    I have a lot of tropical rainforest plants that thrive in my home as long as I don’t forget to water them and I live in the vegas desert. Propagations and rehabs on the other hand, I find need very high humidity. Also smaller plants that I want to grow fast I might dome for a few months. Begonias I agree, alot of them do thrive under a dome. I love how everyone grows a bit differently and it works for them. He’s got an amazing collection!

  • @melchristensen8282

    This was so interesting! Not just because pretty plants! But also how people in different parts of the world keep their plants healthy. I live in a part of the world where the baseline humidity tends to be about 55-60% so I run a humidifier but I don't need it on constantly and 1 humidifier is enough (I use a Levoit as well! I love that you can set the humidity level in it and let it do its thing!) My problem tends to be light. I live in a foggy/cloudy country (northern hemisphere), so in winter the light becomes a serious problem (gets bright at about 8am and dark at about 3.30pm and there are very few sunny days here in winter) and I have to use more growlights than I'd like. I'd love to live in a place that had better light and more sun!
    I also have that indoor greenhouse thingy that Jake has, and I find it amazing for my higher humidity plants as well. It's not the prettiest but I'll replace it at some point and it really gets the job done in the meantime.
    I love Jake's layout though, it's gorgeous! Thank you for this vid! I have to go check out your other vids now. :)

Even did a timelapse too :) Thanks for all the vids, I also grow in a function over form manner.

    Three humidifiers in that small room may seem like a lot but when you take into account his plant load, which is A LOT, then the ratio is most likely just right, Whereas 3 humidifiers with three plants are overkilling it.

    I’ve recently found you and am really enjoying your videos.
    I’m scared to buy a new humidifier. I have a cheap one that is for babies and I ended up messing up my ceiling. The paint is all bubbled up. The humidifier is on the floor and not close to the ceiling and I only had it on for a few hours. Any problems with leaving yours on all the time?
    I really like your light set up in the living room. I believe it’s the first lights you show. They are single bulbs on white pipe (?). Where did you buy those?

    • @LegendsOfMonstera
      @LegendsOfMonstera  5 років тому

      Hm I have not had issues yet but I agree that it can mess with the ceiling if it’s too close. I should probably move it lower haha. I’ll be rearranging some plants soon anyway. Mine isn’t on 24hrs as it is automatic and only turns on when the humidity is below what I set it at, which is 65%.
      The lights and the fixtures are from amazing. The white standing light/lamp is just something I bought off amazon that matches my decor (or at least I think it matches my decor 🤣). Nothing special. Simple and cheap.

    I have levoit too. The sensor on that and my meter for temperature and humidity doesn’t match up. It’s like 10-20% different so not sure which is correct. ? And do you run humidifier all day and night? I heard running at night time will cause mold and fungus, is that true?

What's the best mist(cool or warm) for tropical plants like orangw bird of paradise, fiddle leaf fig, monstera and alocasia amazonica. Humidity levels in our house is down at 33% because of winter and that heaters are on making the air dry. I will greatly appreciate it if you could give advice or tips. Thanks.

    He has a gorgeous collection. I look forward to seeing more. I have had a few issues with my Levoitt such as it spraying water all over the floor. I got an Air Innovations humidifier and it has the same automated feature as the Levoitt, higher tank capacity and I like that it as an extension for the noozle. It is not as pretty as the Levoitt though. Perhaps because I am in the Northeast, I find that my humidity can get really high like in the 90s if I don't monitor it as then there is an issue with mold. For begonias and Philodendrons like Mamei, I put them under cloches or glass terrariums.

    I currently live in a wooded area, and making it even worse, the entire perimeter of my house has 3 foot eaves. This has been terrible for my plants, has even meant death for some. I came here with almost 80 Hoyas, have maybe 20 now. I tried a big grow bulb in a recessed fixture over my kitchen sink, and it has really helped, but not for all the plants I’ve put under it, only the ones that have lower light requirements. Some just have to have the real thing. I put a lot of them outside for the summer, and they do better in semi shade than in the dark house….but I think I need to just stop buying plants that need high light.
