things because I might dip into other stuff. I'll check in from time to time with updates and s...
Hobby Update: Napoleonic Wars. Pt.8 Finally Finished... for now.
Переглядів 5586 місяців тому
So, that's it, I've completed 600pts of Austrians for Black Powder. Hope you've enjoyed the journey I've been on over the last three months or so with my first Napoleonic army. Must say I've really enjoyed it, so it won't be my last. I have a load of Piano Wargames Bavarian to get cracking on next...

I hope you've enjoyed this journey with me. I'm nearly at the end of three months of painting my first Napoleonics army ready for Under Eagles To Glory in a few weeks time.
Hobby Update: Napoleonic Wars. Pt.6 Chavauxleger
Переглядів 7887 місяців тому
Today a quick update on my next unit for my Austrian army, the Chavauxleger. As far as I'm aware, remember I'm a Napoleonic newbie, these are similar to light dragoons in their use on the battlefield and are probably considered light dragoons in effect.
Hobby Update: Napoleonic Wars. Pt.5 Cuirassiers
Переглядів 3348 місяців тому
Today we move on to some cavalry for my Austrian army, starting with the heavy horse the Cuirassiers. Unlike many people I actually quite enjoy painting horses, which is a good job because I've got a lot to paint over the next few weeks...
Hobby Update: Napoleonic Wars. Pt.4 Hungarian Grenadiers
Переглядів 6118 місяців тому
My first battalion of Hungarian Grenadiers to join my Hungarian line battalion. Without doubt the Hungarians are my favourite units in the Austrian army and I have enjoyed painting all of them. Miniatures are from Piano Wargames. They are superb and I am tempted to get a 3D printer so I can start printing all of them. pianowargames.de/

A beautiful collection!
@@mitchsminis thanks Mitch much appreciated.
Awesome figures and great explanation of how the army composition was decided.
Cheers Aled
Looking awesome Matt...
good collection i need cases like that😂
A great collection, just 12:17 a small problem.... too many Lancastrians lol
I agree, need to even up the odds...
@BattleMatt no ... that means you'd be adding Lancastrian troops ...10 - 1 is needed to beat the sons of York....
Stunning collection mate
Thanks. It's probably just getting started compared to some though. 🙂
Now that is a fab video 📹 you got me thinking of a new project 😮😂
Thanks John. My work here is done. 😁
Nice tour and update Matt. Looking forward to seeing more of those nasty Austrians!
That's an impressive collection you have there! Shame Really Useful Boxes don't have a loyalty card 😆
I know. I wished I'd bought shares before beuying all the boxes.
Cracking update and hobby room tour @BattleMatt! Loved the setup, I wish i had a dedicated room for hobby!
In 1788 Austria had 6 regiments of chevaulegeres, in 1791 were 7. In 1798 the seven chevauleger regiments were renamed to light dragoons but few months later they became dragoons. In 1801-1802, five light dragoon regiments and a newly formed dragoon regiment became chevaulegeres....!!
Thanks John, just digging these out again as I start to learn the Soliders of Napoleon rules.
Super helpful
Thank you.
I used to buy these as a kid in the late 80s and early 90s. There was a shop near my school and I would spend my savings on those lead figurines. I remember there were expensive back then.
Great painting
I'm doing something pretty similar at the moment Matt. After weeks of painting Zulus and Landsknechts, I needed something a bit different to paint so I'm currently repainting and rebasing an old Space Marine army to use in Grimdark Future. Really enjoyable change of pace.
Very nice Matt. Try Xenos Rampant alongside 40k for a different game experience with same models.
Thanks Paul, I'll take a look.
What's not to like? Superb details, shields...and presentation!
Thanks Phil.
I love the look of Spartans with Corinthian helmets. Great job!
Get some cavalry fool!
They're excellent, keep up the great work
Most impressive shields, faces...and superb paint job, congrats!
Thanks Phil
SUperb Spartans, Greeks, shields...and I do dlike your slingers, great poses and paint job... 😍😍👍👍
They've come up really well. I've got boxes of unassembled Victrix figures of this era. Impressed to with your basing and how well you've done to give them bigger scale but you've done so discretely. Time for me to get assembling and painting.
Thanks Peter. It's probably more luck than judgement, it worked and I stuck with it.
These guys look truly superb
Beautiful work. Very envious of your ability to choose colours that work. I'm a terrible painter, so thanks for the insights.
nice work matt, they look great :)
We play at 48 points a side, works well with certain house rules
The cannon should be ochre or “yellow”
Thank you
How did you manage to make the shields without transfer seams? show the technique
I'll do some more this week and post it.
Why weren’t the edges of the linothorax painted?
I felt like that was a bit beyond my skill. I will have a try though on the next lot.
Carnyx is a instrument used by the Celts during the Iron Age
That's the one, makes a horrendous sound to scare the enemy.
Two corking looking forces there Matt, fantastic work :D
Thanks Ste
Andreas Hofer was a messed up anti vaxxer and religious fanatic
Great stuff, keep it up!
Where is this can i join lol
Absolutely cracking project mate. Wiil watch with interest.
Looking good Matt. Just a thought perhaps use the club for the Theban Sacred Band and then give the bog Standard Hopkites different shield designs.
Looking great!
Great looking armies Matt.
Great looking figures and impressed how quickly the project is being done :)
Must admit I completed these before starting the Greeks, even I'm not as fast as Dom...
They all look excellent, great work mate
Thank you
Great looking project!
Thanks Mitch
Figures are looking awesome and enjoy the holiday:)
Thanks Aled, just got back...
Cracking sounding project and looking forward to seeing how it develops over the summer :)
Great work! Keen to see how this unfolds. Victix do Spartan and Theban LBMS decals on their website. Battle Flag do a sheet of Athenean decals as well as Spartan and several sheets of 'mixed' designs. Carthage Must Be Destroyed also has some excellent mixed decals on his Etsy store if you are looking to mix things up a little. Also if you can get a few of the mixed Warlord decal sets you could pick and choose the relevant decals for the city state you are focusing on at the time. Personally other than Sparta I'm planning on a few ;themed; decals for each state with mixed shields thereafter ;-) Best of luck!
Lovely work mate
Splendid figures and first class shield designs...Excellent work!👍👍
Great progress - love the shields!
Thats one epic looking project piled up there Matt, looking forward to seeing what you get upto with it!
Cheers mate. I spent some free time at work researching Greek wars all week, so another rabbit hole...
