A really honest and sensible review; I really like how you turn the standard car journalist tropes back on themselves, too. Most of us don't give a stuff about soft plastics, but we are bothered if the thing is more likely to break down or start giving problems after a short period of ownership. Well done - I like this Captur - but I do feel it epitomises the problem with PHEVs -- the EV efficiencies are nullified by the extra weight.

I have driven a plug-in hybrid Prius for the last 3 years and can still get 80 MPG on the petrol engine alone. The 40 MPG shocked me to be honest and is probably going to put me off. I do drive carefully so may be able to get something slightly better out of it, but that is low!

I bought the 145hp non-plug in version about 3 months ago.
Pretty happy with it so far. I have a little over 1000 miles currently in it, mixed city and country driving.
Biggest pros for me so far: the B mode (one pedal driving mode) in town, well working assistances, 360 degree parking camera is really fun, good enough mpg for me, stylish, comfortable ride, the automatic gearbox shifts well, the electronic gear lever is great.
Biggest cons: 3 people in the back have an issue with head space because of the narrow roof, trunk space is not great in hybrids (but is decent for this class), infotainment is a bit sluggish at times, the petrol engine does get a bit noisy sometimes, automatic wipers don't wipe often enough.
Overall the car might be a bit small for a family car. But it's really easy to drive (especially if your partner isn't as experienced, driving the car has been a pleasure for my girlfriend).
The price tag was great for the tech, style, mpg and comfort I got.
Also, I don't have the side mirror noise issue you mentioned in the video.

I have a Renault and 5 years in I realised that you can adjust the frequency of the automatic wipers 😅 it used to be a great source of annoyance for me but I’m so relieved it can be adjusted!!

Ahhh so you got the e-tech? Which colour did you get? I see you can only get them in black or grey now. Would love to see what the diamond black looks like

Com’on Tim, nearly 18 minutes and I’m still missing critical information. 1. How does it power slide, and 2. Is it faster than a Eurofigher around Silverstone. I’l forgive you though because you called a fellow motorist ‘knob cheese’ and kept it in the edit 👍

That’s what is missing on most reviews when they comment on rear legroom.
A normal sized person setting the drivers seat before showing the rear legroom.

I had a renault captur 1.2 turbo auto for 5 years and she was absolutely brilliant. Handled so much like my previous clios and fitted my disability Walker in. Absolutely brilliant, reliable cars are the captures. The only thing she ever needed, was a new battery 3 years in due to the low mileage. Best car I've ever driven in my 21 years of driving

I have a Clio e tech self charging hybrid and the change between electric and petrol as absolutely seamless so I'm surprised the Captur isn't the same. I also get around 60 to 65 mpg with which I am more than happy. I thought about the Captur at the time but I don't think a self charging version was available at the time (July 2021) . I'd previously had a Kadjar but found visibility an issue in as much as I couldn't see the bonnet and judge the width when manouvering - think I'm made a bit odd..either that or car manufacturers are making the seats lower to cater for tall fellers like you...Nice review.

FYI in left side land we have Bi fuel Captur, where regular 100 TCE is combined with LPG system. Saves money a lot, I need 4 pounds per 100 km. Also has full size boot. Found it new for around 13K pounds ... Simple inside, Mechanical ,still very good for money. Great video!

I'm the same height as you and couldn't live with it because of that issue?

Lovely looking thing, but I think the engine choices and sporty ride let it down.
Just a quick point, I’m sure you’re already aware, but the leg on your maxi cosi could do with shortening when the little one’s in there so your isofix base has plenty of contact with the seat cushion.

gets a phev car, reviews it without charging, doesn't even make a pure ev range test, and concludes that he would buy a pure petrol version.

I'd probably settle for the full self charging Hybrid myself, The plug in will be to much of a faff to live with to be honest and the extra weight in it wouldn't help either.

We're in the US and planning to take a European vacation this summer and I've been looking at these Capturs to rent. We'll be doing a lot of driving all over Europe. I was wondering how's the MPG on the highway and are the seats comfortable? We'll be sitting in them for hours. Also, if this isn't the suv to rent, which one would you recommend? We don't want to spend a fortune, hence the captur. But we do want some room and good mpg and for it to be comfortable. Thanks, great review btw!

A Captur will make a great holiday hire car for a european roadtrip. Assuming it isn't a hybrid, you'll get approx 40-45mpg (or a little more) on the highway pretty easily. Unless there's five of you, you won't need much more space and they're a nice size for our smaller roads. The class the Captur is in will also have some decent alternatives (since it is usually a Captur 'or similar') so should do you fine.

A 911 gt3rs that the tweet tik toc whatever reviewers talk about would get a higher school in the seat kicakbility ratings, definiently much harder for kids to kick the back of the seat 🤣
