There's balls and there's madness. The way his both of his legs entirely buckled was SICKENING. That's the most horrific injury I've seen in any sport.
It's hilarious how people complain about sumo deadlifts even though it's been a part of powerlifting for so many decades. Here's an athlete demonstrating sumo deadlifts and how to do it in 1983 at 10:09. People use a sumo stance to pick up furniture too.
It changes nothing though😂 just because it’s old doesn’t mean it’s less cheating? It’s a different lift just admit it, everyone who tried both knows it
@@mac5917 It's not cheating if it's allowed. People have and will use sumo stances to pick up objects like furniture because it's better for them. Same applies with conventional. Sumo deadlifts are for life. Powerlifting is not for you.
Believe me its not a SUMO debate per se Its the use of extra long thin deadlift bars .I can prove this because no one complaied when Bridges or Coan broke record after record with sumo deadlift . All lifts were done Ultra stiff 29mm powerbar.
you are right, in the early years I couldn't find footage that included women but I could've included more female legends of the sport in the following years
This video took a lot of time to make, please consider leaving a *like* and *subscribing* to the channel! ❤

It really means a lot! 🙌❤️
2:19 Ouch!!! 😫
The announcer called it, definitely an unwise attempt. But damn the guy got some huge balls!

I was not prepared for that Paul Jordon clip near the start of the video.
Paul Jordan was an epic lifter.
Knew him in Perth in the late 80s. Nice guy and doesn't deserve the weak comments he's copped over the years.
Paul Jordan’s 1977 injury reminds me of Ed Coan’s 2002 injury which reminds me of Alexander Sedykh’s 2020 injury…and I have squats tomorrow morning 💀
damn 😵💫
Make sure to use safety pins
😂😊😂
Imagine there was a time a national network would broadcast something like this.

sniffle
That's how Paul Anderson did it back in the 50s/60s too. So sumo predates powerlifting by a few decades

cut out the sumo cancer. it looks ridiculous

Amazing video
It definately deserves a like!
I been waiting for a video like this so many time, thank you i love you
Really good video, enjoyed it a lot!
🙌🙏
Fred Hatfield in 1983 at 8:47, is 41 years old there squatting 815lbs, not bad for what would be considered "past your prime", kudos to him :-)
Yes, it was a picture-perfect squat as well. Great tempo down and up.
I remember seeing this live on TV, and Paul Jordan taking that unfortunate squat lift 😊
Thanks for not warning us about the blonde powerlifter getting injured at 1977 worlds. That was painful to watch
My fault 😔
Fun fact: Paul Jordan continued competing and two years after this injury he won the 1979 British championships with a 860kg total 🤯
Gonna cry little snowflake?
glad i read your comment on top so i could skip that part 😅 can't stand watching people get injured
Grow a pair, maybe 🤔🤷🏾
Not only my man did not warn, but gave us a juicy slow motion so we can have this image while squatting.
No Ed Coan? L IPF
The future is bright
Great documentary
thank you!
The quality of tv back then ! I kept getting up to adjust my rabbit ears.
the incredible history of a great power sport 💪💪💪👍 glory to the pioneers👏👏👏
🙌🙌🤝
Noone:
1977 Powerlifting worlds: RAAAAAAARGHHHAG AAAAAAAA YEEEAAAHHHH
😭😂
So 1995 is when they started doing that over exaggerated arch on the bench press
The greatest
Never saw Mark Henry anywhere...
Indian Powerlifters are struggling without the Ministry's affiliation to the Association.
Larry Pacifico made the best noises.
seen that before and still think who the F was his coaches telling him maybe you didnt squat a ton, but maybe you can get 2 tons...go for it.
For some reason this doesn't have audio
в 2024 90% поднимают так же как 77

Ego lifting is worse than drugs. Lift what you know you can lift. That’s just too much weight to be playing with like that.
Okay, but that obviates the entire point of powerlifting.
301👍🏋️♂️💪

And nothing of john haack? He is the goat
I think this video was for tested, not untested.
Paul Jordan with his mouth wide open was never gonna get that lift. Know way to brace his core.
7:12 midget power lifting needs a comeback.
Who in the hell cut their hair and thought it was a good idea.
Still of tha Night 😂knew tha 💩 was 2 heavy
Дерање вриштање продакшн !🤣
Nice video but it’s pretty obvious this was made by an ipf natty fan. I don’t say that in a negative way but where is ed coan, Dan bell, etc?
why so few women in this video?
you are right, in the early years I couldn't find footage that included women but I could've included more female legends of the sport in the following years
Nothing new under the sun.. people now try to reinvent the wheel with RPE training
Just hit your 10s 8s 5s 3s and 2s and you’ll get stronger

Probably a little smaller after he fell on them.
