For me the story was far better than what i could expect with intrigues, conquest, vengeance and twists. The execution was rushed and bad. Because lucius motivations keep changing, the gladiator uprising is rushed, the final battle where everyone suddenly believes this random nobody is the emperor'son
The first film had a deep spiritual element and conveyed heartbreak and bereavement so deeply that it hurt. At the same time, Russell Crowe led an ensemble masterclass and every frame of every scene is memorable. …Follow that ?!!
Ridley Scott should of kept the original actor Spencer Treat Clark to play Lucius, I understand he wanted a younger actor to play the role, but I felt it wasn't the same without the original actor
Good video articulating the fundamental flaws with what could have been an epic sequel. I was sadly disappointed watching this in the cinema and actually fell asleep in the last 20mins. Wasted opportunity. You hit the nail on the head - "It tried way too hard"
Look people, the movie was an inaccurate portrayal of history weaving a fictional moral tale into a corrupt age of empire. We got a lavish glimpse of ancient Rome that was simply entertainment. I was entertained & it was just indulgent fun. I am still shocked Ridley Scott can still lead such a huge project. I also miss the films of his brother Tony Scott, who gave us an insight into the potental of cinema as the nexus of cinematic technique enhancing emotion.
