Potato skins are decent at osmosis, but microwaving creates steam too fast for them to contain. If you don't poke the holes, there is a greater chance of the potato exploding, like microwaved eggs.
Just say whooster sauce you don’t have to add Shire
for the record, asmongold is one of the biggest youtubers on the platform, he also has a huge
twitch following. he doesnt look like it at all but hes very loaded, he just prefers not to show it.
I just got some bone-in NY strips. $5.99/lb for choice and $6.99/lb for Angus. Both were 1/2-3/4 of an inch thick, with nice marbling and very little bone, almost none. So for less money than this dude spent, I had steak dinner for two for $6 plus inexpensive sides. Potato and simple salad.
I don’t think I’ll try the lemon pepper, but I did get a free bottle of Weber “Kickin’ Chicken” seasoning, and I used that, Montreal steak seasoning and Kosher flake salt. The Weber has very little salt.
Some of the best steaks I’ve had all grilling season, and I’ve got money left over to have some good drinks and spirits afterwards.
Loved the reaction to a reaction, and all the info during it. After watching all these videos, I believe my basic steak grilling is as good as Guga and others. 135 medium rare, and simple seasoning. Now if I could only make some sides like all you chefs.
Peace Brian et al
Hey Brian btw Asmongold is like Pewdiepie big
Asmon is literally the definition of don't judge a book by its cover. The guy looks and acts like he lives in Section 8 housing off of food stamps. But he could easily afford to eat a 16 oz A5 Wagyu Ribeye every single day if he wanted.
multi millionaire just vibin
yea asmongold is basicly his character... but he still is pretty down to earth tbh.
@@rahar_peruits not a character its literally how he is since day 1.
asmongold is a hobo monk millionaire.
@@WWE2KUNIVERSEELITE yea, i said character, not facade haha...
Honestly, I can understand Asmon's thoughts on not wanting to "upgrade" to better steaks.
Once you acquire that taste, you can never go back.
But if you keep eating the same things, you will be satisfied with what you have.
Considering that he comes from a poorer background than most, I can respect that.
the dog strats
Actually true... I mean I really can't compare with those fastfood chain but the "Premium" McCrispy Chicken is 10 times better than the regular McChicken or Chickenburger in generell... It's prob. not worth the price but I'd pay some better burger than just basic chickenburger.
Kinda silly, because I've always eaten the good steaks, and I can still eat a Wendy's burger. lol
Yeah.
There is a small part of me that wishes I'd never tried single malt scotch because sometimes I can only afford "how long till ATF raids this distillery for lying that this is bourbon"
I don't accept that you can't "go back" to something cheaper. It's called moderation. That's a personal problem, not a problem of exposure.
Asmon is a streamer, and he’s got a few business enterprises now. Dude is a multimillionaire but you wouldn’t know it with the way he lives 🤣
yeah its kind of insane. He lives in the house he grew up in he doesn't spend any money.
Bro the thousands of hours of content asmong gets from this one video is wild lmao
This video is 20 minutes. Asmon will probably turn it into a good hour and a half
I am floored how the insanity of one man caused the food world to come unglued. Also there is a sequel to this where he makes a pizza.
The pizza one is good too
Asmongold had mentioned this before. He would get his steaks from a place where they only accepted food stamps. It was something like that. I can find the video where he talked about it. It was sometime after he reacted to the first video reacting to his steak video.
I used to have a combination microwave, Large baked potato took 20 minutes on the microwave and fan oven setting. Came out amazing and crispy skin.
Now I use the air fryer. Lots of stabbing, Light spray of oil and some garlic salt. Even better than putting them in a fire in foil...
you don't even have to saran wrap it... just throw the potatoes in there with the corn, husk intact, and give it a rip .. of course you got to open it and check because time's very on potatoes and corn and it's quite obvious... but yeah corn cooked in the husk in a microwave is legit or on the grill..still in the husk of course... it's almost like the husk seals in that freshness and flavor while cooking.
A microwave is a good method for cooking a potato since all it's doing is steaming the potato. A microwave emits of a frequency that perfectly aligns with water molecules to make them vibrate faster. It's great for heating up liquids, but it's also great for potatoes, since those water molecules have nowhere to go if the skin is still on, hence it just steams the potato. The reason why you don't cook, say, a steak in a microwave is because it basically has a similar effect to boiling it in water. It's going to be very tough and very grey.
I do that kind of meat with high heat with a weight on top until seared on one side which doesn't take long and then turn it over for 2-3 seconds. If you eat it immediately you can make it less done than well.
Poking a potato does not make a better potato, no. What it does do is defuse the bomb hidden inside of the potato.
He bought his beef from HEB and I can tell from the packaging. HEB as of right now has beef ranging from $4.99 a lb at cheapest up to $39lb on the shelves. The later is usually American Wagyu beef cuts. The average Prime cut of meat is like $13 per pound. Choice is about $9 on average and Select is about $6 on average a pound. Of course ground beef is typically cheaper than that. The problem is I can easily eat a pound of meat (pre-cooked) in any given meal. So if I made a steak for every meal I would probably be broke based on what I consider enough for a meal.
The reason to poke the potato in the microwave is it can explode from steam not always but it can happen
Asmongold is like the OG WOW pro player/streamer. Dude lives like a hermit/monk and is super ultra frugal but has more money than a lot of Hollywood celebs and corporate CEOs. Like he could probably buy a full quarter of Fort Knox if he wanted to.
Speaking of cholesterol, I had a t-bone steak previously, then a rib eye in the same restaurant. I can literally see the solidified grease that came from the t-bone a few minutes after it cooled down. That was unappetizing. Good thing it didn’t happen to the rib eye that came in after I was done with the t-bone.
It must have been the bone that helped cool the t-bone which resulted to that scenario.
LOL - you poke your potatoes with a fork because they explode in the microwave if you don't :)
I think it depends on the microwave power/size of potatoes/cook time.
You gotta poke holes in potato when microwaving so it doesn't turn your microwave into a bomb
This is a reaction I never could have predicted 😂
crazy how someone with so much money wish to live like that
And..... look up the logo for his pc's. Skyforge if i remember right.
"He looks like a gamer", I am offended
Asmond is a gamer, he is just frugal. He is an owner of a streaming org. He lives with his mom in his childhood home. Saying this he is worth millions.
My guess on the sticker on Guga’s computer was correct! I called it the first time I saw it on Guga’s computer.

lol love chuck steak. love Ribeye love prime rib.
Gotta correct you on your math, brother. Listen closely. “Even if it’s a pound of steaks, $7 a pound…” why divide by 16oz. to figure out the price per pound?
16oz is the same as 1 pound.
And look how thin those steaks are. A pound is being generous. A pound and a half? Not a chance. I’m gonna guess those are about 3oz per steak.
$7 per pound is $7 per 16oz. No dividing necessary!
I actually kinda respect the guy. He's a simple man doing simple things.

I think Asmon enjoying his steaks and not wanting a great steak because it will make his cheap steaks feel lesser makes a ton of sense. I think his logic makes a ton of sense.

No asmon is a pathetic streamer hippy with no sense of self respect.
Diogenes was a filthy man who rarely take a bath and shamelessly choke his snake in public... yeah, that Asmon for sure

The amount of content that this $2 steak generated is simply prodigious.

I’ve seen people try his recipe and say it isn’t that bad, but could never understand how. Your explanation about the unintentional benefit of using a cold pan makes total sense! I still would never use high heat for this cut though
Having seen Asmongold's original steak video, Guga and Joshua's reaction to it, and Asmongold's reaction *to* that reaction, I can't wait to see his reaction to your reaction to Guga and Joshua's reaction of his video 😁😁
Also y'all need to get together and cook amazing steaks for Asmongold! ❤
😂
I liked the one with Onigiri making his steak and Asmon reacting to that video.
As he said, this video have made him so much content... Like best investment ever...
I thought Asians were good at math. 7 dollars for a pound of steak is 7 dollars a pound.
4:50 Honestly, in my opinion, microwave-baked potato isn't just a _viable_ technique, I _prefer_ it. They tend to come out way fluffier and more flavorful than an oven bake once you get the timing down, without developing the unpleasant texture that it tends to have directly under the skin in an oven bake.
I prefer microwave but cooking for the family it's easier to use the oven, especially if I'm roasting other veggies.
To my mind, any potato is a good potato, but I usually start mine off in the microwave to save time, then crisp the skin in the oven. It's not often possible to do, but my absolute favorite potato is one that's been wrapped in foil and nestled down under the embers of a wood fire overnight. Nothing like it, best breakfast ever. Great for sweet potatoes, too,
You have brain damage
A fact about Asmon that will help make his steak preference make more sense, is that one of his favorite foods is beef jerky. So what he is essentially doing is more akin to making non-dried jerky, not a traditional steak.
Asmongold is a massive streamer. You should react to his pizza next. He has a huge net worth now but grew up poor. He maintains that simple lifestyle.

Poking holes in the potato before microwaving prevents that horrible "scream." You know, when the potato is cooking and steam escapes from under the skin. It sounds like the potato is screaming. Maybe it's just me...
Chef Brian could you overnight me a couple of your sandwiches? (Sigh...)😂😂😅❤
It also prevents the potato from literally exploding.
@@truec yes that's true. I just hate that potato scream!
I forked it almost all the way through several times and it still screamed at me after 2 minutes at 600w.
Gave me a heart attack.
@@nouhorni3229 lol yeah that sound is weird!
@@truecI grew up stabbing them before oven baking too because they'll explode there too.
If you don't poke holes in your potatos, some of them tend to explode, making a mess everywhere.
My theory is that the holes help the steam escape without freaking out the whole neighborhood at 2 in the morning from the loud bang.
totally agree, I cook them there when I just want one, if I go to cook 2kg maybe in the steamer. For the microwave, poke the potato is a safety thing, the skin can retain the vapor inside and since the water heat more fast can explode, poke the skin help to relive presure inside.
that is what the holes are for. if you trap steam in a closed off area pressure will build and either the potato goes boom or the moment you puncture the skin you get hit by almost super heated steam. which is the same reason you dont want to microwave a cup of water because yes it will get hot but it would also trap super heated steam under the surface tension so the moment you break it its just a volcano of pain. many people have gotten hurt from it
"Asmongold not knowing his fundamentals, has worked in his favor" Truer words have never been spoken.
Asmongold probably has more money than God, yet lives like Grouch.
$7 steak that is 1.5 lbs means it is roughly $4.65/lb (calculated in my head there). You were calculating per OUNCE. If it were $0.35/lb, it would be lower than dog food.
I feed that steak to my dog lol. No joke...looks like an inside round type of cut...$5 Canadian a pound...my dog gets as a treat
@@yuldogster5735 I meant steak that is 35cents per pound being lower grade than dog food.
@@LongBeachDragon yeah 35cents a pound is like meat destined for things no one wants to know about
@yuldogster5735 My last dog was a steak snob... literally. At a BBQ, I set aside a piece of a regular sirloin for him. That loveable bastard snatched my ribeye when I turned back and left his sirloin in his bowl on the floor. I was so angered by it but I couldn't stop laughing while looking at him with that "you're a bad boy" look. Lesson learned: keep the ribeye up higher. LOL
@@LongBeachDragon Smart pooch! Hahahha
I think one of the hidden bonuses of Asmon cooking, and being the massive gaming streamer that he is, is that he might get other gamers to try cooking by how he takes away prestige and drama from it. Might help quite a few people how's intimidated by cooking their own food.
For a second I thought they were all in one set together!! 😂😂
What happened to your fingers?! Did you try Kay’s patented hand chopping technique?
Please react to Kay’s cooking tuna tacos. The first one is made without tortillas. She did a second version, but we are here for the unfiltered Kay. 😂
I still can’t get over her cheesecake. The cut to the after was too good.
The math was rough on the $/lb, you were looking at $/oz. 43 cents/lb means his $2 steak would be an almost 4 lb steak!
“That’s a pound of steak for 7 dollars, that’s .43 cents per pound” uh… what? It’s 7 dollars
@@dekulruno😂😂😂 it broke my brain.
let's just say he plays a lot of games and can defend himself in argument. that's why many people like him.
I used to do the poke holes and microwave method constantly as a broke kid. I've heard anecdotes of potatoes exploding if they weren't poked due to steam buildup, but that could easily be urban food legend.
It's not an urban legend, but it won't happen every single time and if you wrap the potato in paper towel, even if it does pop, it won't splatter all over your microwave.
I don't know about the microwave but in the oven the potatoes can explode. I have had it happen and cleaning that mess out of the oven is a nightmare. ❤
I died inside a little when chef brian tried to calculate the price per pound

Yea beef that thin as he's holding there I'd definitely say grab a wok and flash fry that bad boy :') There's no point even trying to get it juicy and tender so might as well get it a bit of a crisp to it and throw it in with some fried rice.
I can't wait for the collab you and frenchie did with guga. I got a feeling frenchie was more excited for guga's side dishes! 😂
I remember my dad, being so broke that he bought a cheap steak from the "Dog food" section at this meat market. The propane tank was almost empty so he didn't want to waste gas heating the pan. Instead he threw the meat directly on the burner and sprinkled salt and pepper. I remember it being one the best steaks I had in my life, at that point in my life!
How funny! When I was much younger and much poorer, I used to buy ground meat that was labeled "pet food only". I did use a pan and cooked it up with whatever else I could scrounge. It tasted vaguely of chicken, so when I had to serve it to my boyfriend I let him know it was another "chickenshit night". Over 40 years later, we're both still alive, so I guess it didn't cause any damage
"dog food" meat is generally just poorer grade meat. I'm sure it's still perfectly edible lol
Sad and wholesome.
I’m kinda not even mad about it. Like you said, he may have accidentally fell ass-backwards into the appropriate way to make a somewhat decent “low-rent” slightly sinewey “Steak-Umms” type situation. I appreciate you not punching down too hard on some obviously goofy cooking approaches like this type of thing, because I was like… “this might not be terrible considering the ingredients.” Will it be amazing? Meh. I’ve enjoyed room temp Boyo beef-a-roni in a can before. Who am I to judge? 🤔
You gotta see his pizza video, he makes a pizza…kinda😂
Asmon's food is not bad, it's not good either but it's def cheap. Honestly quality/$ is pretty damn good. He does not enjoy cooking and def not cleaning so it also fits these criteria. Reasoning for not wanting to upg is also solid, if you upg you can't go back but also he does not wish to have more cooking time or cleaning to do. He has is routine, had it for who knows how many years and he'll not change it.
I know this video is mainly about cooking steak, but I've got to give props to Brian's mom on cooking corn in the microwave. I used to grow a couple of varieties of sweet corn, and of course the absolute best way to eat it is raw, straight off the stalk, still standing in the garden - but not many of us can do that. To me, second best is to wrap it in a bit of cling film, nuke it about 90 seconds, then give it a squeeze of lime. As the corn gets older and the sugars start converting to starch, it's time to pull out the grill and get creative. Many will disagree, but to me the worst way to cook corn is to boil it.
Brian: $7 divided by 16 ounces, that's still 43 cents a pound!
Ummmm.... If a pound of steak costs $7, then it's $7 a pound.
Steak really is a "treat yoself!" Kind of food for me. I've had filet mignon once. At Disneyland Blue Bayou. When I proposed. Sure. I always have some 1 dollar frozen piece of schlitt Salisbury steak in my freezer... but a good steak is something to really remember.
Also, his video literally describes exactly who he is lol. That is his personality, living style, and thought process. If it works its good enough
Brian I love your videos man, but as an Asian cook and getting the math wrong in the steak equation for pricing, I feel like you just upset the Asians more than Jamie Oliver has hahaha. It might be 29 cents an ounce, but not a pound lol
As a simple man myself and a GAMER, I completely understand Asmon. As you guys might not be in touch with the gaming scene, seeing this channel react to Asmon just brings a smile to my face.
Yes. Get up at 3 pm because you been gaming until 7 am. Need something cheap, quick, cooked. Best, after a night of soda and coffee. 7$ 4 steaks. Yes! ❤😂
Dude should get himself a crockpot. There are so many lazy recipes that you just set and forget, even with steak. I think the best way to cook a steak that thin is the aburi style with a blowtorch or implement designed to scorch rather than fry. I also think he'd save money if he bought thicker cuts and portioned them down himself.
Ahahaha so glad to see this video still getting reactions after a year of it being out, Asmons cooking could be sold in those "How To for Dummies" books. Also his kitchen is eerily similar to the one I grew up with + I'm a degen gamer like him so I can relate heavily to his content.
I can't wait for someone that's an actual chef that's reacted to his video to do a collab with him someday. Or with his whole Org for an Event of some sort. It would be legendary to see one huge collab with all your friends and his friends.
*Oh almost forgot, Asmon also does a podcast with two friends.. One of which is a Huge Guga fan and he's talked about somehow reaching out to get him on. So maybe that could be the Catalyst to it all.*
multi millionaire making 2 dollar steaks brah. His mom passed away and i'm not sure if this is the only thing he ever made himself or the best meal his mom made for him so its huge nostalgia. He's a very unique character so the video doesn't really do justice to who Asmon actually is.
You said '1 pound of steak for $7...that is 16 ounces therefore 43 cents a pound'. No, if it were 1 pound for $7, it's $7 a pound. :)
Asmon learned to make millions of dollars hanging out and playing video-games. There's nothing accidental about his genius.
What I love most about Asmongold is that he's a multi-millionaire but he still lives exactly like he's always has. You have to respect him for that shit.
Asmongold has the most annoying face in the history of mankind. Like, you see it, and you just want to land on it with a running dropkick.

Have to poke the tater if you put in microwave, it'll blow up if ya don't.
He fed his steak to some of his fellow streamers recently, and they said it tastes like good beef jerky.
The math hurts me, $7 divided by 1.5 lbs is $4.67/lb.
So asmongold isn't poor. He's a millionaire. He was a gamer, but in my opinion he really isn't that big into gaming, more so just ripping content off others and adding very little. I remember many videos where he would use others original content, and would just say a few words like "unhuh", nod his head, stuff like that. I know your channel is mostly about reacting, but you at least are a trained chef and have stuff to add.
I think you are confusing XQC or even Hasan with Asmongold. Most of his reaction videos end up being 3 to 4 times longer than the actual video and he usually ask the original video creator before reacting to it. If they ain't okay with it he actually removes the video or not react to it. And most of the video reactions are video posted on his reddit to begin with.
It's curious that people are applauding that he's a multi-millionaire but is then not spending it on his lifestyle. At which point, what is he doing with that wealth? Is he giving it all to charitable causes? Or is he just hoarding it? Because if it's the latter, that's actually pretty awful since it means that money is more-or-less leaving the economy. We, rightly, complain about billionaires hoarding their wealth, so why would it be any different here?
There's also a moral argument that in this lifestyle, he's actually taking stuff that actual poor people need. If he takes the last cheap flat steak, then it means another family who might need it and can't buy any alternatives due to their budget will have to go hungry. Pretty rubbish behaviour!
Uh not really given that is literally all he eats and he eats Chipotle and like fast food too.
Azmongold he's a Rich streamer nerd that lives like a broke.
You know he has a KitchenAid there why not just grind that into a hamburger
Choice Chuck goes for $7.99/lb where I'm from 😔
Why does Guga have a Brian Tsao sticker? Why is he simping?
Asmongold is hilarious because his combined wealth is more than guga+Joshua+Brian put together but he is very frugal with his spending which is kind of his trademark really.
Asmon got a struggle steak, so to say
Plus, if he's still hungry, he can just eat a cookie 💯
Microwaving a potato is even equally bad is wrapping it in foil when baking it in the oven. The potato needs to release moisture, otherwise it just gets gummy and unpleasant.
Oh yeah, and I should also mention that potatoes can explode when cooking if you don't pierce through that middle layer. (Ask me how I know!)
So I’m reacting to you reacting to Guga reacting to a guy cooking a steak 🥩 😅
asmongold is a simple man he was there during the black death in World of Warcraft
Butter that tatter with some sour cream and chives baby.
Someone who can cook actually recreated his steak as best as he could, and it ended up being pretty tasty beef jerky. While not a good steak, it's how he likes it and for the most part as far as I can tell, the guy enjoys having a simple life. And based on other videos I've seen of the guy, it seems like he thinks of things like gluttony as a slippery slope into worsening your life down the line. If he's already plenty happy.
Also reminds me of a few statements regarding millionaires. Most functional millionaires live below their means, because they're saving up their money. While those who splurge tend to remain in a spiral of debt. Usually you wouldn't expect someone who looks ordinary to be a millionaire, but since they're investing in their future self rather than their current self, it's actually not much of a surprise.
I like that Asmongold watches people react to this video and just laughs at himself lol.
We're is hair net. Would not eat anything he makes .
Nobody else pointing out the whole "$7 for 1 lb of meat is like $.49 per pound..." for those who were wondering, if 1 lb costs $7 that makes it $7/lb... I see that he addressed it.
As a 17 year Warcraft veteran and recent Asmon follower on the UA-cam and Twitch I really like that the money he has earned has not changed his lifestyle much. He is almost like Warren Buffet driving his 20 year old car.
Chef needs to go back to math school!!! 😂
A lot of gamers eat a protein-rich meal every 16 hours a pretty good strategy when you're fat and disabled (yes I'm talking about me and not offending folks) yes I'm losing weight by walking but having a once-a-day big meal when I was covid-lockdown in the house.
all my friends blew up like balloons with their ''wrong taught'' 3 times a day meals well I lost weight! and enjoyed great meals!
you are like an engine when you push the engine it needs more fuel but living like a couch potato for a year I didn't need all that fuel I got by fine with one big meal!
and I liked to eat,... all 400 pounds of me! now I'm below 195! and lowering!! and still enjoying great and bad foods all I do is lower the volume of my stomach over a number of years.
going quick will make you go bungy with your weight and you might end up with more than you started with.
so go slow! and low like smoking and further preparing a Picanha steak! In the end... perfection!!!!
A Little more respect towards gamers please. Many of the gamers on youtube and twitch are much more than the "basement dwellers" the non gamers think. The gaming community has come a long long way. They are not only gamers, they tend to be the gamer voice when the industry tries to fck them over with Asmongold having been very focal when it comes to predatory practices like microtransactions. Many of the big names in the gaming community will use their platform for charity purposes. e.g Jacksepticeyem, PewDiePie or the Gaming Theorists who generate millions every year for causes like St Jude Childrens Hospital. Putting 12 year olds and gamers in one sentence is highly disrespectful and frankly a bit dishonest. I like your content but please don't throw around stereotypes that are outdated and very much untrue. Don't judge a book by it's cover. Laugh about his cooking, don''t judge him because he is a gamer.
fyi I don't even follow Asmongold but I have been in the gaming community literally since PONG was released. I have seen the progress they have made over the decades. It is time people stop seeing them as the low hanging fruit, the basement dwellers, the socially awkward. They have done more for the youtube community at large than any other group out there.
Not mad, slightly disappointed, still liking the video.
10:35 Chef Brian is the first one out of the myriad of content creators that have reacted to Asmon's steak to catch that, while I'm not particularly a fan of it it's funny how a lot of cooking creators replicate the video and actually find the steak serviceable and even good sometimes. At the end of the day, cooking is about honoring the igredients we cook with, but fuck it's also about ingesting things you actually enjoy, and no amount of technique or tradition will ever dictate your paladar (though, you're better off if it does lol)
While I don't watch his content much, I do really like Asmongold. However, I was laughing when you mentioned "some people can't afford a nicer steak." Dude is one of the top earners on the Twitch platform. He just lives a very humble life, living in modest house, and eating cheaper food. He's not interested in living the life of a rich / wealthy person.
As mexican that kind of steak is what we get if we ask for steak, I never cook that high because you will get a not cook or burn and dry, there is no space for "flavor" (I don't understand how raw is good for you guys). I put some oil and then cook slowly until is pink in the exposed side and gray in the cooked, then flip and wait again, you may not get a juicy steak, but that is ok, for that is the salad. You put that on tacos and is delicious OpO
Just for cost. you can in the UK go to Morrisons a supermarket. and get Denver steak 300g pack with 2 in for apx £4 but can get 3 packs for £10. so this would be cheaper than the $2 price.
But you can get 3 thin cut for £3.99 a pack. but his steak is even thinner than them.
the steak is thinner than the plate. to not just wash a plate that would not pay that much for a paper plate.
I like your grind farming Guga and Josh farming Asmongold +1
