Some of the most fun people I've ever met were from Norway.

I remember a story told to me once about a Englishman or an American who was arrested in the USSR and sent to the gulags. He didn't speak Russian and didn't talk to anyone for several years. Then one day after several years of infant-like silent immersion, he all of a sudden began speaking Russian fluently. I think Burr's estimate of six-months is a little too soon with just immersion, but I think one could be conversationally in a half-year with total immersion combined with active learning.

@Saternoc They're all pretty easy to learn to pronounce. I guess French is a little harder, but it still has some pretty basic rules on how to pronounce things based on how they're written.
It's certainly easy compared to English for instance.

@deinse81 I'm find French to be the hardest (pronunciation wise) out of the four major romance languages.

True. Plus America supported the EU since the beginning. It wasn't some great anti-American plot like Norton thought it was. From the beginning, it was an American vision to have a united Europe.

@RaidenTheAlmighty well you do realize that Jim is an incredibly defective human being, right? He's quick and funny and I love listening to the guy but he's also uneducated, a social outcast and is incredibly hostile. Patton Oswalt described him perfectly - "your life is like Taxi Driver without the guns and push ups."

@coffeecreep2000 you have to listen to that interview, it is hysterical. search O&A : Patton Oswalt's First Appearance

I think Europeans realize how little they influence Americans in any tangible way. In Europe it's not unheard of to have, for instance, 50%+ of films in the theaters be American-made(or produced), 50%+ of television programming American-made, 50%+ of music American-made, etc. Whereas in America, even with eclectic tastes, I can manage to see and hear only a handful of European films, shows, or music in an entire year.
So the petty ones lash out. A small but virulent strain of their population.

Norway is the most expensive, but if you live there you will note have a higher quality of life than in Sweden, Denmark or Finland. Their krona has been worth a lot more than the Swedish one, but everything is so much more expensive that it doesn't matter. The only way to get a benefit from their economy is to work there and live in Sweden or to just save money like crazy and then move back where you came from. Norway has oil, but that has been all of their industry so now that the US has been pushing gasoline prices down the Norwegian krown has gone down. What Norwegian companys do people know of that are not related to oil? None, they stink.

I REALLY wish Opie would follow up on his instinct to take the radio show to Europe. Even if just for 2 weeks. You bring out a solid group of comedians, the staff and anyone else you'd want to hear be a pat of this... The show needs to be injected with some energy. Get Vos, Bob, Soder, fuck it get Kreischer to go.

I never picked Jimmy for being such a crybaby about Europe. It's pretty closed minded tp think everybody who isn't American hates us.

French is easier to learn than Spanish, for English speakers. About half of English comes from French.

@GhastlyCretin85 I understand that it is fashionable to hate on America, but Jimmy is sort of portraying it like it's a governmental thing too. Like all of the Europeans banded together the hate America.

I guess. I just found his sentiment to be incredibly hypocritical.
