@@sachinthaniranga5136 In case of clean cities and pure services i agree with you from India. But, For notice, you have less population with less corrupted politicians and we have high population with more corrupted politicians. So, it became a challenge but younger generations can make it happen.
In terms of technological development, Sri Lanka is way down compared to India. There is actually no comparison. However, on a social level, in providing services to the people, Sri Lanka used to be ahead of India for many years. We had an excellent civil service, impartial judiciary and reasonably good transportation facilities. Sri Lanka did very well in main areas that determined the quality of life, such as literacy, health care, infant mortality etc and maintained a fairly reasonable form of democracy for a few years after independence. India fought very hard for independence from Britain. But Jinnah’s insistence to carve out a separate Muslim state put the other leaders of the independence struggle completely off balance. They were saddled with seemingly insurmountable problems right from the start. Separation of Pakistan and the resulting Hindu - Muslim riots polarized the two countries to a considerable extent. The never ending border disputes with Pakistan and China is still a problem for the government of India. Besides, it is a very big country with varieties of very vocal ethnic groups. They have one seventh of the world population and therefore they are destined to have one seventh of the world problems too. But still, successive leaders of the country should be credited for maintaining democracy for so long in such a big country. I have been there for the first time in 1974 and recently in 2005. The extent of development within a span of about 30 years was astronomical. If they keep up the momentum, India will be a superpower in the next 25 years. Sri Lanka, on the other hand obtained independence without any struggle and without any loss of lives. Britain was not interested in holding Sri Lanka as a colony after granting independence to the neighboring big country. Consequently, Sri Lankan political leaders, democratically elected to run the country seem to have not appreciated the value of independence. Initially, everything looked rosy and we were considered second only to Japan in economic progress. Winston Churchill portrayed Sri Lanka as a pearl of the Indian Ocean. The charismatic former Prime Minister and the founding father Singapore, Lee Kwan Yew saw Sri Lanka as a model nation and wanted Singapore to emulate us. But years later, he pointed Sri Lanka as model to be discarded. So what went wrong? It is a classic example of democracy gone crazy. The failure of parliamentary politics and the entrenchment of ethnic politics led to many years of civil war. Growth of the two party systems coincided with the deterioration of ethnic relations in the country. Minority Tamils were continuously used as pawns by the Sinhalese politicians to win elections. Basic rights of Tamils were taken away. Making Sinhalese as the official language, followed by the introduction of proportional admission to the universities (instead of on merit) made our politicians to protest vehemently. Their protest fell on deaf ears and periodic riots incited by some politicians to antagonize the minority Tamils became very common. All these atrocities perpetrated with impunity led the Tamil youths to take up arms. Many people point an accusing finger on Tamils for creating and coddling with rebel groups specially the LTTE without thinking who created LTTE. President Jayawardene, a seasoned politician - Prime Minister of all the citizens on the country said immediately after the 1983 ethnic riots that he doesn’t care about the minority Tamils. His consecutive actions indicated that he really meant it. Political leaders like him created LTTE and not the Tamil population. The lack progress in Sri Lanka is because of many years of civil war. When Indian leaders moved slowly to build their country, Sri Lankan politicians did their best to move the country backwards. The country needs many years to recover from the effects of the long civil war -and to attain financial stability to run a proper government. The current leadership is relatively new and they appear to be on the right track especially with ethnic reconciliation efforts. But whether the attitude will last is a matter of concern to many of us who are old enough understand the partisan politics in the country. Past history is not favorable to predict any positive outcome. If the leaders join together to solve the ethnic problem (without thinking the end of the war solved all the problem), Sri Lanka could rise up again.
@Unikoon Systems The question is so biased. Just because Sri Lanka has higher GDP per capita, it doesn’t mean its more developed. You are looking at only Colombo. Have you seen Navi Mumbai? or how about Vashi, Pune, Mysore, Mangalore, Hassan, Panjim, Calicut, Cochin, Pondichery? How about New Gurugram, Noida, Gangtok, Surat, Shillong…pick any of these cities, their standard of living is very high. If you want stats, then Just the GDP of city of Mumbai (not the whole state of Maharashtra), is almost thrice the GDP of whole of Sri Lanka. I’m not trying to take away the credit from the Sri Lankans. They are great people. Even after decades of war, they have achieved wonders (better explained by Benedict Joseph ‘s answer). But you are comparing apples and oranges here. Total population of Sri Lanka is minuscule compared to India. Hell, total number of people in India below poverty line is many times the total population of Sri Lanka. So you cannot generalize and say ALL of Sri Lanka is more developed than ALL of India.

Gautam Buddha (Or Prince Siddhartha) was a Hindu by birth as he was born in Shakya Dynasty who ruled Major Parts of Today's Indian State of Bihar along with Southern Nepal Region. His teachings were greatly influenced from Vedic Knowledge. And thats the main reason why one can find many ideological similarities between Hinduism and Buddhism. Wonderful video btw. :)
who is he, this sounds pretty smart, kind of similar to what Savarkar said about asoka that the strategy to expand India's influence was to spread buddhism through state support, Hinduism couldnt be spread because at that time we considered that other people were not fit to practice the faith, so a simpler version for them @@Me7eOrmEmO1r2
@Ashen Wicky One must remember that both philosophical systems existed and flourished and developed in a common social and intellectual milieu. They studied each others’ texts, debated together, argued together and exchanged ideas. Throughout South-East Asia during the great Khmer empire both religions flourished side by side - the metaphysical differences were a matter for scholars, the common people had no idea that they were different religions. Secondly the differences are actually very esoteric. For example the biggest contention is about Īśvara and Ātman. Īśvara is the personal (saguna) aspect of Brahman - the undifferentiated (nirguna) Ground of Being. The Buddhists deny any personal deity. Contrary to popular opinion the Buddha never denied the existence of the Hindu gods, he mentions them, and after his enlightenment he was reluctant to preach until Brahma came and persuaded him to do so. In Thailand the monks preach the Dharma from behind screens with the face of Brahma on them. And Brahma is the most common image around! What the Buddha preached was that the gods had no hand in the Liberation (nirvāṇa) of humankind and we all have to strive for it ourselves, relying only on our personal effort. The issue of the ātman (Self) is complex. Hindus claim that we are all modes of consciousness (jīvātmans) that have taken birth in human bodies due to Karma. There are three Hindu schools of thought on this matter; The Advaitians (non-dualists) who claim that all the ātmans are one in essence and ultimately unite and coalesce in Brahman in the state of mokṣa/nirvāṇa.The Visiṣṭhādvaitins (qualified non-dualists) who claim that the ātmansare one in essence but retain some degree of atomic separation in mokṣa/nirvāṇa.The Dvaitins (dualists) who claim complete and eternal separation of ātmans, always. The Buddhists hold with the ‘non-self’ doctrine (anātman). The Buddha said: “I have searched everywhere (body and mind) and I have failed to discover a Self!” The Hindu polemicists would rejoin:- “well then! Who was it that was doing the searching???” The anātma doctrine denies only the substantial existence of the ātman as a unique entity not the existential experience of a Self. So in this wise it is in agreement with Advaita Vedānta (often called by detractors as pracchana bauddha-vāda - crypto-buddhism). Advaita Vedanta has many similarities with Madhyamika Buddhist school of thought. Other differences revolve around the nature of consciousness, what is it that actually incarnates? If there is no Self then how does karma transfer from one life to the next? But as I said, these metaphysical issues so loved by the scholars are irrelevant to the devotees in the temples, ashrams and monasteries. The biggest difference to the laypeople of the Buddhist region is Buddhism is a monastic based religion and has very little to offer to householders except the precepts. There are no Buddhist rituals for weddings, funerals, birth, passages of life etc. So wherever Buddhism has gone these lay rituals were either carried over and modified from Hinduism or adopted from the indigenous people - like Shintoism in Japan The Buddhist king of Thailand is still regarded as an incarnation of Vishnu, and entitled RAMA. The Ramayana is depicted on the walls of the royal palace. All the Buddhist countries have their own version of the Ramayana. The Royal temple is Hindu with statues of the trinity: Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. All the ceremonies and protocols as well as the recent cremation of the king are done by the royal Thai Brahmins according to Hindu rituals. The Tibetans adopted Vedic rituals like the Yajña (fire oblations) and perform them with great panache! Most of their ceremonies are Hinduesque . Even the Shinto religion has many of the Vedic Hindu deities and the fire-ceremony (called GOMA) is popular and beautifully executed (more aesthetic one may say than in India!). So influences are there ofcourse but maybe not in the way you want them to. :)
@Ashen Wicky so you believe that Alan Watts is wrong, it's okay because that dude wasted his entire life researching these Eastern philosophies. Now, Most widely known book of Buddhism is dhammapada and there is quote there, said by Buddha himself," eso dhammo Sanatana" what does it mean??? "Eso" means this is "Dhammo" means Dharma "Sanatana" means SANATANA Now ,do yourself a favor kid go to the Google and type "Sanatan Dharma". Now give me a "scriptural evidence", where Buddha criticised Hinduism. Buddha challenged the Monopoly of Brahmin on Hinduism and yes Buddha was critical of God worship and rituals for him or her but look at what Buddhist are doing right now???? "They made Buddha as God started rituals for him" And cast system, actually Buddha is the largest contributor to the so called cast system is India Because his "extreme focus on non- violence" lot of people were thrown out of the society such as fishermen, hunters, meat eaters, people involved in leather works etc. Buddhism is no different from Hinduism, just like if a Hindu worship Shiva and other Krishna, that doesn't mean these two people are from two separate religions but yes both have different approach to attain liberation.
@Ashen Wicky what I said is 💯 percent true because I gave you sriptual evidence of what Buddha said...any person who was involved in any type of violence were outcasted from the society. Non - violence(animals + humans) is an integral part of Buddhism and because of that China massacred Buddhist in Tibet and Buddhist couldn't fight back and ran for shelter in India and India gave cities to these Buddhist, where dalai lama is living from last 60 years. Buddhism was remained as a dominant religion in India for more than 700 years before it was wiped out single handedly by single rishi "yeah rishi named adi sankaracharya" these all are f***ing history written in history books go read it kiddo.,and you should play bombs💣💣💣 with your fellow Muslims because chess is too advanced for 7th century desert cult followers. One last thing the president of India is also from so called low cast. I am not going to reply again because this is "travel channel" not religious channel and I want it to be like that.

One thing to never say to a Sri Lankan: Sri lanka is similar to India, oh no no no don't do that
lol...but its really looks like kerala or tamilnadu.
@@Arkaworldd no it is absolutely does not. Colombo is way cleaner, not as hot and more tropical vibes(more green).

Greetings from Colorado! Our family is headed to India this year and intially we were going to end our trip in Maldives but quite honestly your video of Sri Lanka has inspired us to change our plans and finish our trip in Sri Lanka. We need to maximize our time and one of the highlights would be to visit the spice garden you visited where you harvested the spices to make the most incredible fresh curry with okra. In my research there are so many spice gardens. What was the name of the spice garden the three of you visited? Thank you and keep exploring keep inspiring!
Good job guys! Thanks for visiting our beautiful island home and also for getting almost all the facts right except when you said that "Its a lot like India in many ways" which is not true.
Sri lanka and sri lankans are way more concerned about their cleanliness than indians, sri lanka is less populated and the average literacy levels of sri lankans are higher.
Anyways, you have done an amazing job in covering the key locations of colombo. Looking forward to your future videos!
That's true but Still India is more rich in History, Culture ,Food ,Architecture and amazing Royal palaces and India's Global reach and presence despite all the problems. 😆😆

Sri Lanka is on the list!
Alan Watts has aptly put together Hinduism and Buddhism in one sentence;"Buddhism is Hinduism stripped for export".
who is he, this sounds pretty smart, kind of similar to what Savarkar said about asoka that the strategy to expand India's influence was to spread buddhism through state support, Hinduism couldnt be spread because at that time we considered that other people were not fit to practice the faith, so a simpler version for them @@Me7eOrmEmO1r2
The issue of the ātman (Self) is complex. Hindus claim that we are all modes of consciousness (jīvātmans) that have taken birth in human bodies due to Karma. There are three Hindu schools of thought on this matter;
The Advaitians (non-dualists) who claim that all the ātmans are one in essence and ultimately unite and coalesce in Brahman in the state of mokṣa/nirvāṇa.The Visiṣṭhādvaitins (qualified non-dualists) who claim that the ātmansare one in essence but retain some degree of atomic separation in mokṣa/nirvāṇa.The Dvaitins (dualists) who claim complete and eternal separation of ātmans, always.
The Buddhists hold with the ‘non-self’ doctrine (anātman). The Buddha said: “I have searched everywhere (body and mind) and I have failed to discover a Self!” The Hindu polemicists would rejoin:- “well then! Who was it that was doing the searching???”
The anātma doctrine denies only the substantial existence of the ātman as a unique entity not the existential experience of a Self.
So wherever Buddhism has gone these lay rituals were either carried over and modified from Hinduism or adopted from the indigenous people - like Shintoism in Japan
The Buddhist king of Thailand is still regarded as an incarnation of Vishnu, and entitled RAMA.
"Eso" means this is
"Dhammo" means Dharma
"Sanatana" means SANATANA
Now ,do yourself a favor kid go to the Google and type "Sanatan Dharma".
Now give me a "scriptural evidence", where Buddha criticised Hinduism. Buddha challenged the Monopoly of Brahmin on Hinduism and yes Buddha was critical of God worship and rituals for him or her but look at what Buddhist are doing right now????
"They made Buddha as God started rituals for him"
And cast system, actually Buddha is the largest contributor to the so called cast system is India Because his "extreme focus on non- violence" lot of people were thrown out of the society such as fishermen, hunters, meat eaters, people involved in leather works etc.
Definitely my favourite bunch of vagabonds on youtube!
people Buddha was born in Nepal and it will be correct to say Buddhism came from Nepal not India.
