@Andrew Smith I did qualify my comment by "in ages" I run 2 businesses and have a family so I only get to watch films all the way through on long flights. For what it's worth my all time favourite film is 12 Angry Men but you probably don't like that one either as it is in black and white.
This scene is sort of a breath of fresh air, in a way. Yesterday is a song like "jingle bells" or "happy birthday to you." It's so familiar, you don't even hear what is being said anymore. This scene really captures a newness of the song...like you're hearing it again for the first time. Look at the actress' face at 1:10. She's holding back tears! There are so many songs, books, and movies I wish I could go back and experience for the first time again.
Everyone...just once in their life...should spend a week or so reading into/listening to the Beatles like it was a matter of soul. They were beyond every measure we had for music and remain so to this day.
This movie was so touching and it chokes me up a bit in many parts...I'm 60 so I caught the entire Beatlemania ride...And I've spent a lifetime with their music. I fought back the tears in many parts; especially the Lennon part...The day he was murdered is still very vivid and shocking at the same time to me... My younger sister was murdered in 2013. She was a beatles FREAK...She would have been so happy seeing this movie ...
Yeah, thats just awful. Choked me up reading it. Sorry for your loss, I bet that movie teared you up a bit. I just can't imagine what it must be like, having to get sad every time I hear a Beatle song. Then again, maybe it has the opposite effect, feeling the love, a connection with your sister every time you hear a Beatle song
I love how smooth he sings the parts "...I believe in yesterday", and "...yesterday came suddenly". Pauls original has a small pause between the words.
God damn dude, when it just pans to the family playing with their dog and the boats it feels so peaceful. Like this song is just a perfect symbolism for peace and hope for the future.
When I read about the premise of this movie I blew it off. Then my wife and kids recommended it and I checked it out. I’ve watched it many times since. Great great movie.
Theory: TVA accidentally pruned George, Paul and Ringo while chasing Sylvie. To atone for this mistake, Sylvie enchants Jack while unconscious on the hospital bed, bringing to surface memories of the Beatles. She specifically chose Jack to bring their music back on the sacred timeline. The rest is Yesterday history. Nah, just came here to see Lady Loki sass on Jack Malik.
This is a rip-off of a french movie called Jean-Phillippe, where the protagonist wakes up in a world where nobody knows who Johnny Halliday is (he was one of the biggest singer in France). So he goes on and sing his songs.
Perhaps for some Paul stuff. I highly doubt he can get even get close to the expressiveness John’s voice had. That’s why his rendition of In my Life kinda sucks.
This film gets the almighty holy blessing. The actors are all stellar, no small parts at all. The music is revisioned in a way that doesn't insist upon itself but that music brings us joy and experiences. Patel's character is well done to be humble and emotive through and through. I enjoy that the romance plot doesn't overshadow everything. The humor is well done by all. This is a film I return to all the time I'm happy it exists.
I am now 74. I was a driving instructor for 21 years. I taught many in their teens and twenties. I was frequently amazed when I mentioned bands and they had never heard of them. eg,. The Electric Light Orchestra. Getting old is a strange experience sometimes.
I love the little head nod she does once he starts playing it like it’s actually moving her how good of a song it is. Love those little details. Even the watery eyes of the other girl. Brilliant.
Its quite good it shows how the bands songs are timeless. Obviously it’s emphasised but with a guy singing them in different situations they sound more beautiful
Easily one of the best scenes in the movie. I'm not much of a Beatles fan but I love the premise of this story. As some of the posters have said the reaction of his friends and GF are priceless. Wonderful writing and direction.
I resisted listening to the Beatles until I was 27, and finally being fed up about the adulation they got, did some digging on what was considered their artistic high water mark and ultimately landed on Revolver. The first two songs of course I was familiar with, but then I'm Only Sleeping Came On and it knocked me on the floor. As a guitarist for over a dozen years at that point, I couldn't figure out what the heck was going on with the song structure. Became a massive fan pretty quick after that. Two years later my vocal teacher, a trained opera singer, had a similar reaction when I brought that song in to learn.

I have a slightly similar experience, if you can believe it. Back in the day I lived in South Korea. I taught English. Every Wednesday night I went to a church in Kangnam and tutored North Korean refugees 1-1. Often I'd be trying to teach them present continuous tense or something similar. Then in an example I'd reference things like Brazil, or the World Cup. They'd never heard of it. When the Beatles came up, I threw out the rest of the lesson plan and that's all we did for the rest of the lesson. I think it came up because the student asked me if I was a hippie. I loved those lessons. And being able to show someone universal art in a world of western cultural saturation was a rare joy.
Seeing fictional reactions to Beatles songs as if no one had ever heard them before, and knowing without a doubt that the reactions are realistic....it just makes you realize how magical The Beatles were.
Funny enough I found my 12 yo cousin reading this comment and said bruh right after he finished reading, some kids these days know more than you think.
The brief pause after the first verse says so much. He almost seems slightly shocked as he happens to glance up at her, wondering why a song he believes she's heard hundreds of times is invoking such a reaction. Her brief facial expression and the way she says 'go on' is one of my favourite parts of the scene- third only to Patel's fantastic performance of Yesterday, and of course to the fact that a song as beautiful as Yesterday even actually exists in the first place.
Francisco Fabian you got it . Where do I begin ? To much to name for sure .So many things would not have been possible without the Beatles . Their influence was felt far and wide in all genres of entertainment, pop culture and on people in general . You simply could not have made this movie about any other band .
Brian Wilson certainly wouldn't have torn himself apart on his competition with Paul's songwriting. And countless artists wouldn't have been influenced by the groundbreaking Helter Skelter. But even beyond that, other british invasion bands would either get more recognition for influencing the 60s culture or have none at all, as record companies everywhere were looking to imitate and bottle their style.
This is the first beatles song I heard when I was in middle school. I had just got into linkin park and metallica, testament. Yesterday really hit me with how well a song can just hit you. i listened to it over and over just walking up and down my block with headphones on.

Paul McCartney was asleep and dreaming when he thought up the beautiful melody for yesterday and he was thinking about breakfast as well and instead of a three syllable word to fit with the melody it was “scrambled eggs” before it was “yesterday”. Just a little fun fact for ya

Beatles songs don't get played on radio or TV here, except for some very specific channels that most people don't tune in to. Just how it is here.
@@kalyana9705 My friend, you need to leave India. Going thru life without the Beatles is cruel and unusual punishment. Im kidding of course....and at least you have excellent food
“Of course it’s not bloody fix you carol it’s work of art” best quote of the movie in my opinion
Did she win any awards for her performance in this movie? She should have. She absolutely sold it. And not in just this scene, the entire movie she was just 'spot on'.
This is such a beautiful scenario that gives you a deeper appreciation for some of history’s great artists.
this scene is what made me watch the movie, and its so impactful because of the performance of the actress that said "go on". what a talent!
I watched this on an 11 hour flight from Perth to Doha, as soon as it ended I watched it again. One of the best movies I have seen in ages.
I watched it on an 11 hours flight to Korea and cried 5 times when watching. Wonder what the stewardess thought about me?
the girl is adorable.:)
That actor playing Jack can sing too.
Yup. I watched it on QA from Doha to ATL. Blew me away.
This scene is the fulcrum point in the movie and is so well done. love it.
Sorry for your loss mate.
@@joebees21 Thanks bro...

Man I LOVE this movie. I don't know how many times I've rewatched this movie.
I love how smooth he sings the parts "...I believe in yesterday", and "...yesterday came suddenly". Pauls original has a small pause between the words.
"I didn't write it, Paul McCartney wrote it"
Five minutes later
"Well there's no need to come across so big headed"
:The who?
:No, the Beatles

Love how in the bts it was said that they recorded this scene live instead of lip sync❗️👏🏼
I could sell my soul to hear the beatles for the first time again! The amount of joy i had when i discovered them back in the day.
God damn dude, when it just pans to the family playing with their dog and the boats it feels so peaceful. Like this song is just a perfect symbolism for peace and hope for the future.
Ellies reaction to the song was emotionally wonderful....
The best scene for me is when he meets John. That was such an emotional scene. The fact that he got to be old was sad and beautiful.
When I read about the premise of this movie I blew it off. Then my wife and kids recommended it and I checked it out. I’ve watched it many times since. Great great movie.
Lily’s acting in this scene was so incredible. The way her body language and expressions communicated her thoughts was beautiful.
UNDERRATED THEORY!!!
Holy crap, basically every thing is canon now for Loki
It’s not Coldplay Slyvie, it’s The Beatles
Lily James is so lovely
Is it bad I read that in a rock voice

So precious, just plain treasure to listen to someone singing with a sincere sound from their spirit
This movie is the first one to touch me in a looong time. I am 70 and when john appeared I gasped .
Possibly the weirdest concept EVER for a movie! Brilliant!!
This is a rip-off of a french movie called Jean-Phillippe, where the protagonist wakes up in a world where nobody knows who Johnny Halliday is (he was one of the biggest singer in France). So he goes on and sing his songs.

It was good, I liked it.
He's definitely got a good voice for Beatles stuff, loved this scene...
Perhaps for some Paul stuff. I highly doubt he can get even get close to the expressiveness John’s voice had. That’s why his rendition of In my Life kinda sucks.
@@shrimpu but his "Help!" was amazing
I’ve always loved The Beatles but this film made me appreciate them in a whole new way
This film gets the almighty holy blessing.
1:11 that face gets me everytime
I said something wrong, now i long for yesterday...
True!!
I'd like to think that was the face of every person who's listening to Yesterday for the first time 🤣

I love this film just because I like to imagine hearing these songs for the first time, ever, absolutely stunned.
His acting, his guitar playing, his singing, is so good. He should be on the top40 permanently, as pre-contracted 🙂
I am now 74. I was a driving instructor for 21 years. I taught many in their teens and twenties. I was frequently amazed when I mentioned bands and they had never heard of them. eg,. The Electric Light Orchestra. Getting old is a strange experience sometimes.
Love this movie! Had to rewatch it immediately. The Beatles were truly a gift and this movie is a beautiful reminder of what they gave us
I love the little head nod she does once he starts playing it like it’s actually moving her how good of a song it is. Love those little details. Even the watery eyes of the other girl. Brilliant.

A great guitar deserves a great song. (Starts playing Yoko Ono screeching over a dead cat)
That cracked me up (remember Live Peace in Toronto 1969 ?).
Hahahaha
Check out bill burr on yoko. Amazing
I love Yoko’s music. Fly is a great album.
The Beatles (the band), came and went in my lifetime. It took this movie to no longer take their greatness for granted.
Great, great, great clip. Beatles are one the most beautiful things that happens in past century. Imagine hearing this song for the first time.
Its quite good it shows how the bands songs are timeless. Obviously it’s emphasised but with a guy singing them in different situations they sound more beautiful
The expression on his face when everyone was like,"Beatles? "Who?" was absolute classic. I thoroughly enjoyed this film.
Hello Dear
How are you doing today?
This movie is so underrated. Beautifully done.
@@brandall101 Well, welcome to the world of unbelievable output in a relatively short span of time. My favorite album of theirs is Help, you should peruse that one
@@jeffwatts1126 that was 20 years ago, I’ve listened to everything they’ve done many times over. I even named a couple dogs after them (Sadie and Maxwell)
@@brandall101 Cool. Im old, but I work with a lot of young people because I work in film production. Nothing drives me more nuts that when I hear a 20 year old say "The beatles are the most overrated band ever" And I hear that often
Talk with 12yo and they gonna ask same same thing;-"Who is Beatles?"
And how well Lily can act!
Funny enough I found my 12 yo cousin reading this comment and said bruh right after he finished reading, some kids these days know more than you think.
lol this is the gayest comment ever
@@jordanjoestar458 why?
I found the timeline where Sylvie got to live her best life with her friends!
"What the hell was that"?? Is actually the exact reaction millions of people had back in 1965.
Neutral Milk Hotel would have never existed
God bless Jeff
maybe? the beach boys still exist, right? that’s the whole e6 influence right there
Francisco Fabian you got it . Where do I begin ? To much to name for sure .So many things would not have been possible without the Beatles . Their influence was felt far and wide in all genres of entertainment, pop culture and on people in general . You simply could not have made this movie about any other band .
lots of other bands would have never existed
Me when I’m with everyone else and I’m the only one that is thinking of a song similar to when I a hear another one currently playing but no one else can seem to draw the parallel of it like I can.
