How to fish the swimbait for Spotted Bay Bass
Вставка
- Опубліковано 4 жов 2024
- Made a quick video on how to fish the swimbait for spotted bay bass. Had the wonderful opportunity to fish San Diego Bay from the shoreline. Fished for 1 hour utilizing only swimbaits. low tide with cloudy cover made it ideal to fish with a 3/8 oz swimbait presentation. In this video I explain how and why to use the swimbait to catch spotted bay bass. I hope you guys enjoy!

Hi Rodney great video I can’t wait to fish for some spotties this weekend. I’d love to see a video with you catching some yellowtail though!
That first spotty was the cleanest catch and release I’ve ever seen haha
haha :)
Nice! I like to use crocodile lures and also go near structures. Remember to go in changing tides, preferably half way between low and high tide
ill use it next time im fishing :)
*That's a nice vibrant area you fished in this video Rodney.*
Thanks Mike! its a nice place to fish
Fish this spot all the time !! Hope to see you out there bro

Hey rodney how's it going! Great video like always 👍 i would love to see a video where you use a jerk bait it's one the type of baits that i need to learn and have confidence in! Keep up the great work man you're the best!
I will be fishing san diego bay this weekend . I will make sure to bring some jerk shads hehe
Ever rent one of the bay skiffs? Buddy and I were out this same day. Caught almost 30 fish and 3 different species.
yes I have before. I made maybe 10 + videos of my skiff adventures : ) thanks for watching!
Spotted bay bass are so much fun! Great video!!🎣😃
I looooooveee it. I need to catch a halibut soooon
Those are some good looking fish bro!
They are an awesome species to target. They are always willing to bite anything thrown at them
Dude where you fishing at from shoreline?? Every time I go shore fishing from spottie it’s too much rock and loses too much tackle 🤷🏽♂️
So true tho I’ve had a couple spotties choke a 5 inch keitech and the spotty was barely 7 inches haha
Thats why I love fishing for them. so aggressive and always willing to bite anything you throw at them
@1:10 i caught a spotted bay bass at that spot today. Used the drop shot technique.
nice!!!! glad that spot still holds spotties :)
Nice job! Keep em coming!
Thank you sir!
Awesome bro loved this episode! Smashed em’!
Thanks brotha!
Great fishing videos keep up the great work!

Got damn Pare. I love all your vids. Now I gotta put it to work here in OC.
Hey Rodney! Great videos! I’ve recently moved to San Diego and picked up surf fishing. But wanted to start going for the bay bass. Any suggestions on locations and spots?
nice! welcome, I hope you enjoy san diego fishing at its finest! I recommend fishing harbor island from the rocks. beautiful location and great place to get to know san diego fishing
thanks for the tips - fun
Thanks Glenn ! stay tuned for more fishing videos :)
Love the video rodney keep up with the good videos love the content.hope you have a wonderful day.
thanks I am :) hope your day is as well
Thanks for the vid cuz
Thanks Juan! will keep uploading
Nice job dude!
Thank you! Cheers!
bro this was a great video!
As usual, your vids are chock full of info.
thanks brotha! I hope that "fishing over the eel grass" scene helps others
I always keep my rod tip pointed up at around the 10 a clock angle to be ready for them strikes
good tip. I usually have it at the angle when fishing over eel grass during my kind of situation from shore
Great videos brotha! I'm coming down to San Diego with the family this weekend. Where is a good place to fish, bbq and chill by the bay?
Hey Jeff, Harbor Island is a beautiful place to do all that. You even have the city skyline to site see while your fishing. its beautiful
Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t that NTC park across the bay? Near the Point Loma neighborhood?
Fun day catching Bass.. By the way are there any halibuts?
it sure was :) I have caught halibut there before. but I was not able to get any to bite. maybe I needed to try that drop shot haha
Why is it you don't eat any of these fish? Great videos and keep you the good work.
Thanks Roger! I mainly practice catch and release, unless its a Tuna :) and sometimes halibut
Hi Rodney, first i want to say that your videos are awesome! I had a question, so I fished the spot in this video next to Liberty station with swim baits and did not get one bite?! The water was fairly clear and didn't even see a fish? I also fished several other parts of Mission Bay and Harbor Island and no bites at all?! I tried swimbaits, ned rig, jerk baits and nothing worked! This was this weekend and last weekend, so my question is if this is a bad time of the year for spotted bay bass? If so, what is a good time of the year? Any info would be greatly appreciated!! BTW, I follow your channel and look forward to more videos! Thanks!!
Thank you for watching some of my content! I hope it is helpful in someways. You asked a really good question. I generally like fishing for spotties during the spring, summer and fall. Winter time the bite gets slow, as the spotties metabolism is slower and they are less aggressive. However, they do still bite. IMO , they congregate more back bay (south of coronado bridge) during the winter time :)
@@RodneyMarquezFishingChannel Hi Rodney, thanks for the quick response. I have been mostly a fresh water fisherman so I totally understand that in the winter the bite slows down because the fish are just not eating as much. I guess it makes sense that it’s the same for saltwater. I did some surf fishing in Maui in November and caught a few spotted queen fish a trumpet fish and a bluefin trevaly! Granted the water is warmer there!😜 Thanks again Rodney!
Fun man!
Thanks Dave :D
How about a video on how to catch a shortfin corvina?
Nice video idea. I still need to do some that are on the list . like the surf fishing one
Yo Rodney do you have any secret fresh water spots in north county ;)?
Joe Rogaine they are everywhere :)
is that a good spot for halibut
yes it is :)
I'm trying to learn about ocean bay fishing. Do the fish bite all year long in the bay or is it like lake bass that bite spring-fall? Just trying to determine if this is the wrong time of year to take my son to try some ocean fishing.
Great question! They bite all year round. These spotted bay bass are very aggressive and they will bite throughout the year
How do u like that okuma reel? Great video
Hey Rodney, do you tie directly to your bait or do you use a swivel with a clip?
it looks like he is tying directly onto his leader.
Good day in San Diego #bayboiis
Thanks Ray
not sure if this has been asked but why do u pull line out after you cast, lure hits water, u close the bail and riiiiiip😂. I thought u were testing your drag but I did it multiple times so that threw my theory out the window 😂. unless u test drag over and over, or u are adjusting drag but editing it out?
Hahah , I believe it’s a habit of re checking the drag multiple times .
@@RodneyMarquezFishingChannel thanks for replying. Okay I guess that comes with fishing for years and losing fish due to drag not being set correctly? I know I lost fish trying to set the hook and it's too loose or no drag at all and losing a good size fish 😂.
Appreciate the content, keep it coming!
I've caught my biggest spotty in the oceanside harbour on squid ooo and also It was 1 am haha
What size rod and reel were you using ?
Size 400 reel with a 7 foot fast action saltlist diawa rod
Coo vids bro
Thanks Brotha
what size swim bait and what weight is the jig head
What size is keeper size?
14 inches and above . have fun!
What reel is used in this vid?
its a okuma californian reel, I dont think they make them anymore. if so its going to be newer version.
Rodney I always get hung up on either grass or rocks when I fish swim baits :( what am I doing wrong ?
If im fishing heavy heavy grass, i like using a texas rig weedless presentation type of lure. If you like to use swimbaits try to retrieve that bait quicker so youre swimming that bait over the grass. if your still getting stuck in the grass, try using a lighter weight swimbait . let me know if this helps
I'm trying to figure out where you were. I'm in Point Loma.
Right across the water from liberty park
close to spanish landing in san diego bay . good place
@@RodneyMarquezFishingChannel HA! 3 blocks from me. I'm the resident dock master at Driscoll's Wharf. Stop in sometime.
Break down rod and reel choices
in the works ! thanks for watching
Is that at liberty station?
yup!
Nice
thanks
Do you use the same techniques in mission bay?
yes sir! works well there. I honestly think the drop shot technique from shore using sand worms are the better choice for mission bay.
Thanks bro!
What rod did you use?
I was using a diawa salt list spinning rod
what happened with your tournament??
I could not get the permit from the city of san diego in time. So i am currently working another date
where can I find this spot?
Liberty station. Google maps is your friend :)
Can i know the address of this area
Rodney, I want to go fishing with you
You talk so cute 💕
haha thanks :)
Was just out there for four hours… lol Not one bite.
Great video Rodney, I have only caught one spottie having fished countless times all over Mission and San Diego bay. I have to be the WORST fisherman in San Diego! I have even fished this area in Liberty Station and nothing......What swimbait would you recommend? I have been trying a texas rig weedless with different plastics because anytime I try something with an exposed hook all I get are weeds.....After watching this I definitely think I am reeling too slow and letting it hit the bottom, thus all the weeds. If you can recommend a good swimbait, next time I will try a constant retrieve like you did here and see if that helps me avoid the weeds.
