    Dan, i've been using Loopback for the past few months over Lockdown etc for remote teaching and it's been a lifesaver, I'm glad you have found it too!!!

    I can only imagine that most, if not all of us, have created "solutions" to problems we ran into with the recording/composing process. Like driving a junky car and only you know how to start it or jimmy the door open or get the radio to work. So actual, thoughtful, solutions like this are really very helpful. Thanks, Dan.
    There are days when I wonder how I ever managed to teach myself any of the ins and outs of Cubase and all its related workings--audio, recording, editing, vsts, midi, programming, mixing, mastering, routing, exporting, etc... Sometimes, a pat on the back is in order haha.

    It always amazes me that what seems like a simple task is so complex underneath!
    I’ve only had to do this recently, and I idiotically shrugged it off as a bit of a simple task...
    This looks like a great solution; thanks as always for sharing, Dan.

      Thanks for your support, Wesley! It looks like there are opensource ways to achieve a similar thing but this is certainly pain free!

    This is a great tutorial.... We've been struggling with this at Spitfire for years, until Paul built his studio ALL walkthroughs were DA AD degraded in the manner Dan describes. Paul and myself now have dedicated laptops with soundcards with ADAT interfaces that record just three signals: stereo out from computer, and voice over direct via analogue. It is an INSANELY expensive and in-elegant way of doing things! One Q Dan, how is stability?

      Thanks mate! I used it yesterday to record my Abbey Road ONE composition - no issues whatsoever!

      I've been using Loopback since March (and the first lockdown) started to route audio to Zoom and OBS, but also in the manner Dan suggests, for capturing screencasts from Logic. Loopback is very stable. I've not had a single issue, and I use it more or less daily. I've also found it to be software that is very easy to setup and maintain. (It's ease of use is one of its great virtues and why it is worth the money even if there are also free alternatives that will serve.)

      For music, as long as it makes workflow easier and especially helping with getting demos ready mid-project, then it’s €99 well-spent!

    Thank you, Dan... I did purchase the Loopback and the AS Timer. Thanks so much for the info. In regards to this review, I have the exact same setup as you (I think...lol). I'm using Screenflow 9, Keyscape, Logic but I'm using Kontakt through Logic. When following your review, everything works well, however, in the review you do not mention or discuss Screenflow. I was wondering if you could share the config including Screenflow in the mix...Thanks!

    You're a great teacher. I'm trying to solve a live streaming latency issue when singing to music. I've researched and tested for days. Different browsers (Brave, Chrome), different software / apps (Ecamm/Streamyard), I'm using an M50 Mark II with an elgato capture card plugged in to an M1 Mac Mini, Rode Pod mic with SE dynamite going into Komplete Audio 6 interface. After watching your video, I'm wondering if loopback is the solution I need? If so, how can I contact you and pay you for assistance to virtually get this up for me?

    Wow, very nice video!!! Clear.. but I have one question. I want to record (with Ecamm) my piano and voice playing. I use Kontakt with piano software and now I want to have a better sound effect like reverb on my podcaster microphone. So.. is the solution to use a DAW like logic pro x or garage band (and use Plugins) to make this effects and with loopback I get the sound into Ecamm? Thank you so much! 🙏🏻 Greetings from Berlin, Katrin

    Hello dan, do you think that composing from stand alone instruments , with this method into audio in a DAW, results in better quality sound from the instrument, instead of loading it as an instrument track in a DAW?

    Dan, do you use the same configuration when screencasting, or previews your cues in Logic ...? and if so, how are you configuring loopback in that layout...?

    • @DanKeenMusic
      @DanKeenMusic  Рік тому +1

      At that time, I would use Loopback as an input to Pro Tools and have that running in the background but I realised that wasn’t necessary as Screenflow allows you to split individual audio tracks. So I actually use Screenflow as my audio recorder now - with Loopback

    I have been using loopback but i cant tell if there is latency trying to play guitar to music live on stream this way. Is there any latency that way ?

  • @redlester

    My UAD Apollo 8 gives me virtual audio channels without requiring any additional software. It costs an awful lot more than Loopback though!

      Ooh that sounds like a helpful feature. Some of the newer interfaces have iPad apps for adjusting gain levels which sounds useful for recording yourself!

    I have a question: I'm thinking of buying Logic Pro X and upgrading from GarageBand. However, how long do you think it will be until logic 11- I don't want to spend £200 and then.spend it again.

    • @DanKeenMusic

      Good question! I asked the same thing in 2015. I think, given the new silicon macs and the updates to logic that are being brought out, I imagine logic will be on version X for at least the next 2 or 3 years

    • @starboundexplorer508
      @starboundexplorer508 Рік тому

      Apple changed the name from Logic Pro X to just Logic Pro. So it looks like its just going to be 200 for the lifetime of the product. They have really increased development as Ableton Live made waves the past couple years. However Ableton will charge you for an "update"... Which is a no no.. I paid 700-800 USD in late 2019 for Ableton 10 suite and then in Feb, 2021 they charged another 200 for Ableton 11. Which added scales and some other fluff.. Now I can't really recommend Ableton. I even contacted Ableton Support and asked for a free update since I had such a short time with version 10 before the release - which they told me I would indeed get a free "upgrade" but when the time came they did not honor... The fact that I had to ask for a free "upgrade" is the problem. With apple I've never been charged an update/upgrade for any of their native software. I've used Logic Pro for over 10 years

    I'm a fan of Dan's videos, but I have some reservations about this. These days a good number of audio interfaces have loopback built in. I can start recording my computer's audio with a single touch on my interface's touchscreen. Having tested Rogue Amoeba's software, I think that a potential buyer should have a clear idea of what they'll use it for and how it will benefit them over alternatives. I'd also suggest reading what Rogue Amoeba's manual says about the requirement to downgrade Mac security and about aggregating audio devices. Note also that Loopback 2 is five years old this fall. Loopback 3 and an upgrade charge (currently $50 to go from version 1 to version 2) may not be far off. In general, I'd advise someone in the market for a new interface to spend another US$100 there than on buying loopback software.

      If one can find a second-hand interface with S/PDIF in and out ports, running a S/PDIF cable between the two ports will likely do the trick. Note that S/PDIF is purely digital. The signal does not involve any digital/analogue conversion.
      People making UA-cam or presentation videos might look into Screenflow. It records computer audio, and the user manual says that it can record sound from individual apps and separate them into clips.

      Thanks for your comment Rory. When I posted this video, I was working with an interface that was already 8 years old and didn't have the built in loopback functionality that you're describing. I still use Loopback for all of my videos, and find it works beautifully for what I need it for, but there are definitely other cheaper solutions now

    Soundflower dont work anymore.
    The reason is for me that it is no more supported on new Mac OS.
    Loopback costs 118 Dollar: but i look for a free App.
    How to record mac internal Sound in Logic?
    (example: Firefox plays sound -> Logic records that sound)

    This seems an awfully long-winded way to do it. I manage it by using iShow U Audio Capture (free) and a virtual Multi-Output device set up in Mac's "Audio MIDI Setup" app. I just add my iShow U channels and my audio interface to the virtual Multi Output and route any audio from DAWs / Desktop etc to the Multi Out.

      So why didn't you compare those "many ways" that are free or come with MacOS? Why only compare the $100 Loopback with expensive hardware and say it's BEST?

    • @dafingaz
      @dafingaz 3 роки тому +1

      @@wecology I took it to mean the best way for him. Similar to how someone might say Logic is the best DAW. Whenever I hear someone say something like that, I just add (in my mind) that it’s best for that person. 🙏🏾
