  • In this video, I demonstrate why you need the power of Loopback from Rogue Amoeba. It gives you incredibly flexible control over how audio is routed around your Mac and between applications and is fully M1 compatible.
    DISCOUNT CODE - bit.ly/loopback2021 - 15% Off (valid until Dec 31st 2021)
    Apologies for the length of this video. I could have given a quick overview of features but you could get that from the Rogue Amoeba website. I wanted to fully run through an actual use case and explain what I was doing. I'm not sure I did the best job but I hope it helps.

    07:42 - Using Loopback with my RME Fireface
    12:03 - Creating a Virtual Output
    15:16 - Final Thoughts
    Loopback uses the Audio Capture Engine (also developed by Rogue Amoeba) which allows macOS to route audio from a specific process ID to anywhere else.
    "ACE provides an API for applications to create virtual CoreAudio capture devices, which then pull in the desired audio. For example, ACE can be used to programmatically create a capture device pulling audio from a running instance of VLC. Any audio that VLC produces will show up as audio input from the virtual capture device. The audio can then be read and processed by your application, using entirely standard CoreAudio APIs." (Rogue Amoeba Website)
    Thanks for watching and please let me know if you have any questions.
    Note: I purchased the software demonstrated here. This is not an advert. It's an appreciation for a nicely designed and very useful piece of software. I contacted Rogue Amoeba after I bought the software to ask if they could give me a discount code for my viewers.

    Word to the wise ... I use loopback all the time and it's awesome. HOWEVER - it is incompatible with the Zoom Audio Device.
    Let me explain. If you are sharing a video over a Zoom call and want to share the sound then Zoom will expect you to check the "share system audio" option. This enables an audio capture driver from Zoom called the Zoom Audio Device. The Zoom Audio Device competes with loopback and causes weird (read bad) things to happen. The solution is very simple - don't use the Zoom audio device. Instead make sure your video player is routed, using loopback, to the virtual audio device you are using for Zoom. This will achieve the desired result without issues and has the added benefit that you can control the volume of the video on the Zoom call using loopback.

    Made more sense but also brought questions. I have a device that pretty much has auto loop back with no way of turning it off I ’m trying to play music on stream and have it not be recorded (OBS) but since my audio interface picks up the music and loops it back it ends up as the same source for both my voice and the music 😅 your last option gave me some hope will try looping back and changing the output in tidal

    I'm interested in this software because I'm hoping it can solve an issue I'm having and wanted to get your input to see if it may do so.
    I'm helping out for a church service and what we want to do is to get the zoom audio going from our macbook, out to a mixer. The macbook is connected to the mixer via a cable that goes from the headphone jack to the mixer itself.
    What I would like from this software is to make it so that only the audio coming from a specific application (could be zoom, could be OBS, etc.) goes out through the headphone jack and nothing else. Do you know if this is possible to do? Can you route an application audio to the headphone jack and mute all other audio?
    Hope that makes sense. Not an expert at any of this so trying to wrap my head around it.

    Hey man, great video.
    My question is: I'm trying to record a mixing video. I have a mix bus set in logic pro x going to the stereo out (ive made my outputs for logic 5&6) my mix bus then has a send going to 3&4 which i have applied vsx on the channel strip i use it for mixing. When i record with obs, i just want it to hear output 5&6 i dont want it to record the 3&4 output that in using in logic to listen to myself with vsx on. Im not sure how to achieve this

    • @tdcattech

      I've used this with streaming and, although I wouldn't want to monitor a mic through that latency, it works absolutely fine. Just take the mic straight off your desk or pre-processing.

    Is there an app or a device that allows me to send 3 signals over Bluetooth? It’s for playing backing tracks but nowadays I play them over L and R. L instruments R click track
    But I would like to have L and R only for the music (stereo) and the 3rd signal for click but everything wireless now i do it with an Scarlett interface but wired
    😅

    Is this the software i need to route a live streaming audio track from something like soundcloud direct into my DAW ( such as logic and Cubase ) on my Mac ?

    • @tdcattech
      @tdcattech  2 роки тому

      Yes, this would definitely work. There are a few ways you could do this. One simple way would be to route all audio from your browser (Safari, in my case) into a virtual input device and then use that as your input in Logic. If you're only looking to record, you could also do this using Audio Hijack - ua-cam.com/video/TevFMhfEJDI/v-deo.html - and then bring the files into your DAW.

    How to route digigrid wsg to loopback

    • @tdcattech
      @tdcattech  2 роки тому

      Depends what you want to do but just add the DiGiGrid as an input device and route to an output channel. That will create a virtual input. I'm guessing though as I've never used a DiGiGrid product.

    • @tdcattech
      @tdcattech  Рік тому

      Really? I think it's a bargain. Well made, easy to use, reliable, well supported, regularly updated and most importantly very powerful. If you need this, it's an absolute steal.

    • @istvankiraly9841
      @istvankiraly9841 Рік тому

      @@tdcattech It may be ok for really simple tasks, but it is not well made, not reliable, and if you point out the issues for the support, the answers are useless. It even makes the whole system unstable. Free opensource alternatives exist which may give less features but more stability. I had to uninstall loopback completly to gain back system stability.
      With all that considered, it is very expensive. ....

    Hi Torsten. Im just worried about making the Mac vulnerable - the kernel extensions comment made me nervous. I just want to screen record in Quicktime but Monterey, with audio - but I understand Apple have disabled the option to screen record with audio. Rogue came up in my search. Basically, what I'm asking is... can I trust this software won't crash my computer and run off with all my secure and private data? Have you had any issues?
    Thank you

    • @tdcattech
      @tdcattech  2 роки тому

      I know, it sounds bad but it’s totally safe. I have to open kernel extensions for my RME soundcard too. It’s just needed for some more advanced use cases. I’ve used Loopback everyday since this video was made and have had no issues. That said, and I have to say this, you make these changes at your own risk and not on my recommendation 👍🏻

      I have the exact same question. Did you go ahead with it? Are there any issues so far?

    • @istvankiraly9841
      @istvankiraly9841 Рік тому

      @@edithreverie9607 Yes there are major issues. When using multichannel audio with many channels, even your best CPU will go downhill. Other apps can do screen recording with audio without kernel extensions. OBS Studio would be my first choice. I had to uninstall loopback, as it has really significant issues, and the support just basically said "well sorry, that's how the implementation is."
