  • I'm sick of the engine beeping because of overheating. I, finally, decided to look into the problem.
    I hope this video will help some of you.

    I have the same motor only mines a 1996. today I had the alarm for over heating and the engine was hot as well as the water coming out the pee hole the guy I bought it from said he replaced the impeller recently because when using the muffs he couldn’t get a good stream of water. So it’s not the impeller and after watching your video I now have a good idea what my problem is. Thank you for posting

    I learned recently poppet valves can be the issue.

    I have a later model that has a high operating temperature..( 145)..i got the operating temperature down by cutting the spring to reduce the tension in the poppet valve seat. Now its running in the 120's

      It makes a lot of sense tl me that poppet would start opening easier by cutting the spring.
      Can you tell us the final length of your spring, or how many turns of the coil to cut off?
      Water pressure should start opening the poppet valve at 1500rpm in perfect conditions, but might be lower than normal from a number of reasons.

    Not related to the issue in this video but I have a very similar motor. Does your motor “pee” right away when you start it? Mine takes a few minutes and the water coming out is very hot. I was told the impeller was changed when I bought the boat but I’m not fully convinced. Thanks!

    Never losen or tighten a nut/bolt with the open end of a wrench. Besides that good luck with the replacement thermostat.

    Thanks for the video , I have a mercury 150hp opitimax and I gave me a continues beeping when high throttle….is that the beet you got ? I was also getting the 4 beeps but Ive already replaced the oil reservoir and sensor and that took care of that problem , but now gave me the continuous 1 beep but only on high throttle….

    Also my temp guage isn’t working. Any ideas?

    • @VDXOutdoors
      @VDXOutdoors  Рік тому

      I would start by checking to see if the thermostats are working properly. Check the springs and clean the build-up of gunk. If the thermostats are OK, then see if there are any debris in the hoses.
      If the temperature gage is not working, check the wiring from dash to the motor to see if there are any breakages. There is a guy on youtube who will show how you can test the temperature sensor.

    easiest way to see if your thermostat is working or not is put it in a pot of boiling water.

    One question , motor pee water little hot, warm, or cold water,

    • @VDXOutdoors
      @VDXOutdoors  Рік тому

      It should be warm to hot water coming out of the pee whole because the water would have run through the motor, first the back out

      💥Buddy, I've been fighting a problem since I got the boat. I'm 2nd owner. 80 year old man had ordered new in 2001. Clean as a whistle! Nitro 882 w/ 150 efi merc. Everything runs great, starts great the whole ball of wax, wasn't used much. BUT.. when going on a "longer" run (4 to 8 miles) IT JUST DIES, ( any rpm) like the kill switch was pull. STARTS RIGHT BACK UP and goes 100% of the time... might do it again going back to truck, might not. $1,300 in mechanics, everything checked twice ( fuel pumps, gas lines, voltage ect, ect,ect!) What could it be!!?? Trial n error.. where to start?

    • @scottjacopian3191
      @scottjacopian3191 Рік тому +1

      Meant to send that to VDX outdoors. I hope He gets it.

    • @VDXOutdoors
      @VDXOutdoors  Рік тому

      @scottjacopian3191 It's hard to say what the problem would be, but I would start with taking the Killswitch apart and checking the wiring. Then check your fuel filter to make sure it's clean. Take apart the carborater and clean it thoroughly. If you don't use the boat much, there could be carbon on build-up in the carborater. These are some of the possibilities causing the engine to bog down or dies while accelerating.
      Before the boat dies on you, are there any warning signs like beeping or hesitation?

    • @scottjacopian3191
      @scottjacopian3191 Рік тому +1

      @VDXOutdoors man thanks! Fuel lines all good. New kill switch double checked. Have not checked screens in injectors... mechanics have checked both fuel pumps. All is vented well. It gives no warning before it does it. 2 mechanics, each with (2 hours) on the water time$$ and the boat wouldn't do it!! It's a crazy thing. Think i may start with new fuel pumps.??
