Steve Martin said that comic acting is much harder than dramatic acting and made the point of how many truly great comic actors do you compared to dramatic ones? So when comedians do switch to drama, the results are often amazing.

Carmichael People have said the same about Robin Williams, Peter Sellers, Tom Hanks, Bill Murray, Steve Carell, Jim Carrey, hell even Adam Sandler, and I think their dramatic work silenced a lot of doubters real quick. Not saying that will happen here, but there is precedent for actors known for comedy nailing dramatic roles.

I usually don't watch series, but when I found out it's only 6 episodes i tried. Sacha nailed it. It's one of best things I've seen in a few last years. Great story, great pictures and really interesting characters. Even if you don't like criminal-action kind of movies, this one would probably interest you because of the story and main character. Must to see.

I couldn't bring myself to watch episode 6 because even though I know Eli Cohen's story, I still hoped he would have stopped before he was caught and gone home to Nadia. It also didn't help that Sacha Cohen is the actor who plays Eli --- hard to see him suffering too --- and oh, he did such a good job by making us like Eli. Oh man..... My husband watched episode 6 all by himself and then told that he felt really bad to see Eli's end. Great series.

Watch Thunderfoot’s videos on it if you have a couple hours to spare. One big example is how they claim that the blast from Chernobyl would reach Minsk if the core burnt through the floor and hit the water. Not even the Tsar Bomba if dropped on Chernobyl or even Kiev would do more than break windows in Minsk.

Windowpanes could be broken up to 700-900km away, but that doesn't mean shit about them being affected by the blast, it was just that loud and shocking.
Now that we know the Tsar Bomba could only physically harm anything within a 100km radius, and that the Chernobyl Meltdown would've been 1/10th as powerful at most, let's give a VERY generous estimate of 20km third degree burns and a 10km "complete destruction" zone. Chernobyl is in the north of Ukraine, 135km by road from Kyiv. Therefore, Kyiv would be all but unaffected by a Chernobyl meltdown. Now let's look at Minsk, the proposed "destroyed city" that would result from Chernobyl, signifying how absolutely fuckhuge this explosion would be. Minsk is 443 kilometers from Chernobyl by road. Therefore, if an explosion is already not reaching Kyiv 135km away, no way in hell the blast is magically teleporting 4x the distance in the opposite direction.
There were parts of Chernobyl that were accurate, but the incident was massively overblown and plain false statements were made during the scientific dialogue.

Please don't make fun of this, it's a very serious real story with quite a tragic ending. Eli Cohen was an Israeli hero who was captured, tortured and executed in Syria. His family never even got his body to bury, to this day.
After watching this series, i went and watched an interview with Amin Al Hafez in Aljazera channel in 2005. He said “ many people tried to stop Eli’s execution, but I refused because Eli was an Arab in the first place and he betrayed his own nation” . However, he said “ any Arab ruler is more dangerous than Eli Cohen”.

Sacha is actually one of the best actors I've ever seen. He is Daniel Day Lewis level, no joke.
This series is an absolute masterclass. I don't think it got the appreciation it should have got. The entire script, the cinematography, the emotions shown, and ofcourse the way Sacha Baron Cohen played this role, it is absolute class. Top on my list of my favourite series followed by 'Better Call Saul'. A tragic, intense series which will not let you leave your screen till you complete it. You may think many of the guys here giving 10/10 in the comments is a bit exaggerated. But trust me, IT IS NOT. Can't think of a single reason why this show deserves any less than a 10.
I'm excited to see how SBC will do in a more serious role.

In the book "Mossad" there is a chapter dedicated to Elie Cohen. Its mentioned there that the reason for Elie's capture was carelessness of the superiors. He was asked to transmit his reports two times a day DAILY, and also to transmit the debates from Syrian Parliament which were not needed. These things put him into great risks and sadly and unfortunately he was caught.
There are many like him who sacrificed their lives working for Mossad. "Mossad" is a great book to read.

I start to watch this show “The Spy” @8:00 am today, is very intense, I can’t STOP watching this TV series , is 3:10 pm and I’m in the last episode.
Amazing job with Sacha Baron Cohen, shows his best side as an actor in how he can be funny & silly but also he can be another completely different character than what he done in the past, GREAT, GREAT & GREAT FILM , thank you for doing such a wonderful job 👍🎥 🙏🏼🙇🏻♀️

Very good show. Noah Emmerich who played a FBI agent in 'The Americans' played the person who recruited Eli Cohen . He felt that he had to take care of Cohen family while Cohen was abroad given that he had lost a recruit before and feared that he would lose Cohen as well.
In 'The Americans' Emmerich attempted to track down two Russian spies living the US. He didn't even realize that they were not only his neighbors but his best friends as well.

I read the book about eli cohen when i was junior high school. Aftet I canceled for vacation due to bronchitis my father borrow a lot of books from library for me. Its was brilliant, couldnt believe its true story. Awesome
