- After over two decades, the square talking watch many a 90s kid grew up with is still being made...but does this mean it's still the same watch? Twenty years is a long time... Wait and see. :)
Thanks for the heads up it may look like the classic watch but it isn't.
The voice on this current version unit, believe it or not, now used on all ulmost OEM talking low vision aids, be it watches, alarm clocks, calculators, pedometers etc etc. Unfortunately, each device no longer has its own separate characteristic voice, also they have removed the melodies from the calculators and pedometers as well unfortunately. I believe this voice was originally released in about 2010, at least that's when I first heard it being used on the future aids brand OEMs from Canada.
That’s interesting, I had no idea when that voice was first available. I will say? Part of me does miss the 90s version. :-)
@@rml695 I love both, I love the old one bc of the melodies and multiple sounds, but the current one is nice at the same time. I have a red talking pedometer that has the current chip, also a blue heart shaped old school variant, but sadly after battery replacement the blue one no longer counts steps. I think the pendulum might have been knocked loose during the battery replacement. The heart shape ones are a pain in the neck to put fresh batteries in, lots of tiny delicate screws and parts. The red unit is much easier, just has a sliding battery door..
I had a variation of the classic model, generally speeking it had a dial where the mode button would be and no hourly chime, not sure who sold it as most of the watches I get are RNIb sertified now, like the one I got for christmas last year, the main issue is that the dial is known for becomeing detatched from the watch, the voice in this model also got used in the updated ultmost talking calculators, I've seen one of those units, as well as the one with the alarm clock, pitty they removed the music box, its simply a rebranded sharper image talking calculator with that voice used not only in this watch, but the ones that have the built in stopwatch functionality, I think you can still get those, since 2014 they changed it so that when an alarm goes off it will not say good morning, good afternoon, or good evening, it will just say the time after the alarm number is announced, the watch I have now is a UK domestic, not sure who made it but it doesn't have any hands, has an hourly chime and lets you change the date
The one with the dial was also made by Ultmost. My grandfather had one. In the case of that specific watch, the dial became too loose, though it didn’t pop off.
it did on mine, I ended up getting a replacement watch, the reflex talking watch, another one that has withstood the test of time, one unique thing about the watch is that it had 3 different songs for the alarm, I believe they were rebranded smiggle watches, the talking clocks made by the same brand play oh suzana for the alarm, I believe both are discontinued at this point, since my watch is domestic, I am going to invest in a talking clock that I can travil with temperarily, I love the one I have now, nice metal bracelet, just slides on, all my future watches are going to have this configuration, for some strange reason it doesn't announce the year when it announces the date for some reason, it starts at 2021 when you set the year
I had at least 4 of these watches with the classic voice in the mid-2000s, plus a talking keychain which oddly enough I still have! I have no idea if it works, though. I also had 2 talking clocks with that voice during that same time period, one of which was a big triangular one you assembled yourself. In addition, the classic bong also came on at least two of my other talking clocks with different voices, one of which was a big rectangular thing that also announced the temperature and played music. And lastly, speaking of temperature announcements, I also had a tiny, pocket-size talking clock shaped sort of like an orange slice if I remember correctly. It had a different bong, a fast American female voice announcing time and temperature, and 2 alarms, a beep and a cuckoo. I haven't been able to find it online and I've been wondering about it...
Do you by chance mean the one that’s shaped like a tear drop that has approximately 5 alarm sounds, some of them being musical melodies including the can can dance?
@@rml695 I don't think it had the can can (I had a watch that did that though, I'd like to know who makes that too). But actually I heard the one I mean going off in another video, I pointed it out in one my other comment from today.

I bought it 5 years ago, so naturally the battery has died. Other than that I’d say it’s in good shape. Just needs a new button cell.

To my knowledge there is no way to change the language. Unfortunately you’re gonna have to order another one and return this model. I’m sorry :(

i had simular watch in second grade, and i deed same as you weth the band. on my watches wase been 3 types of alarms: rooster, awle and hi peech beep
I use Apple Watch, that helps a lot. Bright numbers and letters, so I can see it well, also can change the color, vibrations while notification.
