The axillary nerve is a mixt nerve and arises from the posterior cord of brachial plexus carrying fibers from the C5 and C6 spinal nerves. After gives a branch to shoulder joint, divides into an anterior branch and a posterior branch.
The axillary nerve leaves the axilla , passing through the quadrangular space to be intimately related to the surgical neck of humerus.
The quadrangular space is boundered superiorly by the teres minor, inferiorly by the teres major, medially by the long head of triceps and laterally by the surgical neck of humerus.
Apart from the axillary nerve , the posterior circumflex humeral vessels are also passing through this space.
