Knives Out + Attack On Titan Murder Mystery, I'm sold.
Enjoyed the Divine Cities a lot. Sigrud je Harkvaldsson is probably one of my all time favs (yes I memorized his second name)
Found Foundryside really intimidating it seemed very fast paced to my liking, and the magic went from, oh its cool these are engineering principles to complicated really fast. Whole time felt like i was trying to keep up with the magic until I gave up and dropped midway on the second book.
Lets see how this one goes....
Thank you so much! I hope you will enjoy this one as much as I did. I still loved City of Stairs more because of Sigurd je Harkvaldsson, but this is another great first entry! 🙂
Look out.. here's Leo!
Here I am!! 🙂
Anulasiuuuuuumm!! Lol😂 i know you lol
@@brokenredflag good to be known lol
Thank you so much for getting me excited about The Tainted Cup. Your review was so well done I instantly pre-ordered this.
Woohoo! You're welcome. I hope you will enjoy it! 😊
This sounds so exciting! I plan to chatch up to the rest of Robert Jackson Bennet's works. I atempted "The City of Stairs" a few years ago, but in translation. I will try in the original now that I am more confident in my English understanding. Thank you for the review. I hope we will get some special editions for "The Tainted Cup".
Interesting! Here's hoping The City of Stairs in English will work better for you then! Knowing Broken Binding's determination to do a special edition of everything, it might happen! :)
This book was amazing, thank you for the recommendation! Absolutely adored both Din and Ana and their relationship. i appreciate how the author laid all the evidences and hints for the readers to figure it out along with characters instead of going for some plot twist just for the shock value. Now i’m most likely going to binge read the rest of RJB series, because his writing style is right up my alley!
Once again thank you for your wonderful recommendations, i found a lot of great books thanks to your videos ❤
You're so welcome! I am really pleased to hear you loved The Tainted Cup. Din and Ana are so fun to read together. Every fantasy book by Bennett is worth the read. Give them a try! 😁
Another fantastic video! thank you Petrik!
Thank you so much, Dino! 😊
Petrik your recommendations never fail!
Thank you! Pleased to hear that!!
Not big on murder mysteries but I'll take absolutely anything with any attack on titan comparison
The setting will definitely remind you of Attack on Titan! And it's a plus for me. I can't seem to move on since the anime ended. 🥲
@@PetrikLeo Yeah im never moving on 😦
I love a good murder mystery! Just never get to read enough because of all the fantasy on my TBR 😂 But this one's on my radar, it's sounds very intriguing 🤩 Glad you enjoyed it!!
Thank you, Karin! Definitely something to try when you want to read murder mystery in a fantasy setting! :)
sold! can’t wait for this one now 😁
Woohoo! Not too long from now! 😃
Sounds amazing. I have only read city of stairs from Robert Jackson Bennett
I find all of his science fantasy books very enjoyable! 🙂
Hey, look at cool street Petrik, rocking that jacket, my man.
And the books are cool too.
Hahaha! Thank you so much. Very kind of you! 😊
I have an arc of The Tainted Cup, and your review has me even more excited to read it!
It's so fun and entertaining! I hope you will enjoy it as much as I did! :)
Thank you for the review as always 🎉happy reading to you… 🎉
Happy reading to you, too!
The buzzwords are buzzing and they buzz real good!! I am SO excited for this one, give me all the fantasy mystery vibes 🤩🤩
Excellent review Petrik, thanks for getting me even more hyped!
Thank you so much, Esmay! It was so fun. Great fantasy mystery book. I look forward to hearing what you think about it! :)

Cheers, Sarah! I think it was fun! 🙂
Boskuuuu 😎🙌🙌
I’m definitely reading this one!
I’m halfway thru War and Peace now 🎉🎉🎉
Haha thank you! Good luck with War and Peace!!!
I read The Tainted Cup and I became an instant fan of Robert Jackson Bennett (it was my first read from RJB). I said to myself to read more of his books, and when you mentioned that this book is not RJB's first attempt at murder mystery, he also had it in Divine Cities triology, I became extremely happy.
I also figured out that I love reading the combination of murder-mystery, fantasy, sci-fi in my books. So if you have more book recommendations that have the same vibes as in this book, can you also make a video about them?
Thank you for your review 😊
You're welcome! Every fantasy book by Robert Jackson Bennett is stellar, imo. Definitely give them a read. That actually is a good idea for a video. I will note it down. Thanks for the suggestion!!
I've struggled with enjoying fantasy/mystery novels. Fantasy and Mystery are my main genres and when combined it sounds like that would be perfect for me. However, I found that the fantasy and mystery elements are diluted in these hybrid novels. A good mystery needs to have twists and surprise factor that delights the intellect. Even if I figure out the culprit, there needs to still be some surprises. At least for me. Fantasy mysteries are often kind of basic and the mystery thus very unsatisfying. I think it would be easier for a mystery writer to write a fantasy mystery than the other way around.
Based on your review and my enjoyment of the Foundryside series, I'm cautiously optimistic for this book. If it works, it could be a new favorite series for me.
That's fair! I look forward to hearing your thoughts on The Tainted Cup then. I think the mystery was well done. There was predictable twists but the details and revelations were handled nicely, imo. :)
Best new series I tried this year was Ryan Cahill's Bound and the Broken, but I loved The Way of Edan too.
Bound and the Broken is incredible. It gets so much better after the first book! 😃
@@PetrikLeo agreed, I said in my review for Of War & Ruin I wanted to give it 6 stars
Seems like an interesting read :o not that usual kind of fantasy story :)
Thank you so much, Maggy! 🙂
Great review.
Read The City of Stairs trilogy and enjoyed it. This does sound interesting. I'm sure I will pick it up.
Thank you so much, Frank! Here's hoping you'll love this one, too, then! 🙂
haha. Nice I just saved this on my wishlist!
Woohoo! Worth the wait and read!
Glad you liked it!! 😊 yumi sp3 is sooo goood i could cry.😭
guese what, i would not shut up about sanderson, so my mom is now bying tress out of curiosaty. I hope when she reeds it she turns into a sando (brandon) fan. Woho! Bey
Thank you! And Yeah!!! I loved Yumi and the Nightmare Painter so much. Such an incredible book! :)
I loved attack on titan but hated the ending. I'm willing to give this a chance only for my love of mysteries. Thanks for the reccomendation
Nothing wrong with that. It only has similarities to Attack on Titan in terms of setting. It's like how every place is guarded by a massive wall to prevent Titans from entering. :)
Love Attack on Titan so I might have to check it out (:
The setting is so reminiscent of it. So cool!
This sounds cool but I haven't been able to get into any of his books has really great world building sometimes it's just not enough action for me I have foundryside on my shelf I've started it like 2 * the pacing is what gets to me still great author though great video I'm still reading of War and Ruin looonngg booook it's amazing to me how Ryan Cahill keeps the pacing going with his writing there's never a dull moment whether it's an action scene or him building the world or characters or magic everything about this world is compelling you just want to read more
No need to force it if an author's work is not for you. Glad to hear you're enjoying Of War and Ruin! It's a massive and amazing book!
Is it purely a murder mystery or does it have have other elements as well like in the City of Stairs?
Murder mystery is definitely the main focus. It's pretty much a murder mystery story in a fantasy setting.
I read Foundryside about six months ago, but frankly the fact that the main character got into a romance didn’t sit well with me (only because I felt that she was a character that shouldn’t have had relationships. I have nothing against the LGBTQ+ community, it just felt like he was characterized as someone who was more asexual/aromantic). Regardless I am very excited to give his books another go.
I hope you will enjoy this one more than Foundryside then! :)
Comment for algorhythm. 😁
Much appreciated!! 😊
