It was not a mistake, it was a teaching moment
Exactly!
Such a helpful and clear video for me as a beginner knitter, thank you! I have made 2 pairs of socks so far and had chosen to live with some errors as I was in fear of undoing more than just a few stitches. No more. I will be unravelling in confidence with this, now bookmarked, video. I am a new viewer to your channel and am already 'hooked' ❤
I liked this fix it tutorial especially because I'm trying to dedicate this year to fixing finished projects. I've actually done this to fix my own socks and I've also lengthened a sweater I knit that was a bit too short. My most recent wasn't exactly a fix but a whole frogging and knit a whole new sweater. Never be afraid to rip back to fix if it means you'll love it more!
Any fixing booboos tutorial is always helpful and appreciated. Thank you, Natalie, for showing us that...
A) mistakes happen to everyone and...
B) mistakes ARE & CAN be corrected with a little patience and perseverance.

This is so helpful. There’s nothing that terrifies me more than having to rip out my knitting. 😅
Thanks for the lesson! I need to take fix a pair of socks that are too short for my husband.
Thank you for this video. I hope you will do more videos like this provided you must make corrections.
It’s great watching an actual repair on a wip and not a swatch. Btw I love the color of the yarn.
Natalie, this is a fantastic video. You shared many tips that I know will come in handy. Thank you :)
I started knitting 1 month ago (I’ve crocheted for 10+ years) and chose socks as my first project! Today I realized that I had 1 extra stitch in my toe decrease… 14 rows and my first proper double points life line later, I realized I added another stitch in the foot 🤣
In all seriousness, thank you for the thorough tutorial! It genuinely helped me as a beginner knitter and I’m really glad I know this in case I need it for sock #2 💖
Oh gosh I still find extra stitches ALL the time and I’ve knit hundreds of socks 😅😅 I love that you dove into sock knitting without fear and you’re already fixing your mistakes!!! That is awesome!
I'm so glad you did this tutorial! I ALWAYS get off track on my rows, but then I make it such an ordeal to get them back on track--major over compensation, like tinking entire rows. So the way you isolated the "guilty" stitches and fixed the rows only to point where you can start knitting again feels like a game changer to me. And even putting your marker through 1.5 stitches is also helpful. I put it through one leg, but then it's sometimes hard to tell what row it's on when it starts to sag. Thank you so much!
Yes! It doesn’t feel as bad when you can use your needles as a lifeline. So happy to have helped!
This was such good company as I untangled yarn barf!
Gah sorry about that!
Thankyou that was a great tutorial as I hate having to frog knitting compared to crochet as it is so much harder. You made this more simple.
Happy to help!
I'm not much of a knitter (more crocheter) but still super cool especially if I decide to try pick up knitting in the future 😊 thank you
Aww of course!
Really great tutorial ~ thank you for sharing xx
Thank you‼️
What great timing! 😂 I've been procrastinating fixing a sock. I'm on my second ever pair of socks, first time I'm doing an afterthought heel, and I think I made that heel too short, it sits weird on my foot. But the length seems right-ish? So I think I have to redo the heel to add a few rows to it and probably then redo the toe to make it git better overall. It felt daunting to do as I'm a sock newbie, so this tutorial is giving me the confidence boost I need to get to it and stop procrastinating if I want pretty socks. Thank you!
Perfect timing!! Yes, you can do a similar thing to what I show here. It’s been a minute since I’ve made an afterthought heel, but I think they typically start with 3 or so rows of stockinette before the decreases. You could even play with adding a second plain row between decrease rows to start before decreasing every other row to finish.
Thank you - very helpful.
Happy to help!
Not gonna lie. With how impatient I am, I ***may*** consider foot shortening surgery as an easier (in my book) surgery 😂😅
