One of the finest car that Proton ever produced. It's durability & reliability was in par with Saga Magma.
In Malaysia, Impian is called Waja. And you can still see abundant of this magnificient machine being driven on the road to this day. That shows how reliable it is as a daily ride.

My father still drive the 2001 Waja until now. Nice car. Mitsubishi engine is marvelous with Waja.

Mine has 2002 Waja. Now it's 180k km on the clock and running smoothly.
Great car with awesome ride and handling. Only to be let down by poor quality materials supplied by local vendors. Great engine gearbox combo, mated to a balance chassis developed by Lotus.

I have an Impian GSX and I love it. It's a great little car and totally reliable.
It's a nice car. few days ago I met some of Malay uncles were having Waja club at Tesco, I guess. All looks good and maintained well :)

This is from 2001 compare to now its been 18 years so...of course there is a lot more improvised since then but not bad for first product of proton.

There was a stretched wheelbase 2.0V6 Mitsubishi engined version of this car sold in Malaysia...Shame we never got that engine as an option in the standard wheelbase car for the uk..

This car is converted (exterior) to all sort of cars in malaysia, evo 7, golf 6, bmw e60, and then cla tail lights too
every car is built for specific target group...ferrari's are not ur standard people's car same goes to proton it is targeted to middle and low income users so mocking a car and comparing it to a high end vehicle is actually mocking a poor person and comparing him/her to the rich elites....obviously car segments need a joke car for fun and games but they have to realize in reality some people buy proton not because the love it but its the only thing that they can afford and its good enough.
He was actually quite supportive of the car and the company.

In it's stock state its kinda decent but throw in a TDO4 turbocharger in there and then you'll really get a feel for it.

Tapi nak main banding, tak patut banding dgn keta kelas mewah, sebab Proton ni untuk yang pertengahan je... Tapi memang puas hati la... Ayah aq pakai Proton Wira 1.5GLi tahun 2002, jaga servis masa mula-mula dapat je, tapi maintain je dia pandu sampai 110km/h tiap kali ambil aq dari sekolah... Cuma, tidak semua yang sempurna dan kelemahan itu satu kepastian...

Betul tu, tapi sekarang Proton macam mencuba untuk masuk ke tahap pasaran yang lebih tinggi dengan kemunculan X70 dan X50.
Once i drove a brand new toyota vios from the showroom and driven that for nearly 100km.parked the car and drove my 10 years old father inlaw waja,condition uncaring at all..
But suprised me!!!!the 10 years old waja ride n hanlding are FAR MORE NJOYING N FIRM..the interior is WAYYYYYY ergonomics n better than the over priced and over praised toyata VIOS..

All proton products.. The handling r good.. Excellent. Event it is Wira. I have both. MyVi and Wira. Handling for MyVi-out..!! My father have Waja 2001. And Waja handling more better than my moms car-The Honda Ketam 2019..😅😅

My father had the waja 1.8x it was really fast BUT the engine was having some issues and he fixed for like 5-6 times and it couldnt work. So he sold it and got a vellfire instead

No no Proton actually make good cars ngl. Since most of Proton engines are sourced from Mitsubishi, the reliability is awesome. Campro engine is pretty reliable but more powerful, more powerful than most MMC engines lineup in old Proton. Meanwhile TGDI engines are the most powerful one ever used in Proton cars, and it has Volvo DNA.

Except the CamPro engines, some European engines, Suzuki's engine and Geely's engines...
But you must know that Inspira's engines (Mitsubishi 4B1X series) also derived from Hyundai Theta engine
@@torquern.a7692 You sound downright ignorant. Toyota has made plenty of good cars through their own effort and platform and successfully sold internationally. Meanwhile Proton, whether their own creation or rebadge/collab with other companies, have yet to make an international presence after coming to 4 decades. 4 bloody decades. Can you remember a time when Proton actually occupied more than 10% of any foreign country's car market share? Speaking of the new Supra, at least it had a significant amount of genuine Toyota involvement in comparison to Proton's full rebadge (just look at X50, X70, Inspira, Perdana etc).

And now proton is just rebadging geely's car and the last 3 developed cars have only been facelifted for years. I really wish we could have developed our own cars more.
Because doing own design required millions if not billions of money. Many company now just rebadge to save RnD cost, same with Perodua. Proton now collab with Geely because Geely have nice technology and can save more money for Proton. Before Geely came, Proton is on an edge of closing. Their sales is not the highest even in Malaysia while still maintaining own design, boy that take a lot of money

Not true that aside from the engine, the car was fully conceived by Proton. This is another derivation from the NedCar partnership sedans Volvo V40 and Mitsubishi Carisma. Even the doors are the same.
