I Went Head To Head Against England’s Best Runners - Can We WIN The National Road Relay Champs?!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 27 сер 2024
- The National Road Relays are one of the most exciting events in the UK club running calendar. Olympians, 12-year olds and veterans alike all like up for their club and take on a 'leg' for their club, to battle it out for those club bragging rights and to see who can be crowned National Champions of the Road Relays. I go for my club, Aldershot, Farnham & District (or AFD). We've dominated this race for several years, let's see how we get on this year!

Started watching your videos on the living room tv and my girlfriend always goes ‘Oh god is it the wacky runner girl again’ which I feel is a compliment. Don’t ever change, your personality is infectious and joyful!
Haha my gf says something along those lines as well every time I watch these videos 😁 Very true, Phily always puts a smile on my face!
Haha love this 😂 I promise not to change 🤪
Your girlfriend best not look at my videos either! 🥳
Haha girlfriend is just jealous ;D I shared Phily's channel with a friend who needed some inspiration from female runners, she loves it
I'm kind of gutted...I found Phily's channel probably 5 or 6 days ago, subscribed within 10 minutes and have been binging ever since. There's that glorious feeling of finding a new channel you LOVE and seeing they've got months and months of videos and it feels like they'll never end. Breakfast, watch a video. After work, yeah I'll watch some laps on the track. Post run, ooo let's watch the 5k plan video. On the toilet, hmm Mountain running NOICE. ooo we should look at flights to Greece. Anyway, I digress. All caught up now so now I have to wait for the videos errrghhh whyyyy. What is the release schedule like, is it one every Thursday or just randomly in the week? Anyway, the bell has been rang so I'm looking forward to those notifications. Phily, within a week you have climbed not only onto the podium but into gold medal position as my favourite fitness UA-camrs. Quite possibly favourite UA-camr. Wow, the praise is really gushing out of me but it had to be said at least once!!! Might even sign off this comment with a cheeky Love the grind. Too much? Naaa. Love the grind. Hahaha
Aha this comment made my day, yes you’ll have to wait until the uploads come out! At the moment it’s Wednesday/Thursday typically but it does change sometimes.. depends how busy we are! Thanks for the support 😊
@@PhilyBowden Perhaps just tweak the schedule ever so slightly and...upload everyday? What full time job and elite training? P.s. I'll have the large, black Love The Grind t-shirt. Super Advanced order for the merch drop.
Best days of my life was training and competing for AFD loved it, loved getting the team coach at weekends to track comps or xcountry. Well done on the relay race 💜
11:37 some talent that taking your back pins out one-handed.
Haha didn’t even realise I did that 😂
I can't tell if that's a huge backpack or if our favourite distance runner is small - maybe both? 😁Great race, great result, congrats to you Phily for closing that gap, and for AFD for coming away with the bronze! Despite your minor complaints in the immediate aftermath, it seemed like a wonderful day of running and a fantastic atmosphere - you can't ask for much more when you set off for a race ♥Thanks as always to you and Daniel for your work on these videos!
Great that this exists in UK, it shows the sports culture you have there! 👍
Really loved this one, congratulations to you and your club! The course reminded me of cross country in my younger years. I was a strong runner but not very fast so the hills were my friend and evened the playing field, today in the US most races are on relatively flat courses to get the time. Can't wait to see what you are up to next. Love the grind.
Very well done Phily and team! Have spectated at many a road relay, but not taken part as either been injured or too close to a marathon race.
Well done Phily great result! I ran it back a few years ago! such a great day out!
Amazing, that's the best word for this very useful video.
Well done Phily strong run to take 3rd place and medal 🏅 👏
Another great video. Something I’m interested in understanding, is why you joined AFD? I notice a lot of top athletes such as yourself leave their local club to join a ‘big’ club like AFD, Tonbridge etc. where teammates don’t really know each other very well as they don’t train together and/or didn’t grow up running with each other as juniors. Do these clubs offer financial incentives, alternative coaching etc? There’s clearly a reason why the same clubs are always on the podium at these events as they have the best athletes but very few seem to start their athletics journey at these clubs.
Salford are notorious for doing it too, they'll take the best athletes from other Manchester clubs (even some of ours in Blackpool, but we're still their 2nd Claim).
My guess is these clubs are successful, have attracted some of the best coaches to stay successful, so the best athletes will want the best coaches 🤷♂️
Great question! In my case, although I don’t train at AFD anymore, I did train there 3 days a week for years. Started out at Bracknell my local club, and then when I was at uni began being coached by Mick Woods who also coaches at Aldershot, being only a 30 minute drive and with lots more training partners and my coach based there, I transferred clubs as I started attending their sessions - from 2015-2020. In the case of AFD, this happens a lot with people going to St.Mary’s where Mick also coaches, there was never a pressure to switch in my case, just made the most sense for my training! Woods also trains lots of AFD “born and bred” athletes, the same can be said for Mark Hookway at Tonbridge, so I’d say it’s a case of the coach both developing and attracting talent. More good coaches across all the clubs = stronger teams across the board
@@PhilyBowden Thank you for the reply. Much appreciated.
Well done and glad you enjoyed it! I did these earlier this year, so I know how hard that course is 😂 I think Tunbridge came second earlier this year when we ran it.
That looked like a very fun event to be a part of! Makes me wish I was part of a club, although I don't really do short distances like that, and doubt I would be fast enough to make a team anyway. Congrats on the podium finish!
It’s about as short a distance as I’m happy doing at the moment! Definitely good fun though, and lots of teams have second and third teams as well so everyone gets to enjoy it whether they’re the fastest or not!
@@PhilyBowden Joining a club is something I need to get around to doing - Hull has a pretty good club scene from what I've heard!
You should join a club as they will have teams of all abilities and you can take part and enjoy also 👍🏼
I was there, i heard your name by the commentators and got so excited
Sutton park is my local running route, I know your pain with all the hills!
Lovely video as always
3rd place! Congrats!! And I could only sort of tell from the background audio, but it sounds like you moved the team from 4th to 3rd on your leg?? Impressive!
Fantastic video!
Nice race :)
4:35 Imma Tonya Harding some fool!
As an American who’s gotten sucked into your British world of running via UA-cam I appreciate that you realize how spoiled you are with your club scene. There is nothing like that here - there are no park runs, no track races for “club” runners, no “clubs” for that matter, anywhere near me and I live in a city of ~5 million people! At least I can live vicariously through you, Ben is Running, Welsh Runner etc!
Another fun video! Cross country races in the autumn are the best. What kind of snacks did you get post-run?
my club went to this race we came 25 out of 80
Thanks
Thank you!! 🤩
Big well done 👏
I ran there for the u15 boys and team managed to come 15th!
Very nice course but the big hill isn't fun.
Ah well done! Yes it’s the hills especially at the start and finish that’s a killer!
It really is. I managed to find a photo of me somebody took and I looked terrible. Much worse then my normal running face. The final hill is the part I dread the most because that's the most painful bit and where u win or lose
Hit was an honour! 🤣😂🤣😂
Well done Phily, since it was so hilly, to get bronze was a thrill-y
Well done Phily, great run to close the gap and net the podium. Is there a minimum standard for these races as I note you had an A and B team, or do you all compete in the same race? Thanks for the great vlogs, loved the drills explanation as this is something I've been wanting to start building into my pre race.
#gethillywithPhilly
Got county's tomorrow here
Great run by you. Watched Mark Hookways video and you had a big gap to close down.
Which is your preferred leg to run? And congratulations on your team getting 3rd
Jess Judd had a VERY solid team
What shoes were you wearing?
The video really doesn't do the hills justice. Your comment was exactly the same as mine when I finish at Sutton Park, I mean really how is it that much more uphill than down when you start and finish in the same place.
What was your heart rate on this run?
AFD the running club is by far my favourite AFD
Maccy D's after?
Ah sadly not this time! Not sure if it can technically be called a PB either but dinner was tasty nonetheless
What was the venue
Sutton Park!
I'll watch and pretend I've not seen any of your socials showing that you were 3rd
Haha shhhh 🤫
Did the blokes get a medal with a girl runner on it 😅
pin? Ur such as good runner what an inspiration
