Just found you, thanks to UA-cam algorithms. Thanks for sharing your review and excellent photography. I just got Hazel Soan's "Art of the Limited Palette" and it is awesome, but not for beginners. Blackwell's has it the cheapest and has free shipping. She has a long interview about it on UA-cam. Thanks again!

Hazel Soan is great. I have a different book from her and may do a review of it in the future. Thanks for watching and take care.

I bought this on Ebay before I learned to paint. Three years later I'm still looking at it in different ways. Excellent choice! I always like book reviews on light and color.

Interesting that you bought it before learning to paint. Like you, each time I read it I get different things from it. Thank you for watching! :)

    Good afternoon, :)
Thank you very much for sharing! I agree, those paintings look wonderful.
I have several vintage art books that I keep on my bookshelf for inspiration.
Your color swatch page is perfect and so is your book review.

You just about reproduced those exercises identically to the author, well done! Great review! I'll have to check to see if I already have that one. -Bought a ton of used watercolor books from an estate sale and haven't finished cataloging them. Thanks for the video! Who are some of your other inspirations? (Love to see those in a future video someday!) 🎨

It’s a great book, definitely worth picking up if you don’t have it in your collection. My other inspirations are Charles Reid, Jean Haines, and Marc Taro Holmes. I will be doing some more book reviews in the future. Thank you for watching and for taking the time to post a comment! :)

I enjoy looking at watercolor books and I have bought some books for beginners and borrowed books from the library. My problem is I enjoy looking at the pictures but I do not enjoy reading the instructions. I’m very much a visual learner. Some of my paintings from the beginner books have been very good, but they were good only because I had already learned quite a lot from YT videos and I quickly understood the concepts and techniques being taught in the books. 😊

Very true about visual learning. Some things are better learned through visual instruction. Myself, I tend to prefer both written and visual though. Thanks for posting Shadow Guard!

I appreciate your thoughtful and insightful review. Yes, I agree it’s important to make time and do the demos. Good point. I’m curious if you’ve read and your thoughts on “Capturing Light in Watercolor” by Marilyn Simandle and any books by Charles Reid?

I haven’t read the Simandle book yet but I have several books and videos by Charles Reid and he is one of my all time favorites. Cheers!
