    As a modeller with a niche interest in electric railroading alongside conventional diesel electric railroading, these EP-5s do look tempting to have as part of an electrified district with freight electrics (such as the E-44 or E-33 wink wink, nudge nudge). As for when New Haven joined Penn Central, my understanding is that they joined the fold in 1969 and a condition of the PC merger by the ICC was including the NH (along with N&W taking control of the D&H and EL through Dereco)

    • @rapidotrains
      @rapidotrains  3 роки тому

      Ya the NYC and PRR didn't really want to include the New Haven in the merger and the NH itself was already bankrupt. Approval by the ICC was conditional on the NH being included and they formally joined the PC system on Dec 31, 1968.

    Rapido's secret is they took Wayne Szalinski's shrink machine and shrunk lots of prototypes. I know, one was leaking diesel fuel when it arrived in the mail.
    Anyway, I read in a model railroading book long, long ago published in the 1970s or 80s about some enthusiasts actually model working overhead centenary to power their electric models. The author said that was a whole other level of model railroading that was beyond the scope of the book.
    I wish I could find those old model railroading books, but the library disposed of them decades ago.

    • @rapidotrains
      @rapidotrains  3 роки тому +1

      Haha if only it were that easy! 🤣
      Also too bad about the library books. Operating on overhead catanary certainly is on a different level!

    I'm really looking forward to this. I jumped back into the hobby during the pandemic for the first time in 30 years, when I was 10 about, when I recently unearthed our old family locos and rolling stock (none of which are New Haven; we have mostly CN and other Canadian roads), and then discovered this upcoming Rapido loco a few months back which jumpstarted my new passion for NH and modelling. As a graphic designer, that NH McGinnis scheme just screams to me. I've pre-ordered one and got my hands on most of the trailing passenger styles, but I didn't recognize the "Parlor car" from anything I've seen. Is that an older, discontinued model?

      Also, any chance of an n scale release of these later on?

      As a juice jack modeler, i'm not as much a fan. Usually, the mechanisms add cost, decrease weight (reduce pulling power), and make it a pain to use the pantographs manually.

      The MTH GG1s had this feature.

      Our pantographs can be lowered by hand without damaging them. As for decreased weight, the mechanism is by ESU and it's very compact. We normally don't put weight up into the roof anyway. We hope you'll like them!
