Having a fishtank, or two helps with more humidity in the room! 🐟🐟🐠 When I do water changes, I use the tank water to water my plants. They ♥️ it!! Another tip: a cool mist humidifier placed up high above plants to spread downwards. It can be very difficult in a heated home to maintain enough moisture in the soil, let alone the air. Porcelain pots (or plastic) can be better than terra cotta pots in this situation. I agree, the trays of gravel under plants really help with humidity and plant root health. I freshen the soil in each container by adding very nutrient-rich compost or dark damp soil. I enjoy your videos and your wonderful happy spirit! 🌹

I have 2 fish tanks and a turtle tank all in my living room. And although my plants surround all tanks, my humidity is still low. Also, I’ve used the water from the fish tank (when cleaning the gravel) on my plants and they hated it. Should I just use the “cleaner “water when I’m only doing water changes and not gravel cleaning?

I have a fish take but I can’t use the water on my plant because it’s a saltwater tank but yes it does help with humidity because water evaporates and salt doesn’t

You know I've been suffering from dry mouth, nostrils and eyes every morning now for almost 2 years and it never occured to me that it might have something to do with the air quality (or lack of) in the house. I've tried everything else, but from tonight onwards I'm going to give these things a shot and see if it helps.

Try to leave a bucket of water in your room. I always got a sore throat when I slept in hotel rooms (it’s because the AC dried out the air) until someone told me to fill the ice bucket with water and leave the lid off while I slept….and what do ya know, no sore throat!

I'll boil water on the stove to increase humidity. In places with wood stoves I'll put a cast iron pot of water on to boil. You can put herbs or whatever in too and then it smells pleasant. I liked your idea of standing water in a cache pot. Similar to putting a terracotta pot in a larger non draining pot, then packing around it with moss and filling bottom of larger pot with water so moss wicks up to surround terracotta plant pot.. really great humidity suggestions. Cheers.

@@HarliG with these vases or containers etc that your using are you making sure the plants on top can handle the moisture or all can?? Reason I'm asking is I already do this with the containers and a small upside down pot inside with plants on top.BUT I've never thought of adding extra water in there. Hmmmmm peperomia clustiifolia "jelly" is one such plant I have like this. Me has lots of pots planters vases to use this way........sweet. And the humidity levels are just 40% right now. I spritz, I have some on pebble trays I have some with upside down sea shells that I put water in the sea shells to have water right there for the plants but it evaporates fast. And a few small jars of water around my plants oh and a humidifier and clustered plants together too.

I feel like misting my plants really helps keep spider mites at bay. I love the pebble tray method so much! I have a humidifier but I'm to lazy to use it so instead I have my big oil diffuser that I can set on a low setting under my humid loving plants and it lasts two whole days! It's great! High desert gardening weather indoors or out can be very interesting to say the least 😂 Oh! And fish tanks are amazing to help with humidity!!!! We used to have a huge 125 gallon system that kept all my plants soooo happy!!! I could grow orchids like none other! Now we have a little ten gallon tank and it still helps but not like that behemoth!

So I have pebble trays under almost all my humidity loving plants and they seem to be loving it. I also club my plants together when possible. I also mist my plants daily. One tip i have for ferns, is to keep them bunched together in a big tray and then fill up the tray with water, of course u must ensure that the pots dont touch this water level all the time. That has helped tremendously! All my ferns are alive and well, as opposed to earlier when I jsut killed all of them.

I recently got a humidity sensor and I was surprised when the reading was 75% in a specific room (which explains why the plants in that room seemed to do better) when I took the sensor into other rooms it would drop below 40%.
I couldn't figure out why this was happening until I noticed the water in my tropical fish tank was a little low, turns out when you put a large tank of constantly warm, circulating water in an enclosed room it'll increase the humidity.

Same here Harli. It’s freaking crazy how we plant lovers do the same thing just by paying attention to the plants characteristics and habits. Btw, it’s called transpiration when you’re talking about grouping plants together to create humidity. Plants release moisture in the air from pulling water from its roots. It helps with their growth and photosynthesis. They help each other out with providing moisture when they are grouped together. I do the same thing.

I have electric ceramic storage heaters. The electric elements between the bricks heat the bricks and then small fans blows the heat into the room. I put vases on the heaters and that really helps to put humidity into the air quickly. I fill the vases up once a week. You can put a few drops of essential oils on the water and it makes the room smell and feel good too.

Do I spot a Whovian? :D Great video, as always! I just love watching you being goofy, but the advice in here is also really helpful. We only have the humidity problem during the winter where I live (central heating and all that jazz), but that's when I do a lot of the above. Also, hang-drying clothes is good for the environment, finances AND the clothes (less power consumed --> less money paid, longer life cycle for pretty fabrics) xx

My humidity in my household is 20% !! I’ve been dry coughing up a storm. Not realizing at night breathing sometimes was bothersome and the forced air furnace would dry me out.

I have a few humidity ideas but i dont know if they will work. Would you give your opinion people?
    I thought of:
1_ Having multiple little glasses of water
2_ Having multiple trays or tuppers with water
3_ Having reasonable size wood planks with water sprayed on top
4_ Having a pot with boiling water on a little table next to the plants
5_ mopping everyday so the floor is wet
Please send your opinions. I still am going to try them tho, if anyone is interested, ask me for updates! Thanks

sounds like too much work. just buy a humidifier with good mist output and inbuilt humidistat and place it near the plants...yes it all also consume some electricity

easiest and fastest is wet towl, I have done statistics.
in summer where I live humidity outside during the day 5% and at night 10%
I spray a towel to its limit without dripping, in my big towel it hold 800 ml without dripping, if more it will drip,. How do I know? I count the time while I spray it, and then fill a litre measure cup with the same faucet and count the time to see the speed of water flow..
so I wet it to 800 ml, and fold it into 3 fold, it last a day!!! and give 40% given that my room is 75 square meter.. (length x width x height) you can approximate it.
so it take a towel and it is the fastest.. when humidity start rising just a little more between seasons I use smaller towel. When it reaches 30% hum. outside I stop using that.. in my case just 3 months of low humidity.
if your room is bigger fold the towel only twice, of course it will evaporate faster, if your room is small fold it more it will give 40% humidity level which is the best range, the best range for your house is 30% to 50% level.
either that or a 3 big dishes that we use to eat and flat, and you fill it.. it will give the same but take space and is awkward , while you can hang the towel .. preferably in the center of the room.. given that you have 5% humidity during day 10% during night and given the space of my room... if you do that make sure to be closer to AC, or fan it will evaporate faster.
believe me I tried everything plus I love to experiment for fun, I even soaked clean new bricks.. they are good but have draw back.. 1. it takes 24 hours to soak it, then it release moisture irregularly at first a lot, then gradually decline and dry after 3 to 7 days in my dry climate in somewhat wet climate it may take month so you can not be sure of the level of moisture it emits at any given time. .. so a towel is the best!
I Use it for weeks then every once in awhile I wash it to get red of the mineral deposit from the water.
I hope that helps.. if so give like so others may benefit.

Harli, thank you again. You have answered a lot of questions I had about humidity. But I have a question, should I place my plants that are still in the growers pot on my humidity trays, or should I put them and a decorative pot, then put them on the humidity Trays?
    You're awesome, as usual!

Hello Harli G, thanks for sharing your what works for you.Today I sprayed my Calathea with distilled water and set her inside a trash bag to create a humid environment.... do you know if this would help her? If so, how long should I leave her in there. Any suggestions? I mean not all day for sure.

So I have a dozen vanga orchids, in baskets, hanging in a pot rack over my garden tub in my master bath. I have 2 warm mist humidifiers on the countertops. The palnts are surrounded by orchad moss in the gaps between the baskets (which drops threw the holes and makes a terrible mess). I spray everyday...every time I go to the restroom...with a water soluble feed mixture (a weak mixture so I don't burn the plants). Plus two people shower separately everyday in that room fogging the mirrors. And the aerial roots are still drying out. 🤔 They can't sit in water or they will rot. I'm just at a complete loss with these things. It's as if they require a jungle or something.

A no go here... this will definitely cause mold and mildew to grow in your home. Someone I know was doing this and had to replace their walls because it also grew behind them. The idea sounds nice though.

a bit late to the party but i use wet floral foam cause i usually have some laying around and i figured it has more surface area than simply a vase with water in it
i water each piece with around 150ml everyday and it usually evaporates within 24h
