  • The longest review I've ever done. So, take something to keep you awake, get the matchsticks under your eyelids and we shall begin. Go see this being built here :- / @norwegianmodellingbench

    A thorough (if not somewhat bewildering) review, Nige,. I applaud your stamina. An etch detail cockpit set for a 1/200 scale Wildcat! Unbelievable. Still, I'll bet there'll be complaints that the altimeter is the wrong diameter.

    • @NigelsModellingBench
      @NigelsModellingBench  Рік тому +1

      Not only the wrong diameter John, but the fuel gauge is showing empty. There were never a case where the fuel tank would be empty on deck.

    Absolutely a great video on the PE. You right on, must have your A game with experience to be dealing with the PE. It's something you have a lot of experience with. It's a lot of money to buy this type of kit and the PE. I'm definitely not there yet. 😆

    OK Nigel, I've got to let you know that not only did I not need stimulants to stay awake, I managed to sit through the whole video, with only a few pauses to go get a newly chilled bottle of water. I'd really like to see you do this (as CV-6 is really the first carrier I studied thoroughly in my youth), but I understand you have a lot on your plate, and you may never be able to get to this. However, I echo another viewer's comment about requesting a "beginner's video" on you PE soldering techniques. Take care.

    I will use pe on larger part's but the tiny,tiny PE part's always struggle with them some times it doesn't seem worth it you barely notice any difference but your PE work and instruction help's

    LOL I struggle just to build a PE box that has 90 degrees true...wonder how many generations of pass downs before that would get finished...it's gorgeous if I was 20 could reveal it on my 50th...45mins in and my mouth is still on the floor..😅

    Another great review. I have the Ka set with the deck. After watching Kenneth’s videos I considered buying the Pontos set but the build would end up costing almost a thousand dollars. When you consider how long it would take to build it’s not bad over time but that initial outlay stings a bit

    • @NigelsModellingBench
      @NigelsModellingBench  10 місяців тому +1

      Go on.. do it, then use the left over parts from both sets on Yorktown. You cant do Hornet as the deck was different.

    The big problem I had with the Pontos set were several part numbers on the instructions were printed wrong. Not a big issue, but annoying.

      @@NigelsModellingBench A great read, but could have had more pictures if you ask me. Btw painting 3d printed parts; have you tried using metal primer first, letting it cure for 24 hours then prime and paint?

    • @NigelsModellingBench
      @NigelsModellingBench  Рік тому +1

      I'm just playing with different etch primers to try and make something that works. I am also making molds for the resin boats in the KA kit as mine were full of bubbles and imperfections. If you need any replacement boats let me know.

      @@NigelsModellingBench Do that; I have used Tamiya metal primer first on such parts without any issues with peeling paint. Regarding the boats; then I were quite lucky, only one of the 50' were "non-salvageable". I am not going to use all the boats, so I have what I need. But many thanks for the offer Nigel 🙂
