    I'm of course, very impressed by the pianist. But I'm also impressed with whoever tuned the piano to make it out-of-tune just enough to sound like it'd been not tuned for a while, but still basically musically sound. I doubt that's easy.

      Good point, Jim! As a former piano tuner, I think it's mostly Hollywood magic. The temperament on the piano from the audio is good, and purposefully so. You have a good ear, and you're right! The unisons are slightly de-tuned to make it realistic. That wouldn't be hard for a tuner. But, had the tuner made the temperament out of tune even slightly, it would've been a challenge to not fight what they hear, and I think it would've made the piano sound worse than they would've liked. I'm sure they wanted it to sound beautiful enough to capture the humanity without wrecking the scene. To be realistic, the piano wouldn't have been tuned in months. The freezing room would've caused the wood on the piano to contract causing the wires to contract and deviate from its standard tuning so far that even a monotone would hear it. The character's performance would have been played imperfectly because no one of any caliber can play that without warming up, and with freezing fingers. Hollywood magic. We just have to consider the essence of what's being presented in the scene without the need to be too realistic. :)

      With a large enough movie budget you could just purchase a piano, put it in an apartment/house like this one, start a world war and genocide and allow time to take its toll on the piano ever so slightly.

    • @tugruldemir1879
      @tugruldemir1879 Рік тому +7

      I both agree and disagree with this comment. The piano may be out of tune on purpose, but I think they did it to make it sound like a piano made in the early 20th century. You know, the piano didn't always sound as smooth as it does today.

    To me, this is by far the best scene in the whole film. To see the German officer being so moved by Szpilman's out-of-this-world piano skills gives me goosebumps. Everything that lies behind is so meaningful: not only do you get the obvious sympathy for Szpilman and his horrible situation, being under circumstances that are so strange for an accomplished musician that used to live a comfortable life; you also feel unexpectedly sympathetic towards a Nazi officer (yes! A Nazi officer indeed!) because you get to see that, after all, he's also human. You get a little hope, despite everything that was going on during those very dark times, that in the end, there is something good inside all of us that can be sparked by, in this case, music, which is, as this scene shows, a universal language that can transcend every conceivable boundary. A true masterpiece.

    In his real life when he was in front of the situation, he didn't play this piece and instead played Chopin's Nocturne in C# Minor No 20.
    He was able to show his musical prowess and that the beauty of music is unbounded.
    This same phenomenon also happened during wars where two opposing sides were temporarily united through the touch of music.

    C'est une belle illusion , car il joue - très mal d'ailleurs et sans phrasé - les premières notes de ce magnifique opus 23 en sol mineur de CHOPIN.Comme il n'a pas vraiment le sens du rythme , il bouscule le triolet de croche si expressif après avoir écorché la montée à l'unisson de la phrase introductive.C'est intéressant de voir qu'il ne possède aucun sens technique , les mains n'ayant que très peu abordé cet aspect essentiel du piano.Je crois néanmoins qu'il pianote dans la vie... mais sans approfondir.
    La suite de la Ballade est un enregistrement de qualité.Pour les besoins du film , toute une partie du développement est sauté pour arriver à la Coda qui est le passage le plus périlleux de cette oeuvre.Dans l'ensemble l'acteur - qui est excellent dans ce rôle difficile - fait assez bien illusion au piano...si ce n'est qu'il eût été impossible au pianiste , dont le film retrace la vie , de pouvoir jouer cette Ballade de CHOPIN après autant de temps passé sans travailler sa technique et dans l'état d'affaiblissement physique où il s'était réellement trouvé.Ce n'est pas l'oeuvre qu'il joua devint l'officier allemand , mais le Rondo en ré Majeur de MOZART.
    Il eut été merveilleux qu'il retrouvât cet officier une fois les hostilités passées.Hélas , il apprit que celui-ci mourut quelques années plus tard en Sibérie et il regretta de n'avoir pu l'aider à son tour.
    Une histoire profondément bouleversante et vraie que le film de POLANSKY retrace avec fidélité.

    Meiner Meinung nach nimmt das Hören dieser ausgeschnittenen Melodie leise Positionen ein, durchbricht allmählich die Belagerung des Feindes, verwaltet das Leben der Menschen im Inneren und zerstört schließlich die Burg und stellt sie wieder in ein ruhiges Land dar. Es fühlte sich wie eine Bühne an, zu der man zurückkehren kann.
    Ich denke, es spiegelt die moderne Welt wider, dass die schöne und schöne Melodie weggeworfen und die Geschichte gesponnen wird.
    Pianisten haben eine große Sensibilität und Technik.☺️

    Qué gran película , Éste soldado alemán aprecio la buena música del polaco judío y lo ayudo ... Luego se tornaron las cosas y el soldado alemán fue a un campo de concentración y el pianista intento ayudarlo , pero ya no pudo o un traslado o la muerte . Lo qué más asco me da que entre seres humanos pudiera pasar esa miserable injusticia , cuándo muchos eran judíos ... Y cómo aún hoy muchos no reconocen el holocausto y los miles y miles de crímenes y experimentos que hacían con mujeres , niños , hombres , ancianos , no tenían corazón , estaban locos , locos de poder y gloria ... Qué no se vuelva a repetir otro loco anda suelto

      Please do not dislike your country. Yes, what happened was horrible. It’s important to remember you can’t be held accountable for Germany’s past history. But you can learn from it and make sure it does not happen again. My ancestors owned slaves and I am absolutely ashamed of that part of my family’s history. So I make sure I do not judge people by the color of their skin. I hope in my small way that I can make up for the sins of my ancestors.

      Oh and the propaganda taught to you your cultural marxist schools has made you a history expert? Likely not given the very stupid first statement you wrote. Ask yourself this: who does it service to hold Germany done by making it''s people guilty for eternity? Why is it that basic facts can't be disputed about that time? Who doesn't let you questions them? If those questions gave answers different than what you've been told, what happens next? Don't be stupid your whole life Angelika. Those German soldiers were trying to save you from the barbarians at the gate and all you can do is live off of government benefits and complain.
