As an indie animator, I'm *SO GLAD* that you made animation a separate genre in this video. Animation sometimes isn't appreciated enough in these times and are just thrown to the side as "for kids." But when I saw you make animation a separate genre in this video, I was so glad that animation finally got represented. *CLARIFICATION* What I mean by animation not being appreciated enough, I'm talking about companies like Disney or Netflix, not people. Sorry for the misconception. Also yes, I do know that animation is a medium.
My personal favorite series ever is how to train your dragon. Something about all the dragons the beautyful animation and the tiny little deatails like the scales on a dragon. It just feels so good and fun to watch. The comedy is good and the storys are incredible. Truely one of the moves ever made.
Little correction: animation is not a genre! It's a medium of art all in itself! A lot of people happen to make this mistake, but animation and live-action movies are distinct things with their own sub-categories and genres, despite both being cinema!
Joeseppi actually loving animation and describing the appeal perfectly is amazing. It truly made my day. This video was incredibly heartfelt and just too good. Thank you for making this!
I remember in an art photography and film class I asked if we were going to cover animation. My professor laughed at me. It sucks that animation still has a terrible stigma about being childish when at its core animation is just a beautiful combination of all three genres…
"Nothing is more awkward than when the movie cracks a joke and the whole theater is silent". we always used to watch the horrible histories movie in history class and they would crack a joke and the only person you would hear laughing would be the teacher going "hahahahuhhuhh*sigh**loses the will*
If Joeseppi were a horror protagonist, I can picture him saying, "He's standing right behind me, isn't he?" and then pulling out a baseball bat from his pants to take down the antagonist
But just before striking the antagonist, he realises its actually his evil twin brother. He then slowly lowers the bat and says "this... This isnt you..." and then his evil twin breaks down in tears and reveals that he was only bad because he was bullied for being different. Joseppi would then tell his evil twin that being different is what makes us human and they would live happily ever after
Tragic endings in romance have to be one of my favorites, like it just sticks with you and you're wondering what could've happened if that didn't happen
You got it easy with Scream scaring you out of watching horror movies. I had the same experience, but for me it was Rec (the original Spanish version) when the old woman suddenly bites the neck of one of the officers. I was taking peaks at it while playing WoW as my dad and his gf was watching it and after that scene I remember just sweating and trying to avoid looking at the TV (it also helped that I didn't know Spanish so I had no clue what anyone was saying after that). After that I had nightmares for months and a big fear of zombies for years. It also didn't help that around the same time I randomly caught the beginning of Shaun of the Dead airing on TV and oh boy. I'm fine watching Shaun of the Dead now, but kid me immediately switched it off when Shaun and Ed were dealing with Mary.
Joeseppi is a well-versed movie enthusiast, and this video, along with his review on the cinematic masterpiece, Hoodwinked, shows his articulate appreciation in cinema.
I love horror movies, ESPECIALLY psychological horror. I love twists, 'is what tue main character experiences actually real or in their head, not as it seems'. I think Fantasy/Sci-Fi and Animation are NOT genres on their own - they're settings, a frame for the picture which is made up by the plot. After all you can have Fantasy-Action, a Sci-Fi-Comedy, or an animated Romance, but all the things that define them are merely there to give the viewer a rough idea of what to expect from the world the movie takes place in, not from the movie itself. These "genres" can't stand on their own (they'd be nothing more than a documentary without the other genres) and therefor shouldn't count as genres. I also liked that he said that horror movie bored him - I can totally relate. I used to call them "bad comedies". Also, he showed it only for 1 second or so, but the Spongebob movies are the best comedies that I know.
