Smashing Rev Limiter in a 223 MPH RUF CTR!

- Опубліковано 5 жов 2024
- Dream status: achieved. The Autofocus crew visits one of Germany's finest car manufacturers: Ruf Automobile. Yep, the creators of the legendary Yellowbird Nurburgring stormer, and other rear-engined madness. So what do we do when they hand us the keys to a brand new CTR? Smash that rev limiter, of course.

Favorite car from today’s episode of AutoFocus, go!
I have to say NA all the way.
Ruf is an amazing company
If I had the money I would buy all three.
The Yellowbird
The Ctr2 without a doubt
Shout out to "ROOF" for letting us drive Porsche in Gran Turismo as kids.
William O'Leary real talk. I pronounced it as “Rough” my entire life. My life is a lie... TT~TT
One of my favorite cars to drive in GT
Exactly what I was thinking brotha!! After the newest GT game I feel like the RUF was a better car for the game 😅
They really were some of the best cars in the game. Polyphony Digital captured the dynamics of the rear engine cars, and the engine sounds very well for the time.
This was how I was introduced to RUF. These cars were so sick in that game.
All of the above...
Most of us learned to "drift" in the Yellow Bird Im sure. It would slide turn one on HighSpeed Ring at top speed.
As a PROUD owner of a Ruf RT12, thank you for showcasing this wonderful manufacturer. So many people have no clue how special the vehicles are. I visited my car's birthplace a few years ago on a visit and it was the absolute highlight of the trip.
One of the most under represented brands here in the United States. RUF
Welcome To The Madness seriously, if it weren’t for gran turismo, nobody besides Porsche guys would know, their cars are absolutely incredible
@@jrew3569 every racing series not owned by EA*
yes I would love to own one. Just gotta believe!
It's because that yellowbird is $800,000 and they made 30. With 9 billon cars on the road, you have better odds getting eaten by a shark than seeing one😂
@@easley421 It's possible to see almost any car in Switzerland ;) Luckily we are landlocked, so I'm far more likely to see a RUF driven by some rich guy than getting eaten by a shark :D
I'll never forget seeing three RUF's at a gas station once as a kid and losing my mind because I knew them from Gran Turismo. Haven't seen one since.
The people at Ruf must not watch the Hoonigans if they're letting you guys drive those cars
Seriously though.
Or they do and noticed Hert wasn't there and figured you boys wouldn't scumbag it that hard
But they also see the pure passion Larry and Vin have. Larry's giddiness is over the top on this one.
Thanks for taking us along on your journey. You're allowing so many people to see cars and manufacturers, they probably never knew existed.
@@TheHoonigans maybe they do, and they're just the coolest car builders ever😎 Mrs. Ruf looks like she can throw one of those things sideways. Lol
Larry: It feels so natural.
Vin: You've drove it 4 feet.
This had me dying.
JakeTheLittleSnake you can tell that quick with cars that are that good. I drove cars from the back lot of the shop I worked at to the front and could tell. It was about 50 yards
@@Hole_Motorsports Ok and? I was commenting on the fact I thought Vinny's sarcastic answer to Larry's statement was funny, not that he was wrong.
JakeTheLittleSnake lmao & 100ty like
sjpro1 you can’t tell how a car feels by driving 4ft lmao
David Stevenson you can get a pretty good sense driving one 50 yards. Just the way the clutch and steering feel is enough
Some Ruf trivia:
-There is a dealership on the front of the building, and they sell a lot of non-Ruf cars
-Ruf has used the same mechanical dyno for... a very long time
-Ruf built the first 16,17,18, and 19" wheels
-Ruf restores Porsche's of all types
-Alois' favorite chassis was (may still be) the Boxter. It is the easiest Porsche to distribute weight to 50/50.
Cool! Thanks.
Mrs. RUF is amazing, much respect to that lady, she’s genuinely into the craft💕
Estonia Ruf finally answered a question I’ve had for years but never had an answer for. I always wondered why the original 1980’s prototype Ruf CTR “Yellow Bird” had the NACA ducts in the rear fenders but none of the production cars had them. Turns out that she said that the ducts didn’t work correctly and that’s why they were left off the production cars.
I can just listen to her talking about those stories all day long.
Ryan they created an aero of low pressure above them, meaning little to no air actually ended up being drawn in
They ended up drawing air out instead of in
“Carbon fiber ruf” as he slaps the floor, it took me a second to realize he didnt mean roof lmao
The legendary Yellow Bird. I remember the first time a came across that monster in Gran Turismo 4, and it was glorious.
still glorious my friend, still a bad ass car, name a car that old that still an icon
I remember that I imagined I was driving Porsche not RUF lol 😂 Maximus Gameplay
They let them drive because Larry was the responsible party!
Awesome video! I've enjoyed this series so much.
I met Alois almost 16 years ago on a factory invite - it was my wife's birthday, which I never get to live down. The first R Turbo was parked outside the garage, and Alois took a friend for a ride. A GT3 followed. After a spirited drive, Alois put his hand up toward the rear view mirror and waved at the GT3. The R Turbo pulled away from 175mph to (very fast for B roads), and the GT3 lost its luster with me at that moment. Ruf does amazing things to cars.
I love how Vin questions why would RUF let them drive their cars and Larry gives the Hoonigans access to these rad cars with some credibility.
what
@@justanotheryoutubeuploader its stated why they are allowed to drive the car before the joke about "why would they let us"
Only people who didn’t play video games in the 90s and 2000s don’t know who RUF is.
Gran Tourismo 2
That damn yellow bird was so tempting with it's power numbers, but it didn't handle for shit lol
Forza horizon
Nfs undercover
Gambler 500 RUF CTR (Twin Turbo)/Boxer
The YellowBird has been a hero of mine forever but wow, that red SCR just sounds and looks amazing. _Amazing._
Can we please have Sydney blast down the road playing that techno music from Super Troopers in his Porsche 🤘🏼😂
Mark Chaves Jr bidibodi bidibu 👍🏻
I just want to hear him say "who wants a mustache ride?"
Sidney Industries (his company) has their own UA-cam-Channel.
Check it out.
WOH WOH
Holy crap yes your a genius bro!!!🤘🏻😎
7:57 No suspension components on mien Porsche is OEM. I also fitted chassis bracing. So stiff and it lifts a wheel coming off driveways just like this. I wanted a yellow Porsche ever since I read about the Ruf Yellow Bird reaching 211MPH in a Road & Track Fastest Cars Shootout Special in 1988. As of ten years ago, I achived my goal. Awesome. I love Ruf. Thank you for entertaining and sharing.
All that on narrow German back roads. You guys really do have the best job in the world
Watching this almost makes me cry for real. The passion and attention to perfection touches my gear head heart.
A day without Hoonigan is a day without sunshine 💪
Agreed.
See the SA FLAG ON THE ROOF ❤ representing my country there
A day without a buzz is like a day that never was.
Its really nice seeing actual car guys put videos out. I hate listening to the driving impressions of people who clearly don't get what cars are about. Nice work, this was rad.
Mrs. Ruf is the best. What passion and knowledge! 😍
Oh man, this is awesome, I love how Ms. Ruf just seems so passionate and so proud of what they accomplished, these are truly amazing cars! Loving the content with Vin and Larry!
Well i learned ive been saying RUF wrong..
Knowledge is power!
Ruff lol
I pronounced Ruf as Rough...
I've always pronounced it " roof "
You, me, and Every person I ever talked Porsche talk with!
What people don´t know, Mrs Ruf is a faaast driver. thank you to Ruf for allowing this video. Love the pride in her eyes!
I was literally just drooling over the 2017 CTR page on RUF’s website when I got this notification
You guys were very lucky! Driving multiple cars is beyond imagination. Wow! How nice and considerate of RUF. Thank you for this production. G.
10:18 That's a very special sound. That's the sound of a properly tuned-up Porsche, modified in ways that the actual Porsche factory never did. Thank you for filming that.
8:50 is another wonderful sound.
The only thing that comes close, is the sound of Porsches rally racing.
RUF’s are basically Porsches turned up beyond 11.
more like over 9000
RUF is an actuall Car Manufacturer... Those are not Porsche anymore.
@@Chris-kh2vi it has still 911 character. in my opinion it is right to say that it is Porsche turned up to beyond 11.
in the end, manufacture status just because of legal reasons. in other countries the company would be defined as a tuner.
i don't care how they are called, porsche is great, ruf is great.
Christian Faust
They are but heres the catch, Porsche sells them non pinned chassis's to build on and give them their own vin numbers.
They use Porsche chassis still though.
@@@Chris-kh2vi
Of course they are 100% Porsches. Same concept and cars. Just more power.
I have literally never been more jealous of Larry and Vin.
RUF to me is the most iconic automotive aftermarket brand ever. I had a RUF "Yellow Bird" poster on my wall as a child.
Discovered RUF cars via one of the early Gran Turismo games. Loved them ever since. Bet you guys won’t forget that day ever.
Autofocus is the best Hoonigan content coming out right now. So cool to see amazing cars and the European countryside and Larry all in one episode. Fantastic stuff guys.
“You drove it 4ft...”
So much respect for companies that are still makiing hand built cars. Race cars are for a purpose but these beauties are a different breed B-)
10:43 - 10:50
Experience of driving a RUF described without words :D
I absolutely love the ruf yellowbird. It’s easily my top 5 favorite cars of all time
Vargas and Hert, Vin and Larry, Dan and Brad together are always fun to watch
I love how the guy went from a RWB hat to a RUF at the end.
Love RUF. I remember being introduced to RUF on Gran Turismo 3 on PS2. So sick.
Evan Tatusko they had RUF on horizon?
You captured absolute respect and joy for a custom manufacturer. Well done!
AutoFocus is super well produced. Easily my favorite new content. Well done Larry and Hoonigans!
Vin is a nice guy but he needs to stop cutting people off
Domineering
THIS IS THE BEST Video Hoonigan has released to date in my opinion .Period. Just saying .
Thanks Hoonigan for the great quality content!
Firstly what an awesome channel. The Porsche 911 T been cleaned by the Sidney has the South African flag on its roof!.. Very Cool. The Yellow Bird was tested by Road and Track in 1987 as part of a mega test featuring some of the fasted cars in the world at the time.
And smoked them all with a top speed of 211mph
South Africa represent on the GT3 roof
It's because Sidney has South-African ancestry.
Represent!
Saw that too 👌🏼
aweh 👌
Ma se kind
Loving HOONIGAN. It says a whole lot about how far HOONIGAN has grown n how much love n Respect Larry has world wide to be able to rock up late n still get handed the keys to 3 amazing cars n touring the place with the owners wife... LEGENDs Full Send U.K.
thank you gran turismo for letting us know about the ctr for the last 15 years.... when i hear people ask many years ago why they dont put the porsche dealer in gran turismo... i always tell them its because everybody know the porsche but not everybody know about CTR and how cool it is
GT is a school.
Damn, if I only knew you were there 😭😭😭
RUF is a 15 min drive from my place and the small village is like 8 minutes 🤦🤦🤦🤦
A lot of people don’t realize that the new CTR isn’t a 911 that’s been modified by Ruf like most of their other cars. It’s a completely new ground up design featuring a carbon fiber monocoque that’s made to look like a 911. It is truly a new car designed and built by Ruf.
Talk about a dream machine built with passion
Yellowbird, Ctr2, Ctr3 and Rt12 R are my fav cars from Ruf. They're super rare!.
@ 7:57: That CTR2 is so stinking stiff, it lifts a front wheel when they pull out of that driveway. I can't remember what car it was but there was a 90's supercar that was tuned by a company and they showed off the chassis improvements by doing something similar they pulled it over shallow gutter of some kind and the car the pulled two wheels off the ground. Ruf is easily the most underrated tuner on the planet.
This brings back some childhood memories, I had this huge poster of CTR on my bedroom wall when I was a kid in the 80s
Mrs. Ruf, what a class act.
We need more Vin-Chen Adventures like this 👌
الحمدلله على السمع والأبصار والأفئدة
Alhamdullilah for sight, hearing and heart.
These old Porsche are the most beautiful cars ever produced, from whichever angle you look at them.
Just something about that old NA that pushes all the right buttons; loving the hell outta this series!
That moment when you’ve been on the clock for three hours and your boss walks in, looks you dead in the eye, and asks “is that a CTR?”... yep, I could get used to this office
Can I just say Sidney is Savage for rocking a RWB hat in RUF respect.
This is the best car channel on youtube
CTR II is on another level !!! What a car!!!
I love the high production quality of AF. Amazing episode with beautiful shots. Waiting for the thoughts of driving on the Autobahn too.
Nice to see ruf and you got to drive some cars that's special
RUF are very nice people to let you drive these cars, lucky guys!
Vin asked great question perfect person to have in Germany with Larry !!
Autofocus is quickly becoming my favorite show on Hoonigan.
One of the best old school, new schools
loving this series, hoonigan has been killing it recently
yellowbird, wow, that was a long time ago, but still super awesome
the wheels on the yellow bird are awesome!!
Holy shit you guys are lucky! Yellow Bird?!?? Truly epic. A+
I am subbed to about 200 car channels and binge watch alot....to me THIS is one of the best vids of 2018 contentwise . Damn i love the CTR2...
I had a ride in the actuall Yellow Bird all the way back in 1988 :-)
Lucky duck!
Really digging this series
What a great video guys! Livin’ the dream 😎
Thank you for coming to UA-cam you goddamn geniuses. Thank you.
Rock, paper, scissors to determine who goes on these trips? These series where the guys head out to other countries are amazing!
This is really the best show you've made thus far! even the music selection is soooo on point, keep it up guys! :D
this series is awesome!
you could see how excited larry was lol he was having the most fun
I think I like this video more than anything you guys have done. Looks like fun!
They set his cap on 🔥 RUF
one of the best car show ever
You guys have the sickest job
RUF ftw. Also RT12S.
Wow this is a once in a lifetime opportunity
The green 356 is my favourite. Gutted you didn't do more on that. Love 356
Larry chen is a genius! Love these type of hoonigan content
Reminds me of good old gran turismo days and a German 🎅 thrown in for good fun lol
Best Video i‘ve seen in a while.
Dream cars
What an incredible experience!!!
10:40-10:47 Larry's face said it ALL!!!!!! LOL
So dope y'all gave him a show
Every day so far this week I’ve woken up to this and immediately fallen back asleep, not today
@12:03 Nice shoot!
The best cars. Such a great company.
