    if you want to try this yourself there are some links in the description for materials or you can also use old food storage jars like a pickle jar f.e.

    THANK YOU for not putting fish in it AND stating it's too small for fish! Too many people making tiny aquarium videos trying to go viral then sticking a goldfish, betta, guppies, or all the above together 😢
    Honestly, you could probably get away with a few neocaridina shrimp (I can't quite tell the size though), but definitely ramshorns. I love my ramshorns. Nerites are also cool. You can get super tiny sponge filters that might work in there and super tiny heater if needed.
    I'm sorry the front turned into the back 😂

    As someone that has aquariums: yeaaaaaaaaah, those plants are gonna grow, man, BUT if you grow the same plants in a tank for long enough, they will eventually dwarf themselves 😊 You don't even need to keep the lid closed, my Tiny Tank doesn't have its lid fully closed either.
    Instead of ramshorns I recommend the teeny tiny pond snails that often piggyback into our tanks on plants and which I absolutely adore for their tiny size 🥰🥰🥰 I also have the horrible practice of not always covering the dirt in my tanks, that way any detritus just blends in perfectly.
    I already have trouble not creating tanks in every glass vase I meet, I am now facing large difficulty not making a new tank in a lidded jar 😂

    Absolutely love your humor! If you do a big enough jar, you could house a few cherry shrimp in there as well. I would wait at least a month or two before adding snails or shrimp, but this looks awesome! I've been wanting to do a closed ecosphere aquarium for a while, just don't have a big enough jar. So far it's all terrariums.

    • @HomemadeEcosystems

      Yes I'm definitly going to wait at least a month. Do you think this one is big enough for a shrimp or two?

    • @ForestOfEmeralds
      @ForestOfEmeralds Рік тому +1

      @@HomemadeEcosystems It's a little tight, but a couple of shrimp would do okay, the only thing is the they might want a hiding place or two, you could add one of those tiny shrimp caves. Keep an eye on them for the first few days after adding them just in case they seem stressed. But shrimp have a very low bio load, so a shrimp or two should not overload the jar, even with a ramshorn roommate.

    The plants are probably elodea and echinodorus.

    • @HomemadeEcosystems
      @HomemadeEcosystems  Рік тому

      Thank you!! Yes I will probably have to be carefull for algea blooms because if the dirt releases too much nutrients. I added a lot of sand too so I'm hoping that will slow down the release of nutrients. If too much algea grow, snails might be a solution

    Anubias nana should not have it's roots buried in substrate. If you do not remove it from the sand, the roots will rot and it will die rather quickly. I recommend reading up on any aquarium plant you purchase prior to using it in an aquarium so you don't make this mistake and waste your money.

    1:52 Second one is a some kind of anubias, and the third one is a canadian waterweed.

      Yes it is definitly some kind of Elodea. You think I have 2 Anubias species? That is possible, thank you!

      @@HomemadeEcosystems My first thought was that the big one might be a brazil sword (peace lilly). If it is, it will want its bigger leaves out of the water. You can tell the difference by checking the base: if it has a rhizome and looks like its growing its leaves in sequence, its an anubias; if all the leaves and roots are coming out from around the base, its a brazil sword.

    Just stumbled upon the channel and love the videos. Relaxing and entertaining.
    I am wondering tho, how does one change the water in a jar like that? You cant just tip the jar or everything will come falling out... 😅

    • @HomemadeEcosystems
      @HomemadeEcosystems  Рік тому +2

      With a plastic tube, put one end in the jar suck on the other end, get a mouth full of dirty water, spit it out, and the water should flow 🤣

    i would for sure pull the anubias at least a little bit. the anubias are epiphyte plants who have a rhizome where all of the roots and leaves come out of. if the plant is buried too much in the substrate it can rot and the plant will die. most people who do aquariums just glue them to rocks with cyanoacrylate glue which is aquarium safe and dries into an inert plastic. just a little tip for you, i would hate to see you have a plant die that you spent money on. best of luck to you though my man loving the videos

    How many times should you replace the water? The front is actually pretty good. Very cinematic and theatrical framing and staging. You just need someone else in the front to complement the plant and stone.

    • @HomemadeEcosystems
      @HomemadeEcosystems  Рік тому

      I'm going to replace it 2 -3 times completely and after that maybe once every few weeks but only half of the water. I could maybe add a small piece of wood in the front?
