I worked in Boggo Rd and Before that in Sir David Longlands. Nathan was in Both Prisons. Nathan Was always pleasant to talk too. But When He went off Run! lol! He used steroids before he went to prison - His own parents wanted Him to be a 'Super Athlete!'. I made the mistake of asking him about body building (assuming he was a body builder - as He was ripped not an ounce of bodyfat). He quickly corrected me and said that He was a Power Lifter and also Held Australian Titles (it was the consensus of other Officers this was true). There were special protocols in place specifically for Nathan. He would just snap standard handcuffs (if they were able to fit around his wrists). Had to wear Handcuffs that were specially made for Him. Also, the prison had a stun gun that had been approved only for use with him. One riot at Boggo Rd in the mess hall there were prisoners that did not participate but all sat together against the wall. Nathan was one of them. At Boggo Rd on another occasion, A prison officer forgot to Unlock Nathan's cell door (during the day all prisoners would have to vacate their cells and spend the day in the Yard). Well He go upset, somehow he managed to get His big digits in the top corner of the steel reinforced door and pry the corner of that door down and was sticking his head out talking to the officers!. When He was in Sir David Longlands Prison he was housed in 'B Block - 2B' (Minimum security) I locked Him up for the night. After locking all the prisoners up you had to walk back and do a visual headcount to make sure they were in their cell. The door had a viewing window, I came to Nathans cell and could not see Him! I was trying to look in all the cell through the viewing window and Nothing!!! I yelled out Nathan! Nathan! It was then Nathan bent down with His head to the other side of the window and asked 'Are you alright Boss?' It was then that I realised He had his shirt off and I was looking at area of His body just below His Pecs! I was looking at Him all the time! I am 5'11 102kg and I looked like a child beside Him! One thing about Nathan was that He was a softly spoken gentle giant and He was not a liar. If he said He chest pressed 350kg i believe him! It may have been in a prison Gym he did this! He used to train with Other Giant lads inside as well! I really wish Him well in whatever he does!

I used to work for a bloke who was head screw of the prison Nathan was in, he told me some crazy stories about some of the things Nathan got up to inside.
He said most of the time he was really well behaved and got along with everyone.
One thing that used to set him off was if he didn’t get the amount of food he wanted, the general population got a portion of something like a quarter chicken plus sides, Nathan had to have a whole chook to be satisfied, if he didn’t get it he’d go into a rage and literally kick the door off his cell.
Apparently there was a stage where he was being a bit of a bully and there was a bloke in there who was a good boxer, only a smallish fella around 70 kg or so, anyway this bloke had enough of him one day and gave him a proper hiding and he mellowed out and behaved himself from then on.

I'm from Brisbane in Queensland Australia and from a powerlifting background. I remember hearing about Nathan while he was still in prison. All the guys in Boggo Road could talk about was this guy they all called "The Colossus of Boggo Road". At first I thought they were exaggerating . . I mean: come on, six feet ten? Couldn't be real. Then I saw him on TV in a strongman competition which he won convincingly. Probably that Australia's Strongest Man that you mentioned. The guys in the jail simply couldn't believe how strong he was, even before he began lifting weights in the prison gym. I never met him because I had retired long before he came on the scene. But after watching this video I suspect Nathan's major problem would have been the lack of a decent manager. Also, at his height he wasn't heavy enough for a career in either Powerlifting or Strongman. Genetically he resembles Hafthor Bjornson and Thor had to weigh 400 pounds or more to be a legitimate contender for WSM. That's where a good manager-coach could have helped him. Consistency and perseverance are the keys to being a truly successful strength athlete.

He appeared in a Jackie Chan movie before he did Troy. I lived on the Gold Coast and back in the day the biggest urban legend told whenever Nathan's name was mentioned was that he was put in lock up one night for brawling at a night club but whilst incarcerated at the police station he tore his cell bars out of their concrete moorings and had to be subdued by every policeman in the station. True story? Unlikely, but all young lads told it.
It was also said that he often defeated groups of men in street fights and that he could defeat any adult in a fight by the age of 12😆
Someone would always claim that they'd seen Nathan walking down the Gold Coast's Cavill Avenue on a Friday or Saturday night which was at least somewhat likely.
I'm just 6'4" and at my heaviest weighed 112kilo, a pipsqueak compared to Nathan but people told tall tales about little old me so I can easily imagine that most stories from those days about Nate were BS.

Iirc I saw a comment section of something he posted once saying 250 kg Bench, and likely what he meant. He had just been saying two other numbers, starting with a 3 for his Dl, and SQ, which both sounded realistic for his bodyweight. 250kg Bench would be congruent with that. If it was 315 kg it would have had to have been with a shirt. Considering how long his arms were 250kg in a shirt, considering the quality of the shirts in the mid 90's weren't that crazy yet, that also could be what he meant. Raw powerlifting really didn't come to replace the equipped stuff in massive popularity until Stan Efferding became world champion a decade ago.

Maybe 230 to 240 kg raw touch and go I would believe. Realistically, I would question all 3 of his lift and 220 kg behind the neck press as well if it was only 180 kg in that video. 350 kg bench is definitely 100% not true.

My dad used to be roommates with nathan years ago before he got huge. nathan was a skinny teen living in the same unit with my dad and they'd frequently have arm wrestles. hed always try and beat my dad but he kept losing so he kept working out. my dad would always be out at work and nathan would either be working out or eating all of the food in the fridge which was an obvious inconvenience for my dad. nathan turned out to be a pretty shitty room mate. he stole money and car parts from my dad and eventually got kicked out. my dad forced him out and he was wimping on the doorstep. later on nathan broke back in to steal more parts . i forgot what happened exactly after that besides nathan getting up to more crime.

But in his mid to late 20s, training hard and full of gear he might have managed the occasional spectacular one-off.

I remember watching that competition on tv, was brutal to see it live. Not long after that, arm wrestling was no longer part of the competition. He was definitely huge though. Magnus definitely looked smaller and he’s huge himself. Magnus wasn’t at his biggest then though.

he made 3 reps of maybe half way down
he was around 100 kgs at the time and is 5 foot 8
he was around 30 years old at the time
other than that, I know plenty of guys who go to the gym, but, personally, no one who was that strong before or after
after a back op he could only bench 125kgs
