  • this is the same as the AC Delco impact wrench that is way cheaper and with a much longer warranty or you can get the AC Delco brushless impact with 2 batteries for almost the same price as this. this Harbor Freight earthquake is not a good value
    EQ12XT-20V, this is Harbor Freight impact wrench it is pretty powerful reasonably well built but they cut a bunch of cost by not having a balanced battery charger even though they're using a nicer lithium ion LG cell it's kind of a shame it does have power just worry about the battery . .

    Got one two years ago. I was a virgin to cordless and the price for the kit was much cheaper than store prices for the Milwaukee kits at the time. That said I am in the rust belt and was amazed at the power as it has done everything I want it to from popping seized suspension bolts to nasty ball joints in a C press and everything in between. One feature I really appreciate is the electronic brake which stops the anvil instantly. I have no regrets as the gun has more than paid for itself and has been far more convenient than air. If I were to do it again it would be the brushless variety.

    I was really happy with this when I got it, then I got the Milwaukee one and it blows this away in terms of build quality and how hard it hits. It looks like they are releasing a grease gun and they obviously have the grinder, but the price is close enough, and Milwaukee’s warranty is good enough that it’s hard not to just choose that at this point. I now keep this in my truck with some sleeved sockets for changing tires, and it’s ideal for that

    Bought the 3/8 Earthquake XT last year on some kind of sale (forget exact price) last year. At first I thought I made a mistake when I couldn't get a lug nut off one of my cars. Got my 1/2 inch beast air impact out and when it struggled to get that same nut off at about 150 psi, I instantly felt better. I guess on the last new tire install, they really over torqued them...surprise surprise. Over all very happy with the Earthquake since.

    Video is very good. Not long ago, because I needed to buy a torque drilling rig of the Renhotecic brand, I used it for a while, and it felt very good to use. It is recommended that friends in need can try to prepare one.

    As always a well done comprehensive review and well bought at the price paid. If it were not discounted the DeWalt or Milwaukee High Torque brushless offerings would be better choices with far better warranties.

      I actually end up getting my milwaukee tools pretty close to what you can get Bauer or other HF cordless tools for, I just wait for a sale at Home Depot with batteries and a free tool included. The price averages about the same as what you pay for a tool and batter/charger at HF. So, since the price is the same, it's Milwaukee for me. Lol I even bought a couple of Milwaukee markers the other day that were cheaper than the 2 pack of Sharpies they also had ad HD.

    I might consider Harbor Freight power tools, but they have four lines of 18/20 volt Lithium batteries (Warrior/Bauer/Hercules/Earthquake XT). Surely the Earthquake XT 20 volt tools could have been sold under the Bauer or Hercules brands. HFT may be cheaper -- and I'm not even sure about that if you shop sales -- but at least I know that if I need a power tool, Milwaukee (in my case) will offer a tool that works with the batteries I own. The same is true for Dewalt, Makita, Bosch, Ryobi, and others.

    I have both the 3/8 and 1/2 Earthquake impacts. They use the same battery. I bought the 1/2 Earthquake over the Milwaukee because the Milwaukee was $400 for the kit at the time. The Earthquake removes the Honda crank bolt every time which is probably the tightest bolt in the auto industry.

    I had this for just over a month. I loved it! Until one day I was using it to remove a bolt on a semi trailers dolly legs. It kept spinning when I let go of the trigger. Also the selector switch was stuck. I took off the battery. Then put it back on. I heard some nasty noises coming from it. Plus the torque wasn't the same. I ended up returning and got my money back.

    Assuming you're comfortable opening up the battery pack, it is possible to wire the unbalanced cell directly to terminals in an 18650 battery charger. Make sure to get the polarity right and use good alligator clips so it doesn't pop off and short to something during the charge. I've had good luck keeping some cheap battery packs going this way, only having to open it up every year and a bit.

    • @CatusMaximus
      @CatusMaximus  4 роки тому +1

      Yes there's just a simple circuit board on this battery you can easily hook it up to a remote control car balance charger but it will require just a little bit of modification so you wouldn't have to open the battery pack every time you wanted to balance charge it

    I just had to bring back my battery for this tool because the charger was saying the battery was fully charged but the "battery level" indicator lights on the battery itself recorded no charge at all and the tool wouldn't operate, is that the "cell failsafe mode" you were talking about?
    Edit: they gave me a new battery no questions asked though!

    That thing is a beast. If a bolt is capable of turning, that impact will turn it....
    I have the smaller/lighter baby brother, the Earthquake XT 3/8 compact impact wrench. Now that you brought to light the inadequate charging, I'm nervous my battery won't last. What is the best way to store these batteries? For instance, I only use my 3/8 drive cordless impact wrench maybe 3 or 4 times a year, the rest of the time it's sitting in it's case. Im pretty sure I have the identical battery and charger that your bigger one has. I did know enough to store it inside where the temperature is relatively consistent. I'm curious on what state-of-charge would be best. Should I charge it fully and store it? Should I drain it down maybe halfway and store it? 3/4? I know storing them completely dead is bad. What is ideal?

    •  4 роки тому +1

      Halfway is always the best for lithium ions. About 40 percent I think they say is the best to store them at.

      I got me a Porter Cable corded impact wrench and I am happy with this it. I bought it to take a big bolt our of a washer drum when I fixed my washer, someone in UA-cam recommended using an impact wrench. I also use it to remove my car tires to rotate them or when installing new brakes. With a 470 pound torque is more than enough for your needs. The average torque for a tire bolt is 100 to 120 pounds. Price was for this $80 new. It fits my needs. I don't need something like the Xtreme HF impact wrench with over 1000 pounds or torque. I am not building a bridge so the Porter cable is a good option if you want to save and don't mind being a corded tool.

      Battery packs are made of multiple smaller cells. The smaller cells are not exactly the same because they're based on chemistry because of that be discharged and recharged at slightly different levels a balance charger has wires going to each individual cell to make sure that none are overcharged or undercharged with this Bauer it just treats all the cells is one big battery meaning that if one of the Sal's becomes too low and voltage far too high then it can fail ruining the whole battery pack because the charger can't custom charge each individual cell properly it is a major cost-cutting maneuver and it is disappointing on this impact wrench because it's over $200

    WTF is a balanced charger?

    • @CatusMaximus
      @CatusMaximus  2 роки тому

      Cell balancing is the process of equalizing the voltages and state of charge among the cells when they are at a full charge. No two cells are identical. Balance charging (like in all professional brand cordless tools) have a bunch of wire connecting to all the battery cells so it charges each cell (or cell pair) individually.
      It means that there is increased risk of fire and the battery pack will not last as long because it will overcharge weak cells trying to bring the pack up to full charge.

    You're crazy I got the same gun and batteries last forever. Unlike 5ampXR DeWalt battery you use them for 2 years, and throw them on a voltmeter and the cells are only holding half the charge, as in run time. Plus you put that DeWalt half inch impact wrench up against that half-inch earthquake Xt, and it will thrash that DeWalt. I own both I know for a fact. The only way the DeWalt half inch impact wrench puts out decent power, is with the 20/60 flex battery.
