Potato skins are decent at osmosis, but microwaving creates steam too fast for them to contain. If you don't poke the holes, there is a greater chance of the potato exploding, like microwaved eggs.

I just got some bone-in NY strips. $5.99/lb for choice and $6.99/lb for Angus. Both were 1/2-3/4 of an inch thick, with nice marbling and very little bone, almost none. So for less money than this dude spent, I had steak dinner for two for $6 plus inexpensive sides. Potato and simple salad.
I don’t think I’ll try the lemon pepper, but I did get a free bottle of Weber “Kickin’ Chicken” seasoning, and I used that, Montreal steak seasoning and Kosher flake salt. The Weber has very little salt.
Some of the best steaks I’ve had all grilling season, and I’ve got money left over to have some good drinks and spirits afterwards.
Loved the reaction to a reaction, and all the info during it. After watching all these videos, I believe my basic steak grilling is as good as Guga and others. 135 medium rare, and simple seasoning. Now if I could only make some sides like all you chefs.
      Peace Brian et al

you don't even have to saran wrap it... just throw the potatoes in there with the corn, husk intact, and give it a rip .. of course you got to open it and check because time's very on potatoes and corn and it's quite obvious... but yeah corn cooked in the husk in a microwave is legit or on the grill..still in the husk of course... it's almost like the husk seals in that freshness and flavor while cooking.

A microwave is a good method for cooking a potato since all it's doing is steaming the potato. A microwave emits of a frequency that perfectly aligns with water molecules to make them vibrate faster. It's great for heating up liquids, but it's also great for potatoes, since those water molecules have nowhere to go if the skin is still on, hence it just steams the potato. The reason why you don't cook, say, a steak in a microwave is because it basically has a similar effect to boiling it in water. It's going to be very tough and very grey.

He bought his beef from HEB and I can tell from the packaging. HEB as of right now has beef ranging from $4.99 a lb at cheapest up to $39lb on the shelves. The later is usually American Wagyu beef cuts. The average Prime cut of meat is like $13 per pound. Choice is about $9 on average and Select is about $6 on average a pound. Of course ground beef is typically cheaper than that. The problem is I can easily eat a pound of meat (pre-cooked) in any given meal. So if I made a steak for every meal I would probably be broke based on what I consider enough for a meal.

Speaking of cholesterol, I had a t-bone steak previously, then a rib eye in the same restaurant. I can literally see the solidified grease that came from the t-bone a few minutes after it cooled down. That was unappetizing. Good thing it didn’t happen to the rib eye that came in after I was done with the t-bone.
It must have been the bone that helped cool the t-bone which resulted to that scenario.

Gotta correct you on your math, brother. Listen closely. “Even if it’s a pound of steaks, $7 a pound…” why divide by 16oz. to figure out the price per pound?
16oz is the same as 1 pound.
And look how thin those steaks are. A pound is being generous. A pound and a half? Not a chance. I’m gonna guess those are about 3oz per steak.
$7 per pound is $7 per 16oz. No dividing necessary!

    • @oienu

totally agree, I cook them there when I just want one, if I go to cook 2kg maybe in the steamer. For the microwave, poke the potato is a safety thing, the skin can retain the vapor inside and since the water heat more fast can explode, poke the skin help to relive presure inside.

    • @ARM0RP0WER

that is what the holes are for. if you trap steam in a closed off area pressure will build and either the potato goes boom or the moment you puncture the skin you get hit by almost super heated steam. which is the same reason you dont want to microwave a cup of water because yes it will get hot but it would also trap super heated steam under the surface tension so the moment you break it its just a volcano of pain. many people have gotten hurt from it

Reasoning for not wanting to upg is also solid, if you upg you can't go back but also he does not wish to have more cooking time or cleaning to do. I know this video is mainly about cooking steak, but I've got to give props to Brian's mom on cooking corn in the microwave. I used to grow a couple of varieties of sweet corn, and of course the absolute best way to eat it is raw, straight off the stalk, still standing in the garden - but not many of us can do that. To me, second best is to wrap it in a bit of cling film, nuke it about 90 seconds, then give it a squeeze of lime. As the corn gets older and the sugars start converting to starch, it's time to pull out the grill and get creative. Many will disagree, but to me the worst way to cook corn is to boil it.

It's curious that people are applauding that he's a multi-millionaire but is then not spending it on his lifestyle. At which point, what is he doing with that wealth? Is he giving it all to charitable causes? Or is he just hoarding it? Because if it's the latter, that's actually pretty awful since it means that money is more-or-less leaving the economy. We, rightly, complain about billionaires hoarding their wealth, so why would it be any different here?
There's also a moral argument that in this lifestyle, he's actually taking stuff that actual poor people need. If he takes the last cheap flat steak, then it means another family who might need it and can't buy any alternatives due to their budget will have to go hungry. Pretty rubbish behaviour!

Someone who can cook actually recreated his steak as best as he could, and it ended up being pretty tasty beef jerky. While not a good steak, it's how he likes it and for the most part as far as I can tell, the guy enjoys having a simple life. And based on other videos I've seen of the guy, it seems like he thinks of things like gluttony as a slippery slope into worsening your life down the line. If he's already plenty happy.
Also reminds me of a few statements regarding millionaires. Most functional millionaires live below their means, because they're saving up their money. While those who splurge tend to remain in a spiral of debt. Usually you wouldn't expect someone who looks ordinary to be a millionaire, but since they're investing in their future self rather than their current self, it's actually not much of a surprise.

A Little more respect towards gamers please. Many of the gamers on youtube and twitch are much more than the "basement dwellers" the non gamers think. The gaming community has come a long long way. They are not only gamers, they tend to be the gamer voice when the industry tries to fck them over with Asmongold having been very focal when it comes to predatory practices like microtransactions. Many of the big names in the gaming community will use their platform for charity purposes. e.g Jacksepticeyem, PewDiePie or the Gaming Theorists who generate millions every year for causes like St Jude Childrens Hospital. Putting 12 year olds and gamers in one sentence is highly disrespectful and frankly a bit dishonest. I like your content but please don't throw around stereotypes that are outdated and very much untrue. Don't judge a book by it's cover. Laugh about his cooking, don''t judge him because he is a gamer.
fyi I don't even follow Asmongold but I have been in the gaming community literally since PONG was released. I have seen the progress they have made over the decades.
