    Son of Johan and played under Fergie I think this guy might know some things about tactics

    • @positional_play
      @positional_play 3 роки тому +48

      Ferguson wasn't really a great tactician, it was more about man-management and how to motivate his players. Unlike Michels, Cruyff, Sacchi, Guardiola, Mourinho or Klopp he never had a clear philosophy of how to play football. Yes, he wanted to play attacking football and his players to never give up, but usually it was his assistant to give the tactical instructions during training while Ferguson would watch which players worked the hardest.

      @@positional_play That is certainly not true. Ferguson was a great tactician but his man management skill was at the absolute pinnacle of world football so people were blinded by that. He used to play 442 (First CL era), 433 (Ronaldo Tevez), 4411/4231 (Rvp Rooney) and even 7 defender against another European club. His subs at half time was on point and so many times United played like another team in the second half. Because he was at the very top for such a long time, his tactics had to adapt toward new football rules each year and still won the league - looking back people always forgot that because he was the only guy who can man-manage 4 or 5 football teams for like 20 years and win pretty much everything.

    Jordi Cruyff, no. 14. I remember that I was so excited when he came to United. He was a very good player. And along with Beckham, Giggs, and Poborsky, we had a fantastic young wingers at that time.

    What a team that was! I was a young lad in the United States Army and was just getting into and learning the game of football in the early 90s. I finally had access on television to watch a lot of games from the Premier League and also the Champions League and F.A. Cup. I became a United supporter and the comebacks and excitement of those teams coached by Fergie was unlike anything I had ever seen growing up in the States!

    Very good player, Jordi. It was unfortunate that his dad was a genius and thus brought unfair comparisons. Jordi was different to his Dad, albeit not at the same level, he was technically very accomplished, and a very classy player in his own right

    When I was in London for a holiday with my parents back in '93, my dad told me that he was going to buy for me a Man Utd jersey. I got so excited, and knowing that Jordi was a new signing I choose to have his name & number printed on the kit. Ahh good times..

    Jordi was a fantastic player and I always felt didn’t get the game time he should have been able to get. Given who were in the squad at the time, Jordi I feel was like the lotus turning up when you had a Ferrari and mclaren in the garage. With the class of ‘92 in the squad and developing, it was just unfortunate that Jordi didn’t play as much as we would have liked. Had he been at any other side in the premiership then he would have started every game !!

    I've told my friends multiple times that 4-4-2 does its job individually. Many have mastered it and won trophies. Others use it as a general system to secure whatever it is that they can to stay in their league tier. Yes I'm mentioning SAF, Claudio Ranieri, Christophe Galtier and Sean Dyche. Solksjær used it in-game a lot to defend and goes back to a 4-2-3-1 when attacking. Hopefully his system could sustain and challenge the other teams to win the premier league. (Too much optimism I guess) Apart from that I just love it when I see teams playing in a 4-4-2.

    Amazing how players, managers who have worked in multiple leagues say England is the difficult one, really tough, yet fans of the Spanish team will never accept that football in England is tougher than Spain.

    • @JuanManuelLinaresBloggerDeNiro
      @JuanManuelLinaresBloggerDeNiro 3 роки тому +1

      It depends on what you consider "harder" or "tougher". For example, no wonder there are almost no English players (or ex Premier League stars) playing in Spain, and the ones who did didn't exactly succeed (Owen, Beckham, Coutinho, Hazard, e.g.). Besides, most Premier League good players would look embarrassed and ridiculous trying to play La Liga football (slow down, passing, individual technic skills, positional playing, etc.). It's a difficult switch in both directions. And truth is, when FC Barcelona coached by Guardiola, at the top of its style, faced ManU twice, the English team had no chance. English football has been historically faster, more physical, "tougher" if you want. But with all respects, kind of basic. This is changing nowadays due to great non-English coaches coaching there: Guardiola, Klopp, Tuchel, Conte, even Pochettino back in the day. Actually, I'm pretty sure that the current dominating position of Premier League is owed to them.

    this channel and graham hunter's channel and the high performance podcast don't get enough views considering their quality, value as content and the reach of football in general.
    blooper real reaction videos get 100 times the views and even pro wrestling interviews get 10 times as much. go figure.
